I know it was commonplace in the 30's, 40's and 50's for top players to enjoy a few pints and ciggies before and after games but who in the modern game does (ie. 60's onwards). I think the Charlton brothers smoked a bit and of course Socrates got through forty fags before a world cup match ! Then there was Diego who smoked anything and our own Stan Bowles used to get changed in the Griffin before a game and smoked cigars. There must be many more.

in the 80ties nearly all players enjoyed fags and beer ,vinnie jones,fash,norman whiteside robbo mgrath ...etc all were top players at the time,diet ....na they trained hard and solid for 2 hours a day didnt need all this pussy sxxt they get now ....oxygen tanks and physco analasys....beckham n co wouldnt of survived back then

At one time players actually used to advertise fags! Looks really strange now to see cigarettes linked with athletic prowess.
One of the brands I recall was 'Sarony'.

I believe players are alot fitter now than 10-20 years ago.

Couldn't imagine Blissett, Feeley, Evans, Bates, and others to keep up with todays pace of the game !
