Not entirely sure how to take that. Merson has deep rooted problems .. I guess you need to try and help yourself, in some way.
Someone could put the same type of thing together about Gascoigne, would we find that amusing ?

Yes, true I suppose you can say fair play to Harry for not making anything of it and his understanding of Mers's real problems at the time.

It's interesting...he obviously had those problems, and still does...but that paints the picture of the time in his life where he was probably in denial about the control it had. If you're willing to use it as an excuse for personal gain (to blag a holiday) you're not taking it as serious as you need to...

But that is an interesting story, maybe a holiday was as good for him at the time as anything else. The thing is if Merse had just asked if it was ok to have a holiday he probably would have said yes...

That story and his addiction has been well documented. Not sure why you are dragging that up now. Seen a few programs where he speaks openly and humbly about his addiction. I hope he gains the strength to see him through.

Don’t get me started on gambling sponsorship in sport!

Dragging it up? He spoke about it on a podcast a few days ago, that’s where the clip is from.

In which case I apologise. Was being overly defensive of a fellow addict.

He’s local and has played football and golf with younger lads from Whitton area and never heard anything but positive feedback about what a genuine, grounded, humble lad he is.

He was at the recent football match about 4 weeks ago Chertsey v Hanworth Villa. As I believe his son was playing for Villa. Paul was asked by several parents with young children in the crowd for selfies and autographs etc and was very accommodating and polite, despite trying to watch the game.

Know Paul Merson and his family very well.
Always been a great son and brother.
First thing he did when he started earning good money at Arsenal was to buy his sister a new home in that new-build settlement in Yeading off The Parkway that was built some 30/35 years back - near that Tesco Superstore
My father owns a building firm and he done a few improvements at her house. She was getting married and I believe Paul bought her a house as a wedding gift.
His mum is ace too.
She worked as a secretary up the road in Northolt for my father's business partner who owned a letting agency. No air's n graces when Paul was flying at Arsenal.
It's such a shame that Paul hasn't been able to shake off his demons.
