I agree about the tourists who were in evidence on Saturday and clearly didn't know if they were at a football game or a cocktail party. But why assume every loyal long-term Bees supporter wants to join in with some of the mindless vocal exercises that go on at a game? Hey Jude, yes for sure... stand up if you hate Fulham, no thanks.

And it was interesting to be in the home end on Saturday and see how quickly the Saints "supporters" turned on their own players. And don't tell me that doesn't happen at GP because I've seen it. To me loyalty and REAL support, through the bad times as well as the good, is far more valuable than any number of out-of-tune songs.

Good post JimP...some drunken idiot a couple of rows in front of us spent more time telling us to effing sing "for the boys" and trading insults with Soton fans than he did watching the game...reckon he probably couldn't remember a thing about it at the end...I,like many others,have watched BFC since the 1950's and have travelled all over the country and abroad watching our beloved Bees and don't need to be told what to do by some drunken idiot who thinks it's macho to wind up all and sundry....while the game seems to be passing him by !!!..I shout and get involved as much as the next person...but just because I don't sing (cos I can't) doesn't make me any less of a supporter. :nono:

I am a proud owner of 1 year old football boots though, as I needed them for the FA coaching badge last year, hoping for another badge this year however the way its going Blue Peter looks favourite lol

Interesting thread.

Surely the whole point of being a fan is to be as fanatical as possible, ie passionate and loud.

If you accept that fans can influence or turn games (I certainly believe they can and so did our subs on Saturday who kept imploring us to sing louder, more etc) then surely you have to sing as much as possible?

However, perhaps for a real definition of fanaticism we should be looking to the 100 odd who turned out last night at Hartlepool..and no I wasn´t one of them.

Apologies one and all....just that China Bee and myself realised that we knew one another and played football together for many years along with other Bees fans....so the GPG is better than Friends Reunited.....it doesn't cost anything :D :D :D :D

We are all a bit cliquey in our "don't let fairweathers in for big games" stance yet we will welcome you for Tuesday night cold and boring league games. :D
When you have served your time please attempt to join in the cream tasting and if you quote obscure games attended then maybe we shall listen. lol
I'm not excluding myself from these feelings but lets hope we have encouraged some more people to turn up at GP in the future and not upset too many who already do.

For the information of ISB four of us with more than 3,000 attendances at matches at Griffin Park and around the country (including Luton in the 3rd round and Hartlepool in the 4th round, Liverpool in 1989, Cardiff and Hull in 1971)) between us sat in the back row but one at Southampton. We do not need to take lessons in support from people more intent on baiting the opposing fans than watching the game.

Furthermore we will not be told by such people to "stand up if you love Brentford". Such demands sounded authoritarian, pathetic and juvenile at the Play-Off Final in 2002 and they sound the same today.

We do in fact smile when the song is "Brentford 'til I die". You see, our father and grand-father cycled to every one of the 21 winning games in the 1029-30 Season. He died in 1973 but his spirit lives on in us! There aren't dead Bees - only those not able to be there in person. My Dad, my Uncle Les, my Uncle Jack,my Uncle Alec, my Uncle Tom.....Bernie Watson...... and so on.

One of the reasons I originally posted this topic up, was because I remember seeing the substitutes trying to gee up our fans, but in truth, they didn't get the response they wanted.
So many fans around me just didn't respond, and it's very well known that a good vocal support encourages the lads to play that bit harder. It gets their adrenaline flowing.
I don't mean to say that fans MUST sing all the time, but there are certain moments when it's really needed, and it would help the players no end if there was this wall of noise, encouraging them to win. Instead, I saw people scream at each other to sit down, get into arguments, or people just turning round and telling fellow Bees to stop shouting in their ear-'oles. That, more than anything, confuses me the most.
The problem is that for large away games where seating is allocated, you could be sat next to anyone. At most games, you just tend to go towards areas of the stand where singers are. However, for such big games like Southampton, couldn't we all pull together and sing the lads onto victory?

Didn't the Club allocate certain sections at the LDV Final as 'singing sections' ???

However, the organisation at the top at BFC is too amateurish to think of things like that these days ! :rolleyes:

I think you're mistaken. It was signing sections so Bees fans could communicate between each other without making any noise and disturbing all those Stokies signing Tom Jones songs. :rolleyes:

:nono: Bad Simon C. Bee H was talking about the LDV final when we played Port Vale rather than the playoff final. I know both sets of fans are Stokies but I'm pretty sure Vale don't sing any Tom Jones songs. The singing section at the LDV final was bloody quiet though.

In the spirit of self-improvement, why don't we issue a Bees Chant Book? We could have a nice wooden thing to rest it on, like in church!! Actually, is there somewhere where we can access all the chants? I have a mate who was a Wimbledon fan who I am trying to convince by bringing him down to GP as often as I can. Would be good to issue him with a list of Bees' songs.
