Racism

I know "No surrender" is used by some groups who I detest, but I still think that the words to the song say nothing other than pro-English anti-IRA lyrics. since other pro-English songs (even the most basic "Come on England") are acceptable, and since I think the IRA (and UVF etc etc) are a bunch of scum who should be shot, I therefore have no objection to the song.

However, if the undesirable groups get involved and start doing Nazi salutes etc whilst singing it then as soon as I've finished singing I'll go straight into a rendition of "Nazi scum, off our streets", solo if necessary.

Sorry Guildford Bee, but that is too much of a generalisation. Sections of the white community have been and are still discriminated against.

Unfortunately what we are up against is History. Like it or loath it the past cannot be changed and what has happened is what we must use to shape the future. However, to constantly harp on about what happened 10 , 20 ,100, 200+ years ago does not really play a positive role in moving forward. Perhaps all the ancient Brits should start some form of vendetta against the Italians because of the Romans exploiting and discriminating against them 2000 years ago? Very pertinent for Brentford as old Jules Caesar crossed the Thames on our patch. Where should we stop? How far back do we go before the chip gets taken off our shoulders?

What we should be doing is moving forward positively and making sure that what happened in the past doesn't happen again. That doesn't mean justifying some action or organisation because "we" were discriminated against in the past and therefore entitled to our payback. That is the attitude of the playground.

There is no room for any form of racism or similar activities or actions in today's world. However, integration is a two way process and should not been seen as a way to practice positive discrimination.

bloody hell guys is there nothing better to talk about on here. Most of you chaps are pretty stand up people so to argue over technicalities of what is and what isn't racist is just pointless.
There are decent people and there are w***ers.
To call an asian a paki is not ok if he is a pakistani, it is a derogatary term used to insult all asians by arseholes. Everybody id predudiced in one way or another, it is human, but what counts is how deep that scar runs and whether you express it. We all have black and asian friends, but we all hate groups of young asian blokes who hang around on street corners doing eddy murphy meets ian wright impressions. But guesse what?, we also hate groups of black or white kids doing it.

The people who start these kind of chants at football matches can be of two kinds. People like ourselves having a laugh and taking it back, or people who are justs w***ers.They may not say racist things all the time because they are pretty indiscriminate with whom they want to start trouble with. It is not what is said and what is done as we all say these things from time to time, it is the mentality of the person and how much they mean it. As I said, there are w***ers around and they are a lot different to most of us as people and racism is just one of their many features.

There are many examples in history where 'white people', as you call them, have been discriminated against.

On a lesser scale in international relations terms but still very traumatic, many white families living in areas of this country which have become dominated by Asian and Afro Carribean communities have been effectively driven from their homes by what could be deemed racist behaviour. This is just as unnacceptable as if it were the other way around.

As Brentford Bob put very well:-
"Isn't it odd though that my pride is deemed as racist by so many, yet a black mans pride at his colour is deemed acceptable by those that would criticise me! A HUGE case of double standards me-thinks!"

Discrimination of any form is wrong.

Well go off and read some posts that you don't find mind-numbing. It seems from the volume of posts that this is a subject lots of people merit as being important and I don't see why you should have a problem with people airing their views (unless, of course it's the views you have a problem with).
As you seem (in your previous post) to be more interested in Rowlands being sent off at Barnet, why don't you just stick to posts that cater for those sorts of concerns?

Quite agree shaggy, but are you confusing the "hand salute" with the Nazi salute? The hand salute, although unfirtuately involving a taut arm, is a recreation of the red-hand in the flag of Ulster, hence often used when singing anti-IRA songs.

Very handy for Chrisp St market!

I've walked passed there on the way back from Bow Road tube when drunk and the DLR's stopped on a number of occasions! I use All Saints DLR most days, but live on the other side of Cotton Street.

I think you're missing the point completely. People shouldn't have to get together to "take care of themselves" among supporters of their own team. Are you saying that they should expect abuse when they come to games, and should be able to look after themselves? Sure, you expect grief from away fans but you should be able to go along and stand among your own fans and feel you can watch the game without getting abuse for who you are. This is what is stopping large numbers of people from coming to football matches in England. And as for the Cardiff crack, can't you just get over it and stop stooping to their level?

It's not in the slightest that you think all of the above posts are drivel....it's just that you are vehemently opposed to their contents. I don't think anyone would think they have a cat-in-hell's chance of getting you to see another side of the argument because you're stuck in a mindset long gone for most people on this board. i was right in that corner and i didnt hear any racist comments, it WAS just banter, but not of a racist nature, as for that kid who had a slanging match with a steward he was an idiot he was jumping up and down like he was on something (probably cider) and he was quite embarrassing, his "racist" chants were "your mum, etc" which as i say is cringeworthy but not malicious,

I was on the U5 bus today from Uxbridge and there were two black girls eating some takeaway chips. As they were getting up one of the girls dropped her empty box on the floor and continued to walk towards the door.

Then a, white, man shouted to tgem 'oi you've forgotten something' and pointed at their litter. At first I thoughtn 'good on you mate' but the girls were not expecting it and denied the litter being theirs.

So the man shouted back to them 'that's right, get off you f***ing ni****s'. Straight away a young man (late teens/early twenties) confronted him - only for the man to mock his accent and provoke him further.

The young man's friends stopped the young man attacking the smug racist at the back of the bus.

Why are some people so pathetic and arrogant? People like him should be locked away for some time! Disgusting!!!
