Press Conference: Notes

Brian opened the meeting by paying tribute to the generous individuals and the thousands of supporters that have donated £500,000 from fund raising. He then said "Thanks too to Ron Noades and Altonwood for their help. Without their commitment to pass the club to supporters the deal could not happen"

The BFC Board met at 10am that morning where there were 5 new appointees - those being:
Greg Dyke
Brian Burgess
David Heath
Ian Jones
P.O. Emanuelsson (off to Google soon :sorted: )

further Stephen Callen has resigned from the BFC Board.

Brian stated that he was looking for 4 qualities in a new Chairman
1. A Brentford supporter
2. A proven track record
3. Experience on the board of a football club
4. Had experience in dealing with the media
(he might as well have added "Must be called Greg Dyke" )

He produced a letter from Greg Dyke that a supporter had given him (Martin Selby?) who had written to Dyke at the BBC asking Dyke whether he would like to get involved at BFC. The reply

"Dear Martin Selby

It depends what you mean by "being part of the set-up"

Best Wishes

Greg Dyke"

Greg then spoke and congratulated Brian and his team on their feats of plate-spinning and said that the club was now "controlled by the supporters". His aim was to get more people through the turnstiles and to make BFC more successful. Referring to the letter Brian read out Dyke stated that when he wrote it he didn't mean becoming the Chairman......... but his circumstances at the BBC changed shortly afterwards :)

In response to Tim Street's question about whether he would be running the club day-to-day Dyke said that this is not a full-time executive role. He whole philosophy towards management is that you give people a job and let them get on with it. He will be making the strategic decisions at board level, and not getting involved day-to-day. He said that crisis do occur from time to time when the board will get involved.

Dyke said that he saw Martin, his staff and the players (including the Youth team) this morning and that he and Brian had spent an afternoon at Martin's about a month ago. He had the usual good words to say about Martin but remarked that no manager ever has enough money and that he spoke to David Dein whose manager doesn't have enough money.

He's been to virtually every game this season and starting coming in the days of the Terrible Twins. He also said that he got tickets for the Southampton game with his six(?) children but in the home end (obviously didn't know a good tout!)

He was asked what his specific long-term goals are for the club and answered (after a little thought) the Champions League. Brian said that BU have a five-year plan/ambition to see BFC established in the top-half of the Championship.

Yes.

He said that the sponsorship deals referred to as "in the bag" were still being negotiated.

He also said that the deal with King is subject to a confidentially clause and there would be an announcement "very soon" depending on what was in the envelope he was holding in the champagne pics.

Are they his insurance policy, hidden camera photos of Bee H to stop him chucking Eddie out of the window at the first Board meeting?

I liked Bran Burgess' , "Chairman, Oh sorry ex-chairman" line. Just so that he remembers.
