Brentford Football Club, following discussions with BIAS, are looking to mark the first home game of each new year by remembering those who passed away in the previous twelve months.

In the Walsall matchday programme on Saturday 14th January, there will be a REMEMBRANCE PAGE dedicated to those who passed away during the past year and supporters are invited to send the names of those they lost for inclusion on this page. We will simply be recording their names.

Please address your emails with the name/s of those you wish to be included to [email protected] simply marking the subject as REMEMBRANCE 2011.

Be easy enough to set up a sticky in the appropriate forum wouldn't it? Mods?

its been mentioned off and on by the GPG for several years, I believe other fans sites have a similar thing.

Also the difference is it sounds like the club programme is a one off thing once a year whereas a thread on the GPG can be a constant organic unfortunately growing thing.

It doesnt just have to be last year, it can be from several years back if people feel the is someone they would like remembered. Bernie is one such example. We can still have people with their own RIP thread but this sticky would be a nice record of bees fans

The club does offer it's condolences in every home programme when it is notified of a supporters passing. The club want to have a designated match, at the beginning of the new year, to remember those that have passed away the previous one. The GPG could assist with a thread of its own. Plus it could, possibly, be able to look back and move all the previous RIP threads, to Bees supporters, in the same forum.

Its a lovely idea. When you see the various montage tributes on TV programmes and websites at the end of the year looking at those who passed away i find that very poignant. I cant see any reason why the club and GPG cant work this in conjunction with each other. It will be somethnig for the fans by the fans and paying tribute to those passed on either here on the GPG or at the beginning of the year in the matchday programme can only be a good thing. Well done all.

Who knows, maybe even a list of names of those who have passed could be read out at half time in the first game (although the PA system can be fairly muffled). But a good idea all round definitely.

The thing about a remembrance page in a programme is that it is like raising a glass to a departed friend, it's a momentary act of remembrance. It's a nice idea. Similarly there have been a number of touching threads on the passing of bfc fans that have popped up on the gpg, in fact Bernies was the first thread I ever felt compelled to post on. However I find the idea of some sort of permanent stickied thread for the dead as being a bit scouse and mawkish. The GPG does its bit naturally already in my opinion, no need for a memorial forum.

ALso i think having tributes in one area of the GPG is good as it will encourage more supporters to pass on notices and also to share memories of the Bees that those who have passed on....well...er...passed on. I'm after a thread vaguely like this below, obviously all totally fictional below, with a small couple of points about the person submitted by whoever contcted the mod and ideally with a picture ....

It would be a sticky so no ordinary GPGers could add to it, and at the top it would say something like 'If you would like a recently passed away Bees fan to be remembered please pm Banana/Le or whoever with a couple of lines about the person in question' The mod would then add to the thead when they received it.

The ongoing threads would still exist ie BErnieRobJohnston etc where people could give their own personal recollections but this would simply be a nice way to have an easily accessible constant reminder about Bees fans who are no more, without them being lost in the mists of time.

Post 1 Dave Smith (Photo) 1936-2009 Fan for over 40 years stood on ealing road. Always worse a long red scarf. Had to leave one match at half time as first child went into labour

Post 2 Richard Jenkins (photo)1974-2007: travelled home and away, used to go to every match with his Dad

Post 3 Sarah Watkins (photo) 1960-2010: Former head of supporters association, favourite player Terry Evans.

We're looking at something similar to this but we are limited in the presentation by the software a little.

Excellent initiative by BFC and BIAS. Well done to both.

Whilst I like some of the ideas posted about a GPG page, I would still much prefer to see a dedicated walk of remembrance at Griffin Park. The Bees United initiative of the last decade, that resulted in 'the wall' now on display in the Braemar Road forecourt, was not restricted to remembrance. It also seemed to lose momentum once the format of the Bees United Board changed and the goal of fund raising (for the sake of fund raising as opposed to what the board member could offer to BFC) lessened.

I am sure that we all have friends, now departed, with whom we had travelled the length and breadth of the country over many years in our support of the Bees. A dedicated wall at GP would be a fitting tribute to them and the many hours they spent giving their all for the Bees.

I think the club's initiative is a great one.

This is a fantastic idea from the club and a wonderful tribute to deceased fans and their families - I imagine that it wont be long before other clubs begin to consider similar schemes.
