Manager of Leyton Orient (4 points from their 5 games, to our 3) after their defeat to Cheltenham:

"I pick the team so I take the responsibilty".

What an idiot. Doesn't he realise its all bad luck/referees/lack of a target man/the fans etc.

Paul Brush

Exactly,

Wouldn't it be nice just once for a change to hear Wally say something like:

"What goes on behind the scenes at the club can't affect what I am doing. It is up to me to produce results on the pitch - nothing else."

Instead we get. "The important part about my job is to keep the club alive.".

That is not your job Downes, that is the job of the Board of Directors etc. Your job is to produce results.

Of course, indirectly your abject failure to do your own job properly will be the biggest contributory factor into the death of the club, as we watch crowds fall to unsustainable levels while the team is rooted in a relegation place.

We are careering head long into administration here. A change of direction is needed before it is too late.

Was he talking about the game,or the fact that the M40 was shut and most of us had a sh*t journey home??

Paul Brush

this is on Ceefax p395

"we worked hard. we didn't get the luck and there are games that turn that way for you. Some you get and some you don't... I've got no complaints"

well i have some complaints :mad1:

Paul Brush

The bad luck was he couldn't find his ace up his sleeve for the poker game on the trip up.

Paul Brush

i'd like to point out that this is EXACTLY the sort of attitude that will get us relegated

but fortuantely some Wally-sympathiser will tell us that it's not his fault really...

Paul Brush

It's not his fault when the team lose, but it's his fault when the team are losing and aren't improving. It's his fault if we don't start to get results now.

Have you noticed that Tranmere have only won one game to date!..If we had had 11 players on that pitch that day it might now read ...Tranmere.W 0

We were unlucky that day, I blame Peter Beadle for that, although perhaps Wally was wrong not to change things earlier than he did. Had we had 11 men on the pitch we could have won that. Although if Tranmere screw up at least we gave them false hope, which is just as fun as crushing hope.
