Paul Simpson (Simmo)

A lot of fans have been asking about Simmo. He hasn't been at the Brentford games recently. He has had / has some health issues.
Everyone knows Simmo. Even if you havn't spoken to him in person, he was a regular 'face' at the games, home and away and he's been going since Doomsday !
He used to be in the Paddock at Griffin Park and then the South Stand at the GTECH.
Simmo in my book is an absolute legend. Lovely bloke and always good for a chat at the games.
He will be going on Friday and the Chelsea game at home. The club have given him a private box in the South Stand and good on them, for arranging that. In with the prawn sandwich brigade. He so deserves it.
When I get explicit detail on where exactly in the South Stand, he will be situated, I'll try and add an update on this thread.
Catch him whilst you can and say hello to him please.
I truly hope we and the team put on a great performance for him on Friday and give those lighweights from down the road, a damn fine spanking.

Fantastic character / absolute legend.

So many memories of far flung northern outposts - he was at every game no matter where it was.

Always good for a chat in the brickies. He used to regale us younger ones with stories from ‘back in the day’.

‘Doomed’ 😀

Pass on my best to him, hope we spank that lot from down the road for him!

‘Don’t wanna go up Brentford… rubbish’ 😉

Sending my very best to Simmo.

We have all got our different tales of Simmo, but one thing is for sure he will always be someone that Is considered a BFC face and legend.
If you are reading this Simmo. I can still remember bumping into you at Shepperton PO in my tea break and you were knocking down a brick wall with one of those big pneumatic drills they use on roads. I doubt if I could even of lifted it. I think we had a good BFC chat and I got a rocket for going AWOL. Must have been about 1989 ish.

Will be in the South on Friday so hopefully can wave or say hello.
As said, absolute Bees legend since way back in the 70’s.
One abiding memory is an ‘encounter’ with Aldershot mob in the street outside New Road turnstiles. Easter ‘78 I think. IYKYK.
Like us all, he’s mellowed a bit now and always a pleasure to see him and say hello when I’ve got to away games over the years.
Get well big man.

Legend is a word thrown around a lot but Simmo is a true bees terrace legend and a nice bloke with it…one of the main faces from the 70s/80s who was always there home and away 👍💪 I hope the team give him the win on Friday night he so richly deserves 🙏🙏

I understand that this is likely to be the last planned visit to a Brentford match by Simmo

This is very upsetting

He was a fixture in the Paddock by the tunnel and sat a few seats along from me

I'm not sure what it means that he is in the "Media Centre" but it doesn't sound like a accessible area for those of us that wish to thank him for his long and exhaulted support. @Peter G - do you know anything about this please?

Yes, I believe this will be his last visit to watch the team. Will be a sad day when another legend passes to the Royal Oak stand in the sky.

I remember him from the mid 70s, when I first started going. He stands alongside Ron Jacobs and Bernie of characters I remember through the years especially at away games where everyone knew each other with a polite nod. He has sat along the row from me on the South Stand since the GTECH was opened, he's a legend alongside many others. I'm sure he'll have a queue to see him on Friday.

I think it was him , Ron and a few others who used to sing this on the train on away days .I was a bit younger than them

Yes, we're all queers together
Excuse us while we go upstairs
Yes, we're all queers together
That's why we go round in pairs
The sexual life of a camel
Is greater than anyone thinks
In the height of the mating season
He tries to get up the Sphinx
But the Sphinx's posterior passage
Is blocked by the signs of the Nile
Which accounts for the hump on the camel
And the Sphinx's mysterious smile
Yes, we're all queers together
Excuse us while we go upstairs
Yes, we're all queers together
That's why we go round in pairs

Ive had the tune in my head and wanted to find out where it was from , found it , but they sang it faster

I remember being sat/stood next to Simmo at Bristol City away a few years ago in the game where Benrhama did the rainbow flick and Ashley Williams was sent off. Very amiable chat and when we won 4-0 (I think) I remember him telling me 'see, nothing to worry about' when I had said I'd be delighted with a point pre game.

Blimey - used to sit pretty much next to him in the paddock 20 odd years ago. Think we just knew him as Paul

I remember in the 1980s midweek away at Orient, we beat them and basically sent them down. Orient fans in the stadium were not overly happy or wanting to wish us a safe journey home.
Now this is the god honest truth, Simmo basically went at pace toward the metal fencing that the Orient fans were behind and even though they were relatively safe, they all legged it in total fear on seeing Simmo.
As a teenager this was a memory that stuck with me for 40+ years.

I also think Simmo loves his fish and chips on BFC excursions. Although my memory might be betraying me.

Dont know Simmo, but thats very sad to read.

I'm obviously oblivious to his troubles etc, but that must be a horrible moment...............attending your last game after so much love and support for the club over the years.

And regarding what i suspect is his very poor health........................ my thoughts go out to him, his family and friends.

All the best Simmo and i hope the club gives him the final result that he will be wanting. :(

Remember being away at Cardiff in the 80’s ( I think). After the game they were let out behind a wall past the away end. There were coins coming over the wall. Will always remember Simmo telling us all to stick together and not take any sh*t from these cnuts! What a man!
