reading through some old threads...

On going through the threads I found that there were a number of comments made by different people at different times which suggested a doubt in their minds about what were described as the "new type" of fans involved at BU.

Some even went so far as to question whether some were Brentford fans at all.

I just wondered if this was a widely held view, particularly amongst long standing fans or whether such comments are posted out of anger / frustration in the heat of the moment?

Any comments?

We've always been plagued with glory hunters.

I always raise an eyebrow when people appear out of nowhere and then claim to be Brentford "through and through". Is this what you mean Jimbo?

I have the same thoughts and I reckon that its a healthy attitude, as well as pretty reasonable when we remember our recent history (e.g. Swaisland's dog!)

The reason I started this thread was that in older posts some GPG'rs had aired specific concerns in this area about unnamed people within BU - the supporters own organisation! It seems pretty vital that fans feel they are being represented by their own, surely?

I wanted to see how widespread (or not) this doubt is amongst longer serving supporters.

My own thoughts are that if someone fancies getting involved in BU, good luck to them. To be honest I want people who can do the best job for the club at the top and who they support is secondary.

However, I have been coming to GP a fair few years home and away and I do like it when I recognise those involved as the same ones I have seen at Crewe or Grimsby or on an M1 service station somewhere in the midlands one wet Tuesday night.

I'm not sure many of the current BU board are recent to the BFC fan base.
Some may not take in every or indeed many away games over many years but that does that really matter?
So are you aiming at any one particular individual?

What links are you referring to Jimbo?

You just have all types of different supporters, they're all supporters and important to the club. I've only started posting on here recently but had a season ticket for around the last 15 years, some seasons I've had to miss due to personal life. I go to most local away games and some important away games far away. I have no interest in getting heavily involved with BU, but will donate money and also do my best to raise money for the club by buying things from the club shop instead of high street shops. As long as the people in charge look after the club it's not my worry, I'll just keep supporting the name of Brentford and the people who work hard to keep it alive.

It's dangerous to have a clique of 'important supporters" as this can make others feel not welcome. I can see straight away my opinons on here aren't as valued as the posters who have been here the longest, doesn't mean I'm a worse supporter.

All the supporters who feel they are the more valued ones should be very welcoming to any person who shows an interest in Brentford if it's an honest one. We have to do our bit and encourage more people to come and get involved, it only benefits the club. Over the years I've taken lots of new people along to the games and most still go along now, they maybe not season ticket holders but they still come on occasions.

Fan snobbery is only bad for the club and questioning other peoples supporting value is stupid. The worst thing that could happen is Brentford not being a welcoming club and being a bit inward at the top with the supporters.
