Playground arguments

My daughter, who is a regular supporter at GP, is plagued by kids in her school who say Brentford are rubbish etc, whilst never actually getting to a game. To help her stand her corner in the playground, I would like to give her some Brentford facts that may help shut up her tormentors. I do remember reading somewhere that Brentford has a good historical record against Arsenal (Bees have won more than Arsenal games played?). Does anyone have information on this, and any other amazing facts to get one up on the Arsenal/Chelsea/Man U clones.

Playground arguments

(1) We lasted longer in this year's FA Cup than both of last year's finalists.

(2) Our head-to-head record with Arsenal reads: Arsenal wins 2, Brentford wins 5, draws 3. I believe that no-one has a better record against Arsenal than this.

Thanks - excellent one-liners to respond to snotty-nosed faux fans. Any others gratefully received.

Why are most youngsters these days label slaves?

Tell your daughter to support the best team every year (chelski, ManUre, Arsenal usw)

OR

tell her you are proud of her being an individual who supports a real team, playing real football big time involved with the local community.

Don't let her listen to the playground losers who never actually do anything in life but criticise those who do.

But above all don't defend but go on the attack against those premiership wannabees are the losers not us.

Good. Keep the faith and above all BE YOURSELF.

Surley markbfc can help you out. I was reliabley informed on Friday night that he use to wander around the playground with his Bee's scarf defending their good name to anyone who dared to bad mouth the Bee's.

Great, thanks. Can anyone else help me with 'ten top reasons to support the Bees', for use in the playground!?

Maybe not in your day but when I was at Heston School they all ripped the **** out of me when the Braemar burnt down.

I thought that was a rite of passage for all baby Bees? All this playground taunting is character forming - it strengthens the bonds to the club that much more when we've suffered so much on its behalf:D

My son has a similar problem, he just says how many games have you been to then? A lot of his friends have now adopted the Bees as their second team which in Wokingham is not bad going as Reading are usually the second team behind the premiershite, mind you that may change

she is a loyal fan...she doesn't need excuses. I bet the other kids just support chelsea, arsenal, manure etc. She should be proud of her team anyway, apart from lasting longer than man utd and arsenal being managed by the greatest man in the world etc.

Tell them if they don't shut up they'll have Martin Allen to answer to.

Actually considering the charimsa of Martin Allen would it be a terrible idea to send him to a few schools and big up Brentford, i'm sure he could convince a few to come to Brentford!

Lil' FB just asks them how many games they've been to this season - I think his favourite come back is something along the lines of I've been to see my team in more games this week than you'll ever manage in a season - he loves the Bees & is a Statto in the making - Chappers is his hero

Having said that there are a fair few kids at his school who support Aldershot - whether you approve of that or not at least they can't be accused of glory hunting!

Works for me
'Who have Man U got in the Champions League again?'

Take her down to the training ground to meet the players and then she can ask her taunters how many of 'their' first team have talked to them and given them a pleasant day out.

Another one for her:

Brentford are unbeaten in European matches

Fond memories of the Anglo-Italian campaign

I think Derby 3-4 still counts as a Euro game :nono:

We lasted longer in the cup than Arsenhole, Tottingham, Fulscum and QPhaa.

Also endorse Nigel's comment about taking her - and why not some of her friends - down to the training ground. I took my Grandson down pre season and he had the time of his life, MA took time out to come and speak with him without even being asked to.:sorted:

i have the exact same problem :( most people in my year (year 10) are glory hunters and support premiershite teams that they only go to watch like once in a lifetime. i usually just respond to their taunts of 'haaaa brentford are sh*t' etc with how many (premiershite team) games have you seen this season. i get the usual response of none or 1 or 2. i usually then dismiss them as glory hunters but get the usual reply of i have been supporting them for 5 years etc how can i be a glory hunter. anyone got any good ideas for a response to this

Playground arguments

According to AceFace to be a proper Bees fan in the playground she needs to put a yellow cheese hat on and start kicking and punching anyone who tells her to stop doing something.

Don't bother .. the sort of people who don't respect you for being a bee are the sort of people you shouldn't be interested in being mates with... your real mates may take the ****, but only cos they have a begrudging repsect... stick it out mate :sorted:

Playground arguments

the reasons:

1. a pub on each corner of the ground!

2. she owns the club as she is one of the fans.

3. won every single home game in the 1929/30 season - and still failed to get promoted!

4. Rod Stewart played for us.

5. the club wins awards for its community work.

6. you can still stand and watch a game on a terrace - so there is some atmosphere.

7. getting a ticket (unless it is an FA Cup game, ahem!) is not a problem - £20 or £30 for a season ticket for kids.

8. WE ARE GOING UP!

9. chicken balti pies.

10. you'll have to come up with yourself!

Ask them if supporting them for 5 years means watching them on the box for 5 years?

Tell 'em the real atmosphere in Football is down at the game, watching them sweat up close and experiencing the crowd. Tell 'em you'll be happy to bring them to a real game so they can experience it for themselves.

it's hard, I kid you not, I know people who have come from China etc. and are true Manu supporters, because even though they haven't been near manchester, they have got the shirts, the mugs, the scarves the carpets...

The real question is:

What's the difference between Brentford, and Manu/Arsenal on 18th February 2006 14:50?

I normally get oh brentford are sh*te from a chelsea supporter. In responce just say to them name 6 of your clubs player including 1 reserve team player.

I DID play against him though. Useful on the pitch but useless at buying a round in the bar - typical Scotsman :D

My son sells out at school and opts for Chelsea but he still puts on his (or my) Bees scarf for Brentford games. Gets him through playtime unscathed and leaves him free to practise the hand lifting 'Owuuuuusuuuu' hand lifting celebrations without ridicule. I think he could be on to a good thing. I recall turning away having scored in the playground shouting 'Mansley scores again' and you could have heard a pin drop. The grief I took could've earned me hours of free therapy on the NHS in todays 'more enlightened' times.

Playground arguments

What will make people, particularly schoolchildren, think it 'cool' to support smaller teams like Brentford. at the moment the brand juggernauts (Chelsea etc) are winning. Small teams are starved of cash by getting less TV exposure etc.

yep i've even managed to turn 1 of them from man u to brentford. i also have a friend who is a fulham fan, been trying to turn him but he is not like most of the people he actually goes to the games so i respect him. but what really ****es me off is premiershite glory hunters telling me how crap brentford are and how good there team are that they saw on sky last week so they are a real fan
