JBN, the best in the country? Realism strikes again

Holysmit, I think it was for 10-15 at Bury, and he made a few saves and important catches. The game against Southend was his first real challenge.

CJC, The result at Swansea was certainly nothing to do with Smith, and about 4 of their goals did come from corners.

Its my opinion on Smithy, I think he is one of the best, like some think Marky Mac is the best since thing since sliced bread

He is looking better every game i see him play. Although on sat he put in another great performance his kicking is still letting him down a bit. Sooner or later he will get snapped up:sad:

no doubt he is one of the best keepers we have ever had. He certainly will go on to better things but I think for the moment he will stay with us.
Is it just me or do people think that at Brentford we have never had a problem with keepers and generally had good soild ones

Definately IMHO. His shot stopping is different class and although Oli was superb I feel more assured with Smith in goal.

Oli had a tendency to make mistakes, especially when he came off his line.
I can only remember one mistake in Smith's career, and it didn't cost us anyway.

May be wrong but I can't recall any post war goalkeeper ( seen or written about) leaving the Bees for higher levels of football. We have had a tradition of some fine keepers over the years from Chic Brodie onwards but they all seem to have peaked at Brentford (and then drifted downwards or retired) or be on their way down from a higher level.

I think few would doubt that Smudger is heading the other way for a change.......and yes better than Oli,which takes some doing.

This may not be in keeping with the other posts, and don't get me wrong, Smith is undoubtedly one of the players of the season (he clapped us v Huddersfield cos he KNEW he'd just won the game single-handedly!!) but there are two areas he needs to improve to reach the top.

First, kicking - as discussed. But getting better, so no probs.

Second, coming off his line. He does have a tendency to come off his line occasionally and leave himself in no-man's land. Not that he was to blame for the result, but Cureton's goal in the decider v Reading last season is an example of what I mean. But less this season, so well done Smithy!

No, don't agree. That was a break-down but there was really nothing more or better smithy could have done. In fact, I'm convinced it was a fluke miskick, which is a hell of a way to give us such a crucial goal. No fault to PS in my opinion.
