Peter Farrell

I've stayed in touch regularly with Peter Farrell and pleased that he's finally got a job back in football after a number of disappointments. Whilst he was looking to stay in football he had a mortgage to pay and was working in a care home for a long while.

I had a text from him yesterday confirming that he's now in Nigeria and with a news link which I read but couldn't somehow add to this post so here is another link.

surprised that he didn't join Uwé at Wigan or Leeds? he ran the training pitch at Osterley when I saw the players training.. was impressed with him..

Good luck to him. Warri is a seriously tough location for an expat - I've always hated going there

That said, he's not an oil and gas worker - Nigerians love their football so hopefully it all works out

Not been to Warri but have spent some time in Nigeria and as NR says it's a real tough place to work or live.
Hope the pay cheque is big because he'll earn it.
Good luck to him. I wish him well.

The press cutting that he sent to me stated a salary of 3million Naira. I converted that to just under £11k which can't be right surely either annually (too low) or monthly (too high). He'd had an offer substantially higher than that to coach in Thailand a few months ago.

I don't know what football salaries pay but I would expect any O&G expat to earn somewhere around that on a monthly basis in Nigeria and particularly in Warri. The football clubs generally have seriously wealthy benefactors so I hope Peter is being well looked after - and they continue to pay him!

I spent a fair bit of time talking football in general with Peter at Jersey Road. He is a perfect gent.

As for Warri? I spent a fair few months overall there in the late 70's and early 80's and have to assume it must have improved since then.

I have recently found out that Aunties Kitchen closed down - very very sad is that - a Warri Icon for Ex Pats.

Haven't been to Warri for a while but very sad to hear that Aunties has closed. Hopefully, another expat icon in the area, Mama Lulu's in Escravos, is still in business. I'm still recovering from the Outside Inn in Lagos closing - and that was 10 years ago

Good luck to him, shame to hear he was struggling with work and mortgage. Really nice bloke, always had time for a chat, would let you know what was going on with the team etc down at the training ground and a real funny guy.

Met Peter briefly, via a mutual friend. His son (Tom) travelled down with me for both Chelsea games, even sharing a room with me and showing him the best pubs in west London. Both Peter and Tom were top guys and adopted Brentford as their club.
Shame he had to go to Nigeria to get back into football, hopefully he will be back in football in the UK soon.
