Poor mental strength

Is it possible that a more positive psychological approach is applied to the minds of our players especially during a game.

The problem with thinking that the first goal will be decisive is that if the opposition score it you have just told yourself you have lost which is ridiculous. A better mindest is to think the team with the most goals at the end will be the winner.

I do worry about the mental approach the team have at present

And the boss said he told the players whoever made the first mistake would lose...he's obviously never wondered about the power of negative suggestion.

Think about something and it will happen...dont make a mistake don't make a mistake doh

A lot of things Uwe does seem very negative. His team selection has often appeared negative. Imagine Ferguson or Clough saying the first goal will win a game. I dont think so.

Poor mental strength

Last season I think we showed quite strong mental strength to come back so late in so many games.

Poor mental strength

We came from behind to win games on many many occasions last season, late winners versus MK dons, equalising in injury time versus SU with 9 men and winning a penalty shoot are just 3 that come to mind.

Close thread.

Poor mental strength

Last season we definitely had the mental side covered - but with more pressure, high expectations I don't think comments like "whoever makes the first mistake will win" help in the slightest. That meant, having gone 1-0 down due to a mistake, that we would lose? Bet the players felt great when the ball hit the net.

You are right, we did but I think this season has got a lot more pressure on Uwe's shoulders. He has delivered everything he promised in the last two seasons. Now things are beginning to go a bit off track and he looks a bit lacking in ideas and the negativity is creeping in. Also if there is a problem in the dressing room he will find it difficult to put things right.
I wish him well, because this club has never been managed so well. A man who is a supporter putting large sums of money into it. Its never happened in the past. I've supported the Bees since the mid 1940,s and hope I live to see it come to fruition.

Poor mental strength

Not sure its poor mental strength, as Condorman syas we showed great of mental strength last year. I think it is more to do with being shackled by formations/tactics. The players do not seem to play with freedom, they always seem so focused on playing a system that they dont always express themselves. Forshaw appeared to abandon the tactics against Orient (ie he didnt stick to his position on the left) and he just roamed across the middle - it worked perfectly, his play was fluid, energetic, creative and great to watch - whether Uwe had instructed him to do this i dont know. When we stop worrying so much about systems/formation/opposition and just play, our quality shines through, eg - mid November to Christmas last year. Tactics, formations and the opposition are of course important but a theme of Rolser's reign has been that we are fixated/obsessed by these factors. Brian Clough always insisted on keeping things as simple as possible - perhaps Rosler would benefit from taking a leaf out of his book, especially as he is dealing with a younger and less talented squad than Clough generally had.

Poor mental strength

no mental problems, close thread.. just to many changes..

loads of managers say if they had scored the 1st goal they would have won.. it's you that's negative..

Thats not like saying 'The first mistake will lose the game'. Maybe I should have said Ferguson or Clough would not say 'The first mistake will lose the game'. Entirely different.

Uwe likes us to play one way, the players don't seem to listen.. I'm worried that the players are to knackered from pre-match training before kick off lately lol

I am more worried that post the Hayes altercation the players are choosing not to listen, instructions to play the ball to feet on Tuesday when Trotta came on were most obviously disregarded

he must only see Hayes and Farid for the long ball game, that he doesn't want to play..

£100k plus a year in their early twenties - if the above was the case, they better ****ing get over themselves.

It is a bit of a paradox really, because if a player HAS mental strength then being told that if you let 1 goal in with 15 mins to go would mean nothing to them, they would be strong enough (and not completely thick as pig sh*t to be honest) to know they could equalise in a game that has 15 mins left. This is a group of players who got 95th minute penalty against swindon and Donny to add to the late winners last year and done the same thing versus tranny 2 weeks ago. Not a sign of players without mental strength to be honest. If they DIDN'T have mental strength then a) they wouldn't keep on winning late in games and b) we don't want players who can be so easily corrupted by one tiny little teensy weensy comment like that.

As said before....close this thread it is nonsence.

The reason we are not winning our games is because

1. Injured players
2. inability to turn dominance into goals
3. Playing players out of position and negative formations
4. tinkering with formations and players every game
5. Not knowing your best 11
6. Poor tactical substitutions.

Nothing to do with mental strength.

I really doubt that........ honestly, do you really believe that?. Hayes the fat useless slob throws a punch at the manager, gets suspended, so for that reason I am going to hoof the ball rather than follow instructions. Come on, that is rediculous, the players want to play/win/improve/extend their career.

Poor mental strength

CONFIDENCE

Massive factor. :imwith:
Bang on. Our players have not become sh*t over night, and neither has our manager/tactics. They look as nervous as **** everytime the ball comes into the box at the moment.

Spot on.

Poor mental strength

There does seem to be a lack of motivation from the manager maybe time for a change we need to get some pma back.

Two big factors in my opinion are we are missing Jake Bidwell amd JD big time.

If this comment had come from anyone else ( me for example ) I would have thought that they were seeing something out of nothing. I dont place you in that category so do you think that things are really that bad?

I really have no idea but you here whispers from time to time that it's not a happy ship at present, the Hayes incident may have polarised opinions within the squad as he was an extremely popular person within the group

Could be nothing but something is most definitely wrong at present, players don't become bad overnight but if the manager says the team was instructed not to play hoof ball on Tuesday why were those instructions not followed as we started and finished playing that way

Perhaps I an just imagining things that are not there so don't quote me!!!!! However it's happened before in the last 50 plus years and dies not finish well!!!

Poor mental strength

They don't follow instructions some of the time because they are 3rd division footballers who panic and forget what they have been told, It isn;t a deliberate ignoring of instructions believe me.

The other possibility of course is that mischievous people might be happy to perpetuate this story.

Like the rumour of Hayes swinging for Rosler? Seems to have been accepted as fact by many.........

No. the rumour that there is some kind of revolt in support of Hayes as a result of whatever happened.

What if nothing happened? Rumour fuelling rumour fuelling rumour fuelling rumour ad infinitum

Happy to be wrong, obviously listened to wrong people and added 2 plus 2 and got 5

2+2 always equals 5 :(

I disagree. I thought Monday was one of the best atmospheres at GP in a long time and the players were up for it and dominant. The turning point was logans lack of brain, if he had a brain he would still be at man city so you have to put up with this occasionally. The next was the poor substitutions, something that compounded the defeat and is not something that has gone beyond criticism in the past.

Motivation and mental strength are not applicable to any of the above.

Poor mental strength

I think the problem is more about being physically robust rather than mentally robust

I do not belive this -give me strength. Talk about making something out of nothing. Its crackers on this board at the moment.

At least read my bleeding post before slagging me off. Pipe isn't someone who normally jumps on bandwagons or spreads rumours, so I was asking him a reasonable question. I wasn't suggesting anything about the Hayes situation. I know F all about it. I don't know if/why he isn't on the scene at the moment.
Is that clear enough?

Poor mental strength

On Monday I was as disappointed as every Bees fan that we did not win against a technically limited Orient side. Their only discernable pattern of play was 1/ a very quick right winger 2/ extensive use of hoof ball 3/ plus a much more street wise approach to the physical battle. I lost count of the number of times that an Orient forward preceded the expected long ball, with a good sideways shove on either of our center backs. At half time i really expected us to improve on the first halves dire final third delivery, and knock Orient off their winning run. Once the Orient goal went in the element of comfort on the ball immediately disappeared. It is always the brave thing to retain possession, and try to go through the phases with a passing game, as Harlee has found out on occasion. It is clear that the remit from Uwe would be pass and pass and pass, and i am sure that he would have been frustrated on the side line. My main concern is that there was not the bottle / leadership on the field to pursue our game, despite a one goal set back. Maybe this is where JD comes in.

........................that's where it's all going wrong; it should be pass and pass and pass and shoot.......................

Poor mental strength

I am concerned about the low confidence that some players are suffering from according to the boss

Genuine question, does the club have a sports psychologist in its ranks?

Poor mental strength

We have only won one game in 2013 in the league (2-1 against Swindon) where we did not score the first goal.

I remember my manager on a sunday morning used to tell me to go out, run all day, win every 50 50 and score a hat trick. Now, if I failed to do any of those things was it because I refused to follow instructions?

Poor mental strength

A much more positive set of words on the OS from AM time will tell and needs all players and staff to buy in

The talent is there now they need to believe again that the opposition scoring is just a challenge to score more.

Hopefully we will get back soon to scoring late goals a feature that has recently disappeared apart from Tranmere, see its still there though, time for self belief to become our 12th man
