ISB and I had a good natured and very drunken argument with Sansom about how many games he played for us. I applaud Phil for getting the Bees in to the highest level since i've supported the Bee's, it doesn't mean he was the best manager though. Like all managers he made his mistakes. I wish him well though.

As much as i disliked Keith Loring, he was a shrewd guy. A lot better than most of the plonkers who have held the position since. I remember when he called me at home and asked why i was fighting at half time in the side stand at Barnsley. If only they had CCTV back then it would of saved the phone call and an apology from Keith. Bless him. He's done alright since leaving the Bees though.

Noddy, a legend, got us up to Div 2 or 1 whatever. That was a fantastic night around Brentford, the best ever. madness at the ground and got a great pic of me and him right by the top of the steps by the club office. Where is he then?

Would like to see the photo. I was also one of those celebrating with Holder and co on the office balcony.

oh yeah, at the Oval wasn't it. he was a nice man. i remember we were arguing with him about the year he shaved off his moustache! we made him promise to mention brentford next time he was on sky.

he was close to coming back to brentford, when i worked in the griffin, he came one night after house hunting down lateward road and was gobbibg off that he was hoping to work at the club again

Webb couldn't take webbs team up.
Allen cound't take allens team up.
Holder managed to take one of the teams up so credit where credir is due

I do think he failed in the above division as players like dickins and allon were just awful.

The team that got promoted was decimated by the sale of our top goalscorer, and injury to arguably our most influential player and captain for the bulk of the season. We didn't replace either and paid the price, let's face it Murray for Deano, don't get me started!

It's strange, the stats look good but he was more liked for his goofy smile and personality than his football skills. Geordie Jo never really hit the heights and missed a fair few, everyone wanted him to succeed but it just didn't happen.

His 2 goals at VS Rugby and his misses summed him up, I just have this feeling that a few of his missed chances cost us. I may be wrong and on my own but that goal against Derby that gave us hope that we were actually going to make the POs that season and the way it was celebrated will never leave me.

I was deliberately biting my virtual lip on this one yesterday and trying not to comment, because it's been dragged up on so many threads before. But seeing as how the debate appears to have kicked off again, once more I find myself in a situation where I must defend the Brentford legend that is, Joe Allon.

The really strange thing about Joe is that he splits opinion unlike any other player. Most are in agreement that Murray Jones was crap. Not too many will argue that Deano was a bit useful, but with Joe it seems to be 50/50.

In my opinion, the only way Joe Allon was the reason for our relegation in 1993 is that Noddy didn't use him when he should have done. He was the one player that could have kept us up and I'll always believe he would have done :yes:.

I've already said all I'm going to against him, but I'm with you on that. Great finish too. And I can still see the cross coming in from Neil Smilie for the own goal that won it. :love2:

Remember that game really clearly actually - including the Derby fans singing We Will Rock You back at us when they scored.

He made some mistakes, had some bad luck and didn't have the money to invest after losing top quality players. He'll always be a Bees legend to me for his achievements which haven't been matched in my lifetime.

Always surprised me he never got another job. Okay so he had a relegation on his CV, but a very narrow last day one, but he also had taking a club out of the bottom two divisions for the first time in 40 years on his CV. Wonder if he was never offered another managerial job, or if he just decided it wasn't for him and never applied for another.

This wasnt the view held by many, I suppose beauty was in the eye of the Bee, Holder.

Though perhaps we could speculate at some short-comings watching the team every week, when you consider that the season we were promoted we were up against clubs of the size of WBA, Birmingham and Stoke plus others who not long after have been up to the Prem and I'm some cases stayed there, and narrowly failed to stay up the next season it did seem odd another club didn't take a punt on him.

The football was very direct, on its day exciting it was true, but we got found out in Division1/ Championship as there was no plan B.

I remember us getting outplayed at West Ham away when we hardly got the ball and thinking they were playing a different game to us.

Always thought it odd he didn't get another managers job but joined a long list of one club wonders I guess.

Play-offs in 91, champions in 92, a season at the second level in 93. So it all went wrong in the end but still three tremendous seasons and unmatched in my BFC time.
