What's the "best" own goal you've ever seen Brentford score ?

My mind goes back many years and I recall Mel Scott scoring in his own net with a diving header from fully 25 yards which flew into the top corner of the Ealing Road net. I think the keeper at the time was Chic Brodie (not sure about that) - whoever he was, he had no chance.

Alan Hawley about 1968 v Bradford City, Gordon Phillips came out to gather a Back Pass and Hawley lobbed him! Alan Nelmes was famous for Own Goals and scored a classic header from the edge of the Penalty Box in his Testimonial v Chelsea. We lost 8-2 Lee Frost scored a Hatrick for Chelsea. I was really excited when we signed him, what a waste of space he was :sad:

Tamer Fernandes managing to kick the ball back into his own net from a goal kick/free-kick in a friendly against Wimbledon, but the goal wasn't allowed as the ball hadn't gone back into play or something... I didn't dream it did I? :confused:

Apparently so but I don't remember it happening or how it was possible to do! .:D

Remember that. Pretty sure it wasnt allowed because the ref didn't see it.:D He was running back to the halfway line when tamer tried to take the goal kick and planted it in the back of the net. He quickly grabbed it and threw it out. Remember some of the wimbledon players protesting with the ref, as I was picking myself up off the floor from pissing myself with laughter.:wave:

It was in an awful 5-0 home defeat in 1966 against Bristol Rovers (remember Alfie Biggs who scored a hat trick). John Moynihan wrote a chapter about the game in his wonderful Soccer Syndrome book and described it as an owngoal "of appalling violence" !!

In the early 80's, two seasons running a Bees player scored at both ends in the fixture at Walsall. Mark Hill did it in 1980/81 and Pat Kruse (I believe) the following year!!

Hill's effort past keeper Paul MCullough was quite spectacular and is featured on the "Bees on the Box" video.

I can remember Ray Drinkwater doing that in goal for QPR once, direct from a corner, when we played them at Loftus Road in the old 3rd Division South. It was the only goal of the game. (In those days I think it was a "friendly" rivalry)

Most spectacular - and one of the most depressing in the circumstances was Stewart Houston in the FA Cup at Plymouth in the early 70s (73, I think). We'd gone 1-0 down to a side from a higher divsion, had Dave Metchick sent off but managed to equalise. Houston then put it over his own keeper from around 35 yards... I can't remember if it was an over-hit back-pass or a mis-hit interception, but remember it looked spectacular

Best one was at Gunnersbury ....from the halfway line.....Clive Lewry in goal never even saw it..crashed off the bar into the net before he had time to move....rofl rofl

it would/should have been a corner..... ball not going out of the area.....

also can't score an OG from your own free-kick

not bees but Jamie Pollock's own goal for Man City is hilarious as was the Chester player who kicked the ball into his own face and in it went. rofl If anyone could link up either i would be very happy.

Billy Barr for us when he was playing for Carlisle.

We were at GP playing cr*p and Carlisle went 1-0 ahead.

From the ko the ball went straight to Billy Barr, who was between the penalty area and the touchline.

Billy Boy went to curl it back to his keeper but actually curled the ball into the far top corner of the Ealing Road goal.

Game ended 1-1!

If it's the one I'm thinking of, about 10 years ago (and it sounds like it though I couldn't remember the player's name), I think he was trying to hook it back upfield over his own head, but got a toe-end on it and lobbed the keeper

If we are talking Non Brentford how about Keith Wellers for Leicester a few years back, out on the wing and curled it in over his own keeper. Classic shown many times on MOTD and other programmes.

Terry Evans away at Bolton on a Tuesday night played a long ball from their keeper with one touch back to Benstead who was rushing to the edge of the box to collect. Perfectly slotted into the bottom corner, final result 1-0. That's how I remember it anyway. :(

Can anybody help on this please? I was but a boy, but I am sure it was a header from a corner straight into his own net.

Both teams were up there and I was gutted.:(
