does anyone think it's going to be a battle to stay up this season?

I don't post about the team much anymore as I can't stand the gpg police who are against anyone who isnt 100% behind the new beginnings but I've been to 3 games and we've been poor in all of them.

by all accounts the last two games have been more positive but the league table doesn't lie.injuries haven't helped but as they're all out for the long term I fear when they come back and take time to get sharp we'll already be rooted down the bottom

next three games are vital and 7 points is the absolute minimum required

We've played Boro & Burnley away, a Reading team hitting peak form (put 5 past Ipswich but lost with 10 men v Derby), drew with Ipswich at home and beat Brizzle 4-2 away. Don't count the Oxford game as that was a freak show with a changed 11.

Another indicator is looking at last season's players. Toumani was very good at Leeds, and Boro fans said he was our MOM. Judgey is getting back to his best. Tarks was MOM at Leeds. Bidders is as sold as ever. Harlee looks bang up for it. Macca is working his nuts off. Shows that they're buying into Marinus.

And today's prize for the most premature panic of the season goes to.... I think we may be heading for the lower half of the table (no club is going to thrive with that many injuries), but we've enough quality to be safe. Let's not forget we lost 4-0 at Boro around the same time last season, and our early season results then were boosted by having Blackpool and Rotherham in the first 6

By my reckoning we are missing Bjelland, Tarks, Jota and McEachran who would be likely starters; McLeod, Hoffman and Hogan, who would be pressing for the bench at least; and Saunders, Tebar and Yennaris, who would add depth to the squad. Hopefully we'll have a couple of them available very soon and 2-3 more in a few weeks.

P.S. As a blind MB discipline I would argue that the league table does sometimes lie. I remember being top under Wally Downes early that season and thinking how is this pile if poo top? The poo eventually sank towards the bottom of the pan!

I cannot believe you have started this thread after just 6 games, you obviously have no faith in MB and the team. This season has been harder than last season for many reasons, you just need to give it a bit more time. This is a tough league and maybe we were spoilt last season so expectations were high, but I think most posters on here understand the situation, and apply common sense. Over time we will succeed in our ultimate aim but there will be some dips along the way. During this time the team needs our full support, not to say individuals cannot air their views but posts about relegation after just 6 games are just way off, and pointless.

Well said, the GPG police indeed, it's another slur against anyone who wants to get behind the team and management IMO, none of us know or knew how this season was going to turn out by most of us are going to give it a whirl, a 3-1 defeat to Boro isn't going to change that, it's easy to support us when things are going well, not do easy when it's a bit bumpy, do what you want and enjoy being part of the crybaby police, that's as daft as I go, I hate all these brigades, police groups that manufactured to help your point, hanworth is not worth worrying about, some of the others taking his line bother me, all we can do is follow this through, he doesn't even go to away games which is crucial IMO, had you been at Elland Road you would have seen something to hang onto, a 3-1 defeat at Boro is expected I'm afraid.

I'm actually really surprised at you Hanworth. I know you can lean towards the glass half empty perspective but I thought you knew your football better than to be posting such rash things so early into the season.

but the fact that the Austrian international striker and the Danish international striker seem to have settled well is just one of many things that gives cause for optimism...

another way to look at it: who else is in the relegation mix? it looks like it'll be a tough one for Rotherham, and i've had a sneaking suspicion Blackburn are in big trouble for a while (i work with a Rovers fan and if you think we've not much to be optimistic about.......... it can be worse!!!). so if you say that's two of the places, then we're competing against Huddersfield, MK Dons, Preston and others for that final slot. are you seriously worried?

None of us knew but I remember a conversation with you saying the start to the season was going to be painful if we didn't win our first 8, and it's been exactly like that. People need to move on and bloody support the team and the club !!

Hanworth, feel free to revisit this thread and dig everyone out if we are still in the mire come Feb/Mar but whilst there is a chance we could be bottom three at 10 pm tonight I, for one, do not believe this is more than a brief flirtation with this end of the table.

At the beginning of the season, with everyone fit and firing I would have said top 10 and hopefully a repeat of last year's finish, with the injury gods sticking pins in us left ,right and centre I reckon anywhere between 16th and 8th is attainable

In my supporting history, we've had more years worrying about relegation than dreaming about promotion; this season is not one of the seasons to worry about relegation.

I did not make it to Middlesbrough this season after two aborted missions last but, as above, what I saw against Leeds, with a makeshift squad, gave me enough reason to think we will see an improvement in the playing style and dream about promotion again.

The second half against Ipswich, first half against Reading and even spells of the Bristol City game were as directionless performances as I've seen in a long while and that's to say nothing of the Oxford horror show.

However, I've not been at the last two games but have been hugely encouraged by what I've heard from own fans and the opposition's.

To go up to Boro with a threadbare squad, only four outfield subs and give them a good game is a positive sign. I said that we could've easily had 0 points from the first four league games so it's only fair to say it sounds as if we could easily have taken four rather than one from the last two.

Injuries or not, we need to pick up at least four points from the next three games.

2006-7 under Leroy we won 3, drew 4 and lost 0 of our first seven games. We all know what happened then.

For example, if the Brum game had gone ahead and we had won, this morning we would be lower midtable and this thread probably wouldn't exist

You also need to take into account who we've played in the first 6 games. Three teams currently occupying 2nd, 3rd and 5th spots, two of them away from home. Bearing in mind the circumstances we've had to endure during this turbulent period then I think the table is not currently a fair reflection of how we might do over the course of the season.

Yes our position in the league is not good but with all that has happened in the last couple of months is that surprising??? As fast as we bring players in either they or someone else gets injured, there must be the best part of a team on the injury table now

I really do despair at times at some of the comments on here, especially from long standing fans who have experienced real despair over the years. New supporters I can understand but from others,!!!

I will happily accept where we are now with players to return over many of the previous seasons in the dark days of supporting Brentford

How many points did anyone expect from Burnley, Bristol, Leeds and Boro away? I hoped for 5 and we got 4. You'd have hoped for 6 at home to Ipswich and Reading but taken 4. So with worst case injuries and transfers in August, we're realistically about 5-6 points off where we might have thought/hoped.

40 games to go. Cheer up folks: we'll win our next 3 and we'll be mighty close to play-offs.

Basically they took there chances.
Second half I thought we where the better team.

We have played 3 of the hardest teams to beat away up North. Not many teams will win at Burnley and Boro this season.

Exactly what most people expected to happen. Having as good a season as we did alerted other clubs to our talented players and they came knocking with transfer fees and wages that made it impossible to refuse. Then something happened which nobody expected, several of our hugely promising replacements got injured, some for long periods. And then a few more got injured just for good measure. You can talk about all sorts of other factors but tbh, they're all currently superfluous when compared to this.
