Peter Broadbent RIP

Went on a jolly to Spurs v Wolves and as we left well after the game finished we met, as it turned out, a director of Wolves who was walking up to Northumberland Park station. My mate joked that I had come to see a Brentford legend in Stephen Hunt playing for Wolves and that stopped him dead in his tracks on the street.

He said that they were talking at a board meeting on the Thusday about a real Brentford legend in Peter Broadbent!! It turns out that his wife had been in touch with Wolves for some help as Peter is suffering from Alzheimers and his wife was talking about selling his memoribilla to help pay for care and respite. Wolves decided to buy the items from Peter. The director described Peter as "The Beckham of his day."

Obviously before my time, and indeed the directors who was ten years older than me, but is there anyone here that saw Peter Broadbent play? Always find it sad that older players have to resort to this when the scandalous amount of "wages" are paid these days for some very ordinary players.

In his autobiography, George Best said he was a Wolves fan and that Broadbent was the player he most admired

I remember him. He was sheer class. A bit like Johnny Haynes of Fulham of the same era IIRC.

Very sad to hear about Peter Broadbent suffering from Alzheimers. I never saw him play personally but was told of his prowess by my late Father who watched the Bees regularly during the 30's,40's & 50's.He used to wax lyrical about PB who we signed from Dover I believe. My Dad reckoned he was one of the best players he ever saw in a Bees shirt & given the era he had watched them he had seen a few. When we sold him to Wolves for £10k it effectively finished it for my old man,I remember him saying we have become a team that sells all it's good players...very prophetic ! Best wishes to Peter & his family at this difficult time.

I'd put him up there with Stan the Man, Johnny Brooks and Jimmy Bloomfield as the Bees' real old-fashioned inside forward greats.

Sad to hear this about Mr Broadbent.A player who was well ahead of his time.The Wolves have done a great thing in helping him and his family out and I just hope we could do something.

Sadly missed him by a couple of years but saw him play for England (in newsreels). Then he came back to GP with Shrewsbury. Although obviously late in his career he was class and absolutely stood out above everyone on the pitch.

Really hope things improve for him.

I remember seeing him play, my late father thought he was one of the best players he'd ever seen and he watched the Bees from the late 20's. Peter was a pure footballer.

I never had the privilege of seeing him play for Brentford, but I heard he was rather good!
A record fee for a teenager when he was sold by the Bees , I believe.
His days at Wolves were legendary, and I do remember him playing for England.

Saw him play for Wolves at Chelsea around 1960 when my dad took me to my first ever game the score was Chelsea 4 wolves 5 with Broadbent scoring one of the goals and jimmy greaves getting all 4 of Chelsea's goals.R I P Peter

Just like your Dad mine raved about PB saying he was one of the greatest Bees players he'd ever seen. He said selling was indicative of Brentfords accepantace thay the halcyon days of the thirties were over. At least our Dads saw the Bees at the top level... I'm not so sure we will ?!
