Rating the Referee

In previous seasons I have gone home after a match and felt frustrated, angry at the end of the match due to the ref. So why don't we give ratings of the referee after the match based on their performance?

Not sure if this is a good suggestion, but as we vote on the players for the man of the match, then why don't we rate the referee regarding their performance..

Sometimes the ref can have more impact on the game than many of the players.

I don't have the IT skills but is it possible for a poll to be setup for the supporters to vote in this way on the site?

As Brentford Supporters we would give the ref marks on their performance at the end of the match. Here are some ideas on what we could look for, some good and some bad, as I know many of you will come up with better suggestions.

Recognising the professional foul
Giving yellow/red cards correctly.
Dealing with time wasting
Protecting the attackers
Allowing the game to flow
Good use of linesman
Good use of VAR
A ref whose inconsistent decisions is always against Brentford
Unnecessarily interfering with the game.

I would love to get a fair appraisal of the referee's performance from the Brentford supporters.

Yeah, fair point. Maybe we should have a vote on this that open no earlier than 24 hours after the match :)

It's pretty simple on the rating the ref will get.

If we win. BEST REF EVER ! ?
if we lose. AWFUL, CORRUPT, BIASED OFFICIAL SHOULD BE SACKED OR RELEGATED TO LEAGUE ONE. ?

Peter Bankes. Three. For each blatant foul he missed at the start of the second half.

Thought the ref was decent today let a lot go

Only listened on Bees audio, but will be interesting to watch Ref watch on Sky Monday . Dermot Gallagher always a good watch.

Banks is a crap ref . Never in the game let's the game run him and Fulham refs the game with there fouls and slowing the game down by standing in front of the ball.

18 was lucky not be given a red but got away with nothing .

He was sh*t as said last season. ?

0/10

Poor today, so no different to other times I've watched him !!! And he's a FIFA ref too - not a good representation of the best we have I'd assume.

Definitely some truth in that! Probably more accurately though, it will simply be whether the referee gave us favourable decisions. For example, if he gave us a soft penalty I can't see anyone on here marking him down for it.

I know we're all supporters, but I do find the lack of objectivity when it comes to refereeing decisions very frustrating!

That ref is crap and has been every time I’ve seen him. That late decision when he pulled play back to award a free-kick in our own half was laughable. The guy‘s a clown.

Rating the Referee

When we win we all forget about the ref because they are irrelevant.

But yeah todays was a Homer! No control.

How many times does Toney take a push in the back when a long ball is launched just like vs manure and nothing gets given because defender knows they cannot compete so fouls early to gain advantage. Watch it next game at home v Everton you’ll see.

Utter w*nk. Throw in Stockley and it’s a full house of dog sh*t. Assault on Mee, two footed challenges unpunished, stopped play without playing advantage and iir an offside in the second half which he made Raya take three times. Slowed play down and let those pri**s get away with most things. Ball went out of play in the first half.....no throw in to the bees....play on. Incredible.

............yep...........the feet up lunge on Aaron, and the assault on Mee.................
Proper league one and two stuff loved it myself

That's a bit of an oxymoron. You thought the referee was decent because he failed to apply the rules of the game and do the job he was paid to do.....

I thought he was abysmal. His match management was poor, soft on dangerous tackles and allowed Fulham to slow and disrupt the game as they wished. Yes of course my opinion is biased but not as biased as the muppet Bankes decision making today.

Thought the VAR ref was much worse denying Toney

This guy we had today is the worst ref in the league imo. Hopefully we wont see him again soon.

Probably cos he's only about 30 years old & can't have played the game at any level. Instead of fast tracking kids through the system they should consider training ex players.

Always strikes me as a weak ref - think someone mentioned, he didn't control the game, the game controlled him...

I thought we’d seen the back of these forensic-like, millimetre VAR decisions until yesterday but apparently not.

You don't need to be a player to be a ref just know the laws of the game

I agree but it's one thing knowing the laws of the game but completely different applying them in game situations which too many refs seem incapable of nowadays.

I thought the emphasis this season was to keep the ball in play extending game time, (that's why balls are placed around the touchline) - so why did he pull back nearly every free kick instead of advantage bar one, allow them to stand over free kicks delaying playing it quickly, give keeper no warning for time-wasting after 55minutes & kick the ball away at every opportunity, Poor performance is an under-statement.

Rating the Referee

Something that did occur to me yesterday regarding playing time was the amount of times a 'dead play' period happened i.e. it's pretty clear that it's offside yet the linesman delays putting his flag up until the ball goes out. It seems to be happening more frequently and all of these little things are adding up to a 45 minute half feeling increasingly condensed.

376/1000 today.
Too slow with Yellow cards (why wasn't Gordon booked for his rugby tackle?)
Missed opportunities to play advantage.
Absolute shocker regarding Pickford time wasting.

Rating the Referee

Even the neutrals I took to the game today said he was very poor! Picked us up at a glance for any minor, didn’t bother with them. Booked Wissa first in game when he hadn’t been involved at all whilst Gordon n Iwobi had multiples, bizarre. What was he doing 2nd half when we were on a breakaway and he pulled it back for free kick to us, they then kicked ball away and he laughed n joked with them! I dunno he just seemed a stiff FA muppet today

Rating the Referee

2/10. Absolute dogsh**. To not give advantage once is criminal, to not give it twice is unforgivably inept. Never mind his abject failure to deal with their time wasting. The standard of refereeing is pitiful.

Rating the Referee

Always find it frustrating to book a goalkeeper so late on in game as don’t think I’ve ever seen a goalkeeper get a second yellow for time wasting after that.

Saying that and maybe someone can correct me has any GK ever been sent off for a 2nd yellow time wasting if booked at any point in game?

Rating the Referee

I’m wondering if second season syndrome is really a thing after today’s referee giving such a poor performance. He was shocking.

Rating the Referee

He was absolute dog s**t today. Doesn’t deserve his fee.

No-one, including goalkeepers, ever gets booked for timewasting until the 80th minute, to avoid the embarrassment of them having to actually be sent off for it. While I'm at it, it'd be nice if referees got a grip on how long goal celebrations are taking. Take a bow, Mr John Brooks, you were rubbish today, weak as water.
