The heart ache thought it was over after bouremouth but after seeing them away at Swansea I foolishly thought yes we can do it.... But I was wrong

The two things that really hurt me today, were not the peformance even though it was extermly dissapointing, not seeing another teams fans go wild at GP, i've got used to that as well. But what really upset me was firstly

A) the looks on the faces of all the Brentford die hards, the ones who you could tell had been through it so many times before and would be back again next season despite it, due to nothing but blind hope.

And

B) The number of ****ing ***** I passed on the way back home, in the Brentford/Ealing area who didn't seem to have a clue that a game had been going on and were trying to work out why myself and others look so dejceted. Some of them had Arsenal, Chelsea or Scum U shirts on and it made me sicker then anything else. If these tossers started actually taking an interest and supporting there local team, then we'd have the money to keep players like DJ and the council would have to take us a damn sight more seriously regarding a new stadium (no matter how poorly organised the board.) I came out of that game looking for someone to blame and suddenly it dawned on me its all the tossers in the Brentford area who just completly ignore us, its time our football club got some more support from the whole community.

it is not all doom and gloom.

we had a great cup run (again), made the play-offs (again) and had some thrills and spills over the past nine months.

better than most in the division?

ok, a HUGE disappointment but the club has come on leaps and bounds these past two years.

how about a pat on the back for MA and the boys for getting us so near - even if it was so far in the end.

**** that! They let us down, simple as that. They bottled it, and they let us down, that is my opinion.

It was a bit disappointing considering the importance of the game but those who were there did give it a good go to get the lads playing.
Big police and horse presence, presumably in case we'd won and the visitors had been unhappy.

Sorry I can't agree with you. The club has got further and further into debt. Sure we've had 2 good cup runs, 2 more play-off disappointments and some good games to enjoy. But when these memories fade what real headway have we made to secure the future of BFC?

I'm disappointed with how the season has finished. I'm disappointed that we threw away the chance of automatic promotion. What I am angry about is not the team it is the way the club has been managed.

To my mind the most important thing BU/BFC have had to do was to reduce the loss/reduce the debt. They have singularly failed to do this.

Maybe DJ could have been kept if BU/BFC had not continued to plunge us headlong into deeper debt. As a result of the poor management there was no option not to sell him or anyone else in the coming months.

Hopefully we have a better season next year however unlikely this may seem. I suppose that after Noades, Webb et al there was only ever a slim chance of BFC surviving; the wasted opportunities of the last few years has IMO virtually wiped out our chance of survival.

i think MA's tactics and changes have not been up to scratch, as well as some of the players not giving their best. the Bees have failed again, but this time the consequences will be worse and the club will pay for it in the end with a lower wage structure next season. absolutely dejected/disappointed but knew it in the back of my mind that the team wasn't good enough for the next step up which Swansea are geared up for. look at their bench to ours !! I'd have thought GP would've been full but in the end was 1000 short. If the fans don't come to these games they never will.

The management of the club and the debts will have to be put above what happens on the pitch. if they don't manage it right next season then we may as well start with -10 points now. Then the debts can be restructured with the sale and leaseback of GP. thats what i feel will happen. how else can a club move forward with debts 3 times the yearly income? it'll never get paid back. somewhere next season we'll have to find £1 million extra to service debts especially if RN wants part of his money back now. If the Bees are set to lose £600k this season with it being quite successful and with the sale of DJ and extra cash coming in from BU/Loans etc how the hell are we to survive next season?

By cutting the playing budget....which will lead to failure on the pitch and reduced matchday and sponsorship income.....which will have to lead to further cuts in the budget....... which in turn will produce.......

This was a golden chance to break that downward spiral - and we bottled it.

What I wanted to see today was our men to stand up roll their sleeves up and get the job done, simple as.
We have proved this season on countless occasions that we can stand up to the task and the playoffs are about literally dying for the cause of your team.
We went to Swansea on thursday and got a fantastic result by playing to our strengths against a quality side. We were at home and needed another mammouth performance but i think that Swansea wanted it more, coupled with the fact that we were caght short at the back on 2 occasions. The fact that we had a player in Rankin who although he worked hard would not make the starting 11 normally and an unfit, lacking match practice- Rhodes up front didn't help the cause. Kenny Jackett said something to the effect of -'You have to battle playing brentford' after the match and that's what they did along with taking their chances. We needed to start that game at 200 miles an hour get at them and do what we do best. i thought sodje would have sorted knight out but it wasnt to be.

Yep, it's been fun watching Brentford this season with more success than we're used to.

But in the end we blew it - plain and simple. The two home draws at the end cost us promotion and that's hard to take. So while I pat the players on the back I'll also whisper in their ear that they blew it.

Shouldn't even have been in the play offs, blew it against Blackpool & Hartlepool.

Face up to it Brentford again bottled it and I am fed up of "getting so near" b******s to it.

It's about time we actually won something worth winning.

I'm more likely to be around for the next sighting of Hailleys Comet before we win promotion or have a team that doesn't bottle it.

If we'd started off playing park football but scraped in to the play-off's then we'd all be delighted to have got to where we'd got today.

But, Martin Allen bottled it from half-time at Swansea away and turned a motivated team in to a bunch of nervous incompetents and was particulalry let down by the likes of Newman and his lack of nous with forwards.

The best chance of automatic promotion from this bloody division and we blew it, no one else, it was down to Brentford FC and no one else

Martin Allen bottled it. What the F**k are you going on about. Tell me what you would have done in that situation on Thursday. We were totally up against it. We were 1-0 up and tried to protect it. There are people slagging off MA after what he's done in the last three years. If we do get a new manager I can guarantee he will not do half as much as what MA has done and then everyone will realise. I have to say that Brentford have probably got a bunch of the most negative fans ever seen!!!!!!!!!

Years of non achievement and bottling the big games have contributed to that..we have had one actually succesfull season in the 18 years I have been going.. and I am a youngun compared to others.. think about those poor bastards who started going in 1980....1 good season in a quarter of a century!!!

I've been going since 1980. Yeah there has been some bad times but there has been some great times as well. Come on mate, we're only a small club and always will be. There are some clubs that have had nothing to cheer about for 30 or 40 years.

and (it has to be said) obsctructed by unduly negative
tactics in home games against mediocre opponents

we should have beaten easily

I don't see what the problem is. We are a small club. We need to accept this. Our ambitions match our performances. If people want to support a successful club, there are plenty to choose from.

I support a small club and I'm facking proud of it. We always seem to keep harking back to the good old days, when the Royal Oak was full to the brim, when we had 9,000 odd every game. Sorry, but it's irrelevant to today. We gain supporters, we lose supporters. Our average attendance is little different to 20 years ago, although 20 years ago, we could attract many more floating fans.

Every time we look like doing "something" good, we just don't have the resources or stadium to build on it. I blame Noad£s, first and foremost, but the club has never been ambitious.

especially as Swansea brought so many, I reckon there were some jacks in the home stand as well.

But it doesn't matter what league we are in, how many people are going to Brentford, there will always be the 'bankers' and there will always be the 'vociferous minority' as long as Brentford Football Club exists.

We are a now small club but I truly believe that we could have been significantly bigger than we are now, but for the serious continual lack of investment over the years. People are sick of it and I'm convinced that after every failure, like today, we lose a few hundred more.

Crap crowd today and fairly crap crowds throughout the season, considering our position in the league for most of it. We took about 10k to Cardiff last time we were there and we would have taken no more this year.

Aren't there clubs all over the country suffering from relatively poor attendances? Isn't this a general trend?

We have had some real disappointments over the years, but we've had some great times too!

People talk about being so hard done by, yet in the last 16 seasons, we've been involved in promotion or relegation battles 11 times and had 2 championships, 6 playoffs, 2 FA cup 5th rounds, and an LDV final. That is pretty exciting stuff, and many clubs could not boast that much to remember!

I meant those who COULD get to the game but didnt bother.. it just ****es me off. People moan that we've got a small club mentality but if we can't even fill a small ground for a big match like this then it just confirms how small we really are and that we're going to stay that way.. But the point is that are getting smaller, in relative terms, with each passing year. When I started going in the mid-late '70's our crowds were much the same as they are today - but we were in the 4th Division then and thought of ourselves as being, if not sleeping giants, then at least a club with plenty of potential. Thousands of latent (no, I don't mean Leyton) supporters would come out of the woodwork whenever we strung a few wins together. I refer you back to another game against Swansea - League cup 3rd round 1982; over 15,000 turned up just to see us play a mediocre top flight side in the League Cup  That reservoir of support is now gone. We have the hard core and thats it. We now openly admit to, even glory in, being a small club and our horizons and expectations are limited accordingly. That would have been inconceivable 25 years ago. I don't know how we go about arresting this slide, but a solid 5 year spell in the Championship would have helped :(

Of course. All too vividly. But thats why I said relatively smaller - although our crowds have risen since then its not been at the same rate as the increases most other clubs have experienced since those very dark days. Some examples from 1984/5 of clubs which had a similar or smaller average home gate than the 4,074 we recorded that season;

Swansea 4,421
Cardiff 4,363
Burnley 4,177
Preston 3,793
Reading 3,689
Crewe 2,271
Southend 2103
Northampton 1,824
Tranmere 1,595

Look at the increases experience by all of those since and compare it with the extra 1,500 that we've gained.

A lot of them have probably died.

It isn't fashionable to support Brentford. Kids today want to support a Premiership side. They will probably never see them, but they do.

I live near Woking and my son is a Bees fan, if he supported any other side, I sell him on Ebay. In his year, there is one other child that supports Brentford. Whenever possible, I take them to the training ground to keep the interest going.

He was at a football party and wore his Bees shirt, I thought he would get it ripped out of him, but all the Chelsea/Man U/Liverpool top wearing kids thought it was brilliant because it was signed by all the players from a vist to the training ground.

I would rather have Brentford then any other team, I know I can go see them whenever I want, for a game or in training. If others want to be shallow and support a team that they will never see, then thats up to them.

All clubs have glory hunters, the world is full of Man U ones. Brentford cannot afford to alienate ours, because we need all the support and cash that comes with it, so stop whinging about about the attendance.

Whats the prospects of a new ground, I heard word of something that was being planned at some stage, not sure where.

Take our attendances, a few years ago, averaging I think about 4000, then after our courting with death (saved from conference on last day) interest was re-ignited and we got about 7-9000 over the last couple of years, but it was only when the new ground opened (start of this year) that the crowds have reached 14000 average and at least 3 sell outs of home tickets (19000+ crowds).

New ground does add quite a few from curiosity and quite a few return.

As for yesterday, I was told by someone in the crowd that loads of fans were in Swansea watching on the box, gutted they couldn't get tickets, can honestly say that wouldn't have happened in previous years.

Two things that make Brentford unique.

1. We are unable to win play-offs.
2. We are unable to get a new ground.

Everyone else can do it, why can't we?
