Promotion issue

An interesting point raised in the Q&A session. If we get promoted, it seems we have three seasons to turn our club into an allseater.

1) Do we get a grant for this? If not, then...

2) Since turning our ground into an allseater would a) cost a fair amount of money and b) reduce our capacity, is it in fact a better financial option to become a yo-yo club: ie go up, stay there for a couple of years and get relegated, come back up again, etc.?

But in 5 years time we'll be at Lionel Road - so not a real problem for us unless we go up this year. Even then I'm sure we'll get a year's extension as a new stadium will be available the following season.

Yo-yo-ing doesn't help as each year you spend in the top two flights counts - they don't have to be consecutive. Seats could probably be bolted onto Ealing Road, but the Brook Road terrace would surely have to close.

Im sure the away fans could bring deck chairs for Ealing Rd .I dont think BR lower would have to close.Id rather be in the Championship and " only " be able to get reduced gates of 10k

The Brook Road wouldn't have to close, I'm sure I saw some plans that would make it workable as a seated area. Financially is a different question but I'd like to think the attitude has changed from the 80s where we just sold bits away or shut them down turning our capacity into 25% of what it used to be.

Yes. This involved extending the stand forwards and eating into the track by the pitch. Can't understand how this would work as you'd almost be at eye level with the pitch! Surely the terrace is too shallow to put seats on.

This would not be too different from New Road where the terrace level of the front row of seats is approx two to three feet below pitch level.

I also thought that both Ealing Road and (possibly) Brook Road terrace were already constructed for seats and just needed them bolting on. Certainly the Ealing Road terrace was done at the same time as New Road but the seats were never installed as it was uncovered and thought that standing would suffice for the time being. But if we were promoted it would just be a case of bolting the seats on, roof or not. After all, many grounds have open seating including Portsmouth in the premiershit.

It would be a nice problem to have. Mightn't there be Football Trust funding for this (is it part of the proposed roofing project for Ealing Road)?
