He scored goals yes, but he was one of the slowest forwards we've had, probably akin to bob taylor's pace!!

What about Paul Birch?

All 3 goals he scored were breakaways from the half way line where he beat everyone for pace and finished 1 on 1 with the keeper.
He did bugger all else though.

Maybe cos it's impossible! Even maurice Greene can only do it in a shade under 10 seconds.

Quickness isn't quite the same as speed. You can run fast and leave defenders standing in your wake when you run on to a through ball, but quickness is about acceleration and the ability to explode away from a defender and make space where there was none before. John Docherty was quick for example, whereas Allan Mansley and David Crown were fast.

Mark McCammon never looked as if he was running that fast,but he was like lightning,always sent a shiver down the spine when he took off.

Mansley could knock the ball past defenders and always get to it first as could David Crown. John Docherty was quick with the ball at his feet. It's often speed of thought that counts and Neil Smillie could always make space to get a centre in which is something John Salako can still do. In the BFC Olympics Lloyd Owusu would still get the gold for me as a pure sprinter.

Julian Charles was pretty speedy as far as I can remember. Shame about his touch though.

As far as the opposition is concerned I thought Kevin Phillips was fairly quick but Louie Donowa for Birmingham in the 90's was about the fastest I can remember.
