Petar Borota

That is a real shock.

He was a typical goalkeeper as mad as a box of frogs.

R.I.P

Petar Borota

RIP.

A real character at Chelsea. I remember everyone being really excited when he signed, but left before the first game of the season, think there was a fall out - He was in the Squad photo though which was taken before hand obviously, so you saw his face in every away programme.

Petar Borota

RIP

No first team matches for the Bees but, as mentioned above, he played in a couple of pre season matches.

In the middle of the back row. Our only goalkeeper at the time!

the first five players in the front row would be useful today!

I've just shuddered at seeing Graham Wilkins physog again. Boy was he baaaaad.

Who's that next to Eddie Lyons? Can recognise everyone else.

Ron Harris!! or do you mean Gary Johnson?

Gary Johnson. Cheers.

Watched the Liverpool 83 game on youtube that Vcmazz very kindly uploaded, was astounded at how good a game Harris had, unless he played out of his skin that night, I remember him being far too old and slow when playing for us.

Undoubtedly he taught Hurlock everything he knew about 'reducer' challenges too.

Petar Borota

He did play for the first team in three Football League Trophy games in 1982. RIP.

:sorted: those were the games i saw him play in then. Wimbledon, Millwall and Gillingham (?) These aren't even listed in 100 or 120 years of BFC :( so were they at the time classed as 'first xi' matches? it was the first season they introduced the Football League Trophy wasn't it? (apart from the 46/47? match)

just checked the FLT stats, none from 1982-83 are listed anywhere, they all start form 1983-84.

I've Just remembered it was the Football League Group Cup that Peter Barota played in, in 1982-83 season. (not the FLT 'rebus'!)

Wimbledon and Millwall away and Crystal Palace at home. IIRC.

I cannot remember why he didn't sign though, was it another offer he had?

I'm off now to the "temple" where the "gods" play.

£20 million for a Van Gogh he had in his attic which turned out to have been painted by a five year old in the local primary school

RIP Peter

I saw him play a pre-season friendly and I'm sure it was against Orient can anyone confirm he played in this match? A real character RIP

that season the Bees had pre season friendlies V's Northampton (away 7-1), Walton (away 2-0) Chelsea (training ground ? 2-0), Aldershot (away 3-1), Kingstonian (away 2-0), Kuwait (training ground ? 9-1) plus Pro's/Junior's friendlies v Godalming (away 2-0) Hanwell (away 4-0) Hayes (away 0-3)

Whether Peter played in all or some i cannot remember! I'd have thought he did.

I know Peter played in the FLT games v C.Palace (home 2-2) Milwall (away 0-3) and Wimbledon (away 3-1)

No idea why he never signed, no memory of it! I know McKellar left that year because of problems with the management, returning to Scotland etc So we signed Paddy Roche as the replacement goalkeeper.

Seem to recall he ended up in court for dodgy dealings in the art world, a real character and sad news he's passed away so young.

I know I saw him play (and he did strike me as being somewhat erratcfi even for a friendly) in at least one pre-season game at GP, and I didn't get to any of the away games (except possibly the Dons game). So either I saw him at the Palace game or the Chelsea match was at GP.

RIP Petar

Petar Borota

i was introduced to him by former director and chairman (and a former goalie too ) dan tana, who was also originally from that part of the world.

both men were great fun ---- larger than life characters.

very sad.

it must've been the Palace match. Chelsea was at the training ground or 'behind closed doors' at GP. Unless you sneeked in somewhere? :suspect:

Petar Borota

i attended that game with kevin coyne
another character who is sadly no longer with us

There were stories about at one time that KC was going to be the next lead singer with the Doors after Jim Morrison. Hell of a distinctive voice.

Petar Borota

Was it his performance at Millwall that gave rise to a few Bees at the time reworking the Jackson Five classic "don't blame it on the boogie" to finish with "blame it on Barota".

Thanks for your reply and info it must have been one of those matches you mentioned as I have a clear memory of seeing him play.
