Potential New Bees?

With all this talk of a "Super League" I've seen a lot of fans of these clubs prepared to jump ship, given that three of these clubs are based in London might we expect an influx of new fans? Interested to know everyone's thoughts on this cheers

I welcome any new fans as long as they embrace the ethos of this club and the traditions of the club. Only way for any club to grow and be successful is to grow a fanbase. I've enjoyed GP being only half full for years, but it prevented the club from growing. As long as they embrace it no qualms.

And I can't get this image out of my mind of lots of Chelsea fans, that apparently now 'support Brentford' feeling comfortable enough to wear their Chelsea leisurewear at Lionel Road.

I get what you're saying, but you've stuck with Brentford for nearly 60 years. So you've seen quite a lot of heartache and quite a lot of utterly abysmal football. But you still support Brentford.
The kind of fans I'm talking about are the ones who "will" stop supporting us should we go backwards, or even relegated. These are the types who will proudly boast to their friends how they are a Brentford fan, when in actual fact, they're doing it to be trendy. Someone said to me, not so long ago, that Brentford is perceived to be a bit "hipster". Progressive, different, but not mainstream. I don't mind that per se, but I cannot stand it when new fans jump on the bandwagon and then will cut their association with us if it was to go tits up.

I'm a fairly recent supporter of Brentford, my first game was only in 2017 having moved to the area a bit before, been nothing but welcomed in the New Inn and the Ealing Road end, had a couple of questions about the Scottish accent but that's fair game.

I'm not sure about the plausibility of supporting two teams in the same country, in Scotland you'll have people who support the old firm and then claim to support a local side, although that support never usually amounts to much.

For Dunfermline and Brentford to play each other it would require both to get into Europe, it'd be a nice problem to have eh?

Yes you are either a supporter ie. One who buys a season ticket, membership, attends as much as they can home and away and buys merchandise or a fan ie. One who admires a team and follows their fortunes without necessarily forking out cash to put in their coffers.

You can change teams, it's just rare...if Chelsea fans felt disenfranchised for years, and started coming down and found it a breath of fresh air. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't start coming more often or find a new home here.

I remember the story of Adrian Edmondson who did just that. Was a big Chelsea fan, but moved down to Devon and started going to Exeter occasionally. He found it so refreshing and real that he became a full supporter.

I think it's definitely possible. I watch or listen to every Brentford game. I'm also a season ticket holder for the Portland Timbers whose home is 4,920 miles from Lionel Road. Portland has never played Brentford and never would other than a friendly. (Where I'd be rooting for Brentford) Newcastle, Aston Villa, Preston, and West Brom are among the teams that have come to Portland in recent years and typically lost.

Portland's next home match is a champions league game vs the Mexican champions (Club America) which is fascinating but has absolutely nothing to do with Brentford's promotion push.

Time to beat Cardiff and turn up the heat on Watford

We could potentially be entering into a time that would not have been envisaged 30 years ago. Long gone are the days where the home supporters were mainly born and bred within 5 miles of the ground and supported the Bees from an early age. Think we will still attract support in that way but now the game has opened up such that we have supporters all over the world, some have never ever attended a live game, does that make them a lesser supporter, I don't think so. So the answer to the question is of course we will get some supporters from other clubs who are not happy with the way things have changed for. Don't see a problem myself.

I work with a guy who claims he supports Liverpool and Fulham, last season he couldn’t stop talking about how much he loved both clubs, he’s only been working there just over a year so I couldn’t tell you who he supported before but he’s been very quiet about both clubs recently.
Me personally I could only ever support the one club, yes there’s other clubs I like.

My German wife has been a BMGladbach supporter/follower since childhood without seeing them in Germany as she grew up under the Russian occupation and then moved to the UK. Since moving to the UK she’s seen them twice in PSFs. She has loads of tops and merchandise and is absolutely passionate about them and mood swings depending on results. On one of our first dates I dragged her to Bees v Grimsby (4-0) and she loved it, followed by Barnet away and immediately adopted the Bees. Weve travelled England following the Bees together (latterly with our kids) for many years and she is as passionate (and has as much tops and merch) for Brentford as for BMG. She’s always said if we played each other she would have to hope for a draw as can’t split them.

It was later than the 1970s that Tranny played on Friday nights. Half Man Half Biscuit were asked by Channel 4 to perform on Jools Holland’s The Tube in 1986, but because Tranmere were at home to Scunthorpe on the Friday night of their proposed appearance, the band chose to watch that instead of appearing on national TV.

Tranmere won 2-1 before a crowd of 1,417.
