Am I right in thinking that we've only had 1 red card this season? Also we don't seem to be picking up as many yellow cards either.
If so, this must be one of our best seasons in terms of discipline for a while. (anybody got any stats to back this up?)

Another plus point for Uwe??

( i guess we'll have 2 sent off at Yeovil tomorrow now, like we did a couple of seasons ago.........)

Yep pretty good discipline this season I am sure Matthew Benham will be pleased with a league one fair play award as a return on his investment :)

Is Uwe a into discipline or is it just that he recruits whimps?

We've had a few sent off against us... about 3 to my instant memory. and I don't think we've won either games.

At point of sending off:
Col at home = Were ahead and drew.

Scun at home = Were level and drew.

Bury away = Were ahead and drew.

What other ones are there?

But being top of the fair play league is something to be proud of.

But were not top... in fact were third!! Chesterfield lead with 27 yellow and no red cards... bournemouth are second with 39 yellows and 1 red card, with us on 40 yellows and 1 red...

Funny enough, our opponents this weekend have the worst record with 60 yellow and 6 red...

McCormack always knows what he's doing...I've never worried about him getting a red card. He'll get a yellow, then go a bit further so he's basically on orange, and then stop.

Call it controlled game disruptions :cool:

Usually, I'd agree (and the statistics back your statement up -3 fouls, 3 yellow cards), but the one against Leeds he was done by a little bit of skill. He had no control. He was late. Nothing deliberate, but he caught the player, just below the knee, with his studs up. Was worthy of a red.

Would definitely have been a red, had it happened at Elland rd. :thetruth:

The rest of the squad seem to be learning. I can recall Harlee, Kerschbaumer and Vibe blatantly 'taking one for the team' this season (I'm sure others have, too), when the opposition were counter-attacking. :hat:

Agree Billy, we seem to be getting more cynical or professional, call it what you like but prepared to take one for the team, I can recall Harlee, Woodsy, Maxi and Vibe tripping or taking out players carrying the ball forward at pace. We need to share it about a bit and also recall far too many occasions when we have allowed the oppo to run with the ball at feet for far too long without a robust challenge, the Barnsley winger Kent had a field day at GP, Dwight Gayle as good as he is should have been bundled into the hoardings long before he was able to carry the ball 60 odd yards down the Braemar touchline before he scored.
Not advocating Dougie or Macca tactics but we need to dabble in the dark arts on occasions and bear our teeth when needed.

I don't want to see that at all. I want to see skillful players being allowed to express themselves. What's the point of sport if cheating brings reward?

In any case, in the modern game, this sort of tactic brings little if any reward. You get a yellow these days for any deliberate foul and those yellows mount up so that you lose important players later in the season to suspension. Much better, and much more professional, to close the opposition player down and press them (legally).

Players like Woods and Yennaris don't go round taking out opponents and they seem to be doing well enough. In fact, as a team, we have played well this season without using these cynical tactics. Let's not start now.

But Woodsy and Yennaris have been been taking out opponents on occasions this season, hence why Woodsy got a ban and Yennaris upset the racist on the Braemar touchline. Much as I like the Corinthian spirt and a Wilson type attitude to sport, it's a highly competitive business, hence why forwards fall over easily when tackled to win penalties. If you think we can make the Premier league by refusing to be anything less than 100% honest(naïve) you're not as smart as I gave you credit for. Dirty Leeds or cheating Boro no, a little more streetwise yes please!

Nothing wrong with taking a yellow for the team, that could be the difference between conceding or not. We have got better at it over the season, Romaine tried to break up a counter attack on Monday, albeit he didn't connect with the Barnsley player but I liked the fact that the intention was there.

I suppose a lot of people would call me naïve. I was expecting that! And I accept that there will be pushing and shoving in the box at corners and suchlike. Football is after all a physical sport. But cheating is not for me. Deliberately taking out opponents, diving to win free kicks and penalties, haranguing the referee and all those "dark arts" - well I can live without that. What is the point? What satisfaction would there be in winning promotion to the PL knowing that we'd cheated our way there? We effectively be cheating ourselves.

You won't be surprised to her that I favour very strong sanctions against all these sorts of offences. Dissent, for example, should warrant an instant red card and three match ban. Over the years the game has become much tougher on deliberate fouls - just look at videos of matches in the 70s and 80s to see how much tougher - but it needs to just go the last mile.

I know that most people aren't going to agree with me (until one of our own gets chopped down of course!). But if you'd asked people in the 70s whether the game needed cleaning up you'd probably have got a negative response then. But look at how much more attractive the game is now.
