Patterson Interview

Patterson Interview

You are right, but thats not the point is it. If KD had been up front and said it is a 3 month probationary/trial period that will lead to a 2 year contract if we stay up, then we would have had no applications. We would have saved ourselves 5 weeks of a rediculous song and dance with the sudden introduction of pointless second interviews and fitz would have been appointed immediately.

Whole thing stinks to me!

...its more likely that Greg Dyke and Keith Dickens changed the rules after the Gang or Four had made their recommendation. Quite what gives either two this right is anyones guess...Dickens admits to knowing **** all about football and well Greg...well Greg thought Leroy was the answer to our prayers...

Patterson Interview

Sorry I think this is good business by the Board.

Many eminent posters have come on the GPG and stated how the club should not give risky long term contracts to unproven staff ( players and managment) as we simply cannot afford to and it seems the Board have followed that line in this case.

Patterson is an unproven manager and if he was not prepared to take the chance offered that's up to him, he does not have the track record of a Parkinson or a Bassett so why should we guarantee his income for the next two and half years whether he succeeds or not, he could be as hopeless as LR or wally was at being manager for all we know?

If Fitz is prepared to take that risk then good for him and long may he reign...

Patterson Interview

...Patterson was someone who Greg Dyke turned down a few months ago...who came through this round of interviews as the strongest candidate...yet when it comes to Greg and/or Keith discussing terms....suddenly falls out of favour....

If Greg Dyke wants to use us as his play thing...let him ****ing well pay for it...otherwise he can **** off...

Patterson Interview

And how many times do you think we do this process then Pete?

Who in their right mind would ever apply for a managers job at BFC after they hear about this absolute shambolic process?

I`m not disagreeing that this is an embarrassing conclusion to the saga Greenholme, but in our financial state am against offering long-term contracts to rookie managers who may be the next Wenger but equally could be a disaster.
How much cash has BFC spunked on compo and pay-offs etc in recent years? Far too much...

perhaps we need to ask one of the other 3 from the gang of four......

Ditto !

...or someone on the BU Board...the truth will out...it always does at BFC....you'd think someone as 'savy' as Greg Dyke would know that....

Then don't give it the Billy Bollox about 'proper selection criteria' 'ticking boxes etc' and taking two weeks to make a decision on what they could have done a fortnight ago...

Oi BC!!! Stop upsetting our board please.
They have enough to worry about in deciding my punishment!
You are doing my leniency possibilities no good at all!;)

Patterson Interview

There are a number of inaccuracies in the journalists report...that to edit what suits smacks of cherry picking

Patterson Interview

Agreed Nick, none of that criteria crap should have ever been publicised IMHO - Bill Shankly would have struggled to land the post.

A simple "we`ll endeavour to get the best man available....." would have done:wave:

...are they we are...back to Dickens comments on the Chelsea saga earlier in the season....

Patterson Interview

Are we saying that the selection committee were recommending a long contract for an untried manager? That sounds like a big risk to me. KD is responsible for the budget - why should he endorse such a risk. If Patterson didn't back himself to turn the team around, perhaps he was the wrong person.

Patterson Interview

Spider actaully did everyone a favour. He stood up and delivered his info, there are 50 bullsh!t artists on here to every Spider and now he is being shat on for keeping fellow fans up to date.

My questions aren't for Spider but are for KD as to why it all went belly up.
For example if Fitz hadn't swallowed his pride and taken the job we could have been doing this for a month and still had no manager at the end.

I dunno Les, but any long term contract offered by BFC would need a clause in it so we would only have to pay £x if it goes tits up instead of the whole contract.
Thats how it worked with LR i believe, although its obviously money we aint got but theres also the assistant manager`s dosh to cough up as well.

However if the Oxford Mail is right and it was a 3 month trial then nobody in their right mind would leave a secure position for an insecure job, even if its higher up the ladder and more money.

Fitz was always going to take it I think. Maybe we're lucky he didn't raise the same objections as Patterson?

Patterson Interview

I'd have perferred Patterson to Fitz if I'm honest. Even with that ginger ****** from The Bush in tow.

I firmly believe that the deadwood off the playing field, like Griffin, need to be removed for this Club to start to moving forward again.

I simply find it a little strange that Patterson was offered the job....and then...we have Fitz as manager...Dickens has already proved to be untrustworthy once this season in relation to his Chelsea poster comments...and well Dyke....he is not exactly known for admitting he is human...if the final talks were down to those two.....
Well maybe little white ones......When we thought it was Patterson and the ginger one you were whinging and your mates had returned their season tickets...now you say you'd have preferred that partnership to Fitz?

I've always said I preferred Patterson  Wasnt happy with Waddock and mates did say they didnt want the ex-Rangers man anywhere near BFC. In fact only found out about Waddock when it was leaked on here.

With Fitz staying...the status quo remains...and that keeps the likes of John Griffin and his pension fund in tact...seriously bad news for BFC....

So how did you find out about Patterson? :fishing:

Right!!!:box:

It would appear that I have upset the hierarchy at GP for relating news regarding a managerial appointment. It was only my intention to update BFC supporters.

I didn't do it to boost my ego as has been suggested.
I didn't do it to scupper any appointment which has been suggested.
I didn't do it to deliberately annoy the board of Brentford Football Club.

I resent certain personal messages that I have received on here blaming me for the about turn in the appointment.

For those of you who think I was wrong fair enough. But I was only acting in the interest of the GPG membership.

I am big enough to apologise to Brentford Football Club and, through this medium, I do so unreservedly.

I hope this is sufficient to enable the club, and its board to go forward and avoid relegation (after all there are more pressing matters than this issue).

However....

If there are to be further repercussions then I suggest that BFC go and **** themselves!

As a supporter, I have put up with, mostly, 32 years of mismanagement and dross at BFC and if you think I am going to be made the scapegoat for another round of quality leadership then you are very much mistaken!
Your move BFC!

Patterson Interview

So how did you find out about Patterson? :fishing:

...from the GPG and the fact he was interviewed during the summer...was highly thought of by at least one senior figure at GP and in certain football circles...although not those connected to Barry Fry or John Griffin...that in itself spoke volumes to me....some of the names on here were crazy....have an associate down the boozer who is mates with Bassett for instance and is quite invovled with football....its a small world....

Patterson Interview

I don't know what happened or why it was allowed to descend into typical Brentford style farce but would like to understand.....

I can only assume that given the individuals on the panel (except KD) they would have made sure that they knew what deal the board were prepared to offer, no?

Are people suggesting that Patterson was offered a 2.5 year deal initially and then the MD and GD changed it? If so no wonder the bloke didn't sign up.

If he was made aware that the initial deal was short term and reviewable then he only has himself to blame if he thinks that he could bully GD into a longer deal.

All I'm saying is it would be nice to know which was it?

Not arguing the second point BC, peace and goodwill and all that, let's just hope our fortunes change

Patterson Interview

Chris

I hope you dont think I was referring to you when I was talking about egos..

Patterson Interview

Well said Spider, how could posting what you did disrupt the negotiations.

I hope the punishment is not too bad, I had heard (although only a rumour and not official:D ) that they were going to force you to watch every Brentford game for the rest of this season. I am sure you can appeal.

Have a good Christmas:wave:

Patterson Interview

all rather mickey mouse.

i would have liked us to have bought in an experienced manager - a bassett or a hollins. but if it is to be a cheap option, a youth team manager getting his first break, fitz gets my vote.

it is all so sad that our once well run little club seems to be in a complete mess and melt-down off the field as well as on.

anyone remember the ceo who went to derby? he wouldn't have conducted things in this dreadful way. but you get what you pay for.

Keith Loring, very smart guy, anyone know what he's doing these days?

Patterson Interview

I have to assume all the people criticising the MD, the Chairman and the board and so on are all highly successful business people with a track record of success behind them in running multi million pound businesses in a difficult market on very tight budgets??:fishing:
What it boils down to is that this is a vitally important appointment. The future of our club is on the line here. As nice a guy as Fitz may be, why the **** would you take a chance like this? Go for tried and trusted experience, someone who's been in the trenches like Bassett. Lets hope and pary that they are right

Patterson Interview

You are correct.
Think he'll come back to BFC, especially given the abuse he got from the terraces?

I thought he did a good job down here

Hey what is Royce doing nowadays?

Patterson Interview

Very dodgy appointment, but Patterson had no experience and was even more of a gamble than Fitz.

Seems like we offered him a 3 month notice period. Sensible move IMHO but Patterson objected to it so laters....

Good luck Fitz.

:imwith:

Not happy at all with the way this has unfolded. Fitz has the job and good luck to him, he'll get most peoples support and deservedly so. However, it doesn't look as though he was the candidate of choice for those supposedly doing the selection process.

The whole process has ended up being a complete waste of time. At least, Patterson with his guarded comments hasn't burnt his bridges if we have to look again if we go another 10 games without a win.

farcical.

Patterson Interview

Im so glad this has come out in the open - Thanks Banana.

This stinks of supporters giving up two weeks of their time, sifting through applicants, interviewing till the midnight hour (Fact) and then preparing second interviews...coming up with their 'wish' manager and finding out that the MD and Dyke throw it out at the final hour?

Bet that makes Fitz really happy to see that 'Dykes comments' about him has finally come out in the public domain!

You seriously couldn't make it up..

On record, I have NO problem with Fitz and wish him all the best and ofcourse I want him to suceed in keeping Brentford in the first division.

What I cannot understand is that Fitz is only on a 'short term' contract so if we go down, the whole process starts again?

Do mea favour though and please do not ask Patterson to apply for the third time, you have already made our club look like the laughing stock of the Country with this debacle..

Good on Patterson for revealing his story - I hope Brentford FC are embarrassed.

I agree fully

Obviously I'm worried that we will be relegated, as I've posted before if Fitzgerald saves us he'll have done fantastically

Longer term thanks to this shambles will anyone half decent want to apply for us in the future?

Patterson Interview

From the Oxford Mail Jon Murray

An experienced striker, Fitzgerald was on loan at Oxford last season. He made two league appearances, scoring once, in the 3-2 home defeat by Grimsby.

He had also scored against Oxford United, for Brentford, a month earlier, in the Football League Trophy first-round tie at Griffin Park, which finished 1-1, with the U's winning 4-3 on penalties.

It astonishes me how many so called journalists keep getting this wrong!
Can someone in the know please e=mail this fool and tell him of his error?
Piss poor journalism!

Patterson Interview

Cause he speaks his mind and doesn't take any crap from anyone

.....and because he had his head up Martin Lange's arse for just about the whole time the two worked together. Close relationship between Chairman and CEO/MD or whatever we called him as it is now. I would have thought that our current incumbents are much more proffessional than Loring/Lange were. I might of course be biased in that for my own personal reasons! lol
On a second note can we all get off Spiderbee's back and simply ask him who his source is? The leak whether directly or indirectly presumably came from one of the gang of four as who else would know?
I suspect that the source is well known by many on here and that for reasons unknown, those that know dont want to post his name!

"Aye aye sir" to the first and :nono: to the second.

Many of us know from where his information comes and also the other news that was leaking out last week from another famous poster.

I very much doubt that Brentford Football Club would wish to track this back to source........

Can you and GB explain or will it be another I know something thread that you so detest and wish not to be associated with as your posts are only in the best interests of Brentford fans.

FFS name and shame man! dont piss about with these posts. This is what we all detest! If Spiderbee wants the club and us mere mortals off his case (And I am not on it as I did not read his post with the news I got it later from Lutonbee post) then BU needs to be seen to making people responsible and accountable for their actions. BU own 60% of BFC so they need to be seen to represent all their members, and those like me who they are trying to persuade to join, by bringing this out in the open otherwise people will naturally assume that
the gang of four have told someone for the right reasons and that the news has been leaked from that point on. FM we dont have a NOTW editor outside the boardroom evesdropping do we? or phone lines tapped?
If those four made the Patterson decision all roads will eventually lead back to one of them. Now it might be that they can then deflect it on to a fact like the person they told was allowed to know which narrows the field down even further and eventually we will ALL know who blabbed! Not that it will make a blind bit of difference of course but it will put an end to this little discussion!

I didn't understand your post.

You asked everyone to get off Spider Bee's back (I agreed) and then you stir the pot by asking him to name his source (with which I did not).....to do so would I put to you gently have resulted in erm........everyone getting on Spider Bees back again.

I post for my own recreation. I find the GPG a good way of relaxing to be honest and I would miss it if it disappeared. I am always more interested in the "off the field" stuff rather than who should be playing in midfield and I think my posts generally reflect that. I don't believe that I have ever said that my posts are "only in the best interests of Brentford fans" (although you may search and give me the lie on that one........please do and I'll correct it)......what I believe that I said was that I try to post items on issues that I believe may interest Brentford fans which is another thing altogether.

Patterson Interview

Keith Loring, very smart guy, anyone know what he's doing these days?

Might as well see if Dennis Piggot is still alive.

Personally I feel it was Loring who drove the split between the club and the supporters, in terms of trust, from which we still seem to suffer from today.

Once told me I was exactly the type of supporter Brentford didnt need. A bizarre statement for many reasons but particualrly as it was at a reserve team match.

In some ways I wish I had taken up his advice and saved myself the several thousands of pounds I have spent on Brentofrd since then.

Patterson Interview

Personally thought Loring was a **** and wouldnt want to see him back.

surely someone told spiderbee? that is what I meant.
I do not know him nor wish to get on his back in fact the opposite. I dont want a witch hunt either it serves no purpose just accountability.
"Naughty girl/boy dont do it again or you will find yourself on a written warning" or worse if it is required.

You are right to correct me on my post about what you said and I accept yours is the correct version.

Now that's sorted! Can you tell us everything that it is you know about the club as it happens in future in one long detailed post? We are definately as Bees fans interested as to what goes on behind the scenes but we dont like being teased about snippets of info known to a few rather than the masses!

i hope this request is fully clear and easy to understand and apologise to any grammarians out there who would hope to pick me up on spelling and grammar.
Just going out to get Mrs ROB's present now so back at 4pm when shops close!

Patterson Interview

what if Spiderbee's source had a source. Would we have to start up a new thread asking for this new source to be named and would we believe either Spiderbee or the source wittout some written prove in a court of law that this was in fact the real source and everything they said was true. And then what if the judge was corrupt, do we go to the European courts.... its all too much for me, i'm off for Xmas....
