Paddock?

When did the Paddock become known as the Paddock. When I first started going in the mid-70s I always new it as the Enclosure I think? To me the Paddock always reminded me of growing up with mates who banged on about it at QPR? Please enlighten me.

Used to call it the Braemar terrace.

On the old fixture posters in the 70's it was called The Enclosure, and you were charged 10p extra to go in there.

Many interesting encounters with the oppo fans in the enclosure during the 80's

A couple of Bristol Rovers were in there giving it the biggie to Bees fans in the Oak, not realising you could walk round the back and get in there.

:box: lol

You used to have to pay extra to go into Braemar seats. Don't recall paying more to stand in the enclosure

Paddock?

I can remember there being a turnstile on the corner of Ealing Road and Braemar near the floodlight pylon for transfers.

Correct. There was a bloke who used to stand there collecting 10p from anyone who wanted to transfer from the Royal Oak to The Enclosure. When I first started going, my uncle and I used to sit up in the Braemar stand, where we could see him. One of the guys who used to sit with us always entered the ground via the Royal Oak and transferred and every game he would pretend no to see the bloke collecting the 10p's and walk straight past, only for the bloke to shout at him to come back, which he duly did. It was his bit if fun and the bloke never cottoned on.

There was certainly a small premium charged to watch from the Enclosure. Wasn't quite sure why? Fewer pillars to impede your view perhaps?

Don't remember that, although I was mainly in Royal Oak end kicking up the soot/dirt.

You sure that wasn't a money earning scam instigated by one of our posters on here?

Well, but I would have been around 11/12 at the time and the bloke was "old" (so probably in his 40's or 50's) and it was in the late 70's, so that would narrow it down.

Was stood in front of the away seats, that day. Seemed to be a lot going on, but I was just an innocent youth more concerned with the football. :hat:

Behind the stand after the game, I witnessed a traffic cone flying up toward some City fans leaving the seats and it caught one of them full in the face. Pretty sure they all retreated back to the safety of the seats. :)

'Kin 'ell. I thought seeing a half-eaten burger sliding down stimson's cheek was as good as it got.

When w£bb walked the gauntlet of hate. Always the place to be for the 'big nights' is the paddock.

The whole ground was on him that night .

Today today he'd get a round of applause

Noi mention of 'that' Sheffield United game, and the paddock, where Doug Allder reaconed he had help from fans in there.
