Leeds next season will be great. One of six teams I've never seen us play and it might take a while before I can tick off Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, and Man U, still regret not going to Old Trafford for the league cup tie in the 70s. Coventry City are the other side and they could be along soon. We are doing enough at the moment and I think we'll get better as the season goes on.

Was anybody else partly disappointed coming away from GP on Boxing Day?
Yes, we played a bit of football in the absence of Elder, & yes I know we're clear in 2nd place with a game in hand, kept a clean sheet, etc,etc.

However, i still felt it was an opportunity missed with a big away game to follow today. We could have gone for a morale-boosting big win and improved the goal difference as we're still down the bottom of the division in terms of shooting stats. Alternatively, the chance was there to give a 2nd half rest to the likes of Charlie, & some pitch time to Poole, Johnson and/or Halls, all coming back after injury. In the event we did neither, Scannell being the only sub made. AS is not in the Barry Fry mould when it comes to subs.

but very high up in the goal difference stats - perhaps our defence is doing its job?

Easy to say after the match but Manager's rarely make voluntary substitutions at 2-0 up with half hour or so to play. If it all went pear shaped whilst the team was re-organising then it would have a thread to itself titled 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'. How many matches have we all been to where we are leading 2-0 and strolling, suddenly concede in the 87th minute and are then hanging on for dear life through injury time and where a comfortable afternoon is turned into a 'blow up ref' nailbiter. I thought that we played well within ourselves in the second half and won the match pulling up. I also seem to be the only one who thought that it was very solid management that the team were instructed to play 'keep ball' down by the corner flags in a competitive match already won rather than at the training ground and to practice a tactic that is adopted by every team to varying degrees of success but in a match of our choosing rather than being dictated by circumstances.

In my mind a very poorly carried out instruction from the management then, as the first time we tried it no one told the centre halfs who both went up and once we - inevitibly - lost possession from a poor attempt to play in the corner, were very out of position as Bournemouth broke forward, It didnt work. Yet minutes later we were trying it again.

Might as well recruit John Beck from Histon if we are going to practice this sort of thing as at least he would do it properly with only three players in the opposition half, not eight.

We can all see why he did it but we had a team at 2-0 who were crap but had most of the ball in the 2nd half. My thoughts were that we did it as we were all sh*tting ourselves as we were struggling to keep the ball and standing on it in the corner was our best option. Thumbs up to Bean, he's on a hatrick but still puts team gory above his own but deep down I always want to go for a 3rd or maybe a 4th goal. Gloves off, it was sh*t and made me cringe and I spent the next 9 minutes shouting "In the corners Brentford" every time we got the ball.

Thanks for making my point. If it needs work then better a Bournemouth situation where the tackles, pushing and shirt tugging are for real. Northampton Bee posts that he will be happy if we waste time at Exeter as long as we get three points and I agree with him. I thought that this is what my post was all about.........better to get the mistakes and instruction signals ironed out 2-0 up against B'mouth than 1-0 up at Exeter.

Worries me that professional footballers, who train all week, need signals from the bench and cant work it out for themselves. I'd be disappointed if my girls team couldn't switch on to this one.

For the last few seasons - going back to MA era - there has been far to much looking towards the bench from our players who seem to be scared to make their own decisions or when they do make the wrong ones - a contrast to Coppell's side who seemed to think for themsleves or at least remember instructions for ninety minutes without having to check. AS even seemd to hint at this regarding the crosses early on and having to talk to Sam Wood.

Hope they all got DS brain training for Christmas.

I suggest that you shouldn't be that worried. It's not just Brentford and it happens right to the top of the Premiership. Most managers now are on the touchline giving instructions both verbal and with hand signals.

The performance on Boxing Day was well below par, but it didn't need to be that good as Bournemouth were sh!te, I think it shows how poor this division is and we really need to get out of it this season, with all those big games to look forward too next season.
