Removal Lorry

from my pre teen days in the late 70's I can remember Brenford supporters travelling to away games in the back of a removal lorry.

has any body any tales to tell?

No tales to tell, but I remember hearing stories about this mode of transport. In the version I heard, the blokes who travelled in the lorry called themselves the Mentals, and rarely got to a match on time because they stopped at every pub on the way. I was ten, and was told this by a 13 year old, so I'm sure the details can't be right. However, this image of the Brentford Mentals gave me a bit more pride in the club at school amongst QPR/Chelsea/Arsenal fans.

spanner is stil around and have been told many of stories mainly about col u away and watford .my dad loves telling me about the good old days as he puts it.he once told me a story that they all pulled into a service station and aload of man u fans were playing up and harrasing all the londoners so they chased them all over the service station til they got bck to there mini bus and went bck to manc land up the bees

does anyone remember a bloke called Wally ? He was a big ginger haired bloke, a right lad, when i was a kid while waiting to go through the Royal Oak turnstiles, he came out of the pub and scaled the chain link fence, over the barbed wire, then jumped down into the ground. I also remember him being removed by about 3 ob at Walsall, the last time i saw him was on the connecting train to Huddersfield sometime in the 80's, we were all spotty teenagers and his mate was dishing cans of lager out to us................great days.

I remember a big ginger-haired geezer - I think he used to knock about with Milkman and that mob. Seem to remember him wearing a brown sheepskin when they were 'a la mode'!

talking about sheepskins - remember when fulham tried to take the oak in 82 - loads of black geezers in their mob, mostly in sheepskins - slightly stood out from the usual contingent at the back !!
oh, and for the youngsters who werent there , the battle raged for 10 mins with both sides giving no quarter, bees just about moved them along due to increasing numbers but fair play to the scum that day as this was their best mob ever to visit GP - its official !!

I remember a big 'set to' in the Oak with the scum that sounds like your description Voice but I thought it was more like 1980 or perhaps 81. The 2 mobs were separated by a line of O/B after the biggest scrap I had ever witnessed in our glorious end.

I remember going in to school on the Monday and talking about nothing else all day!

pretty sure it was 82, although might be 81 - it was the season they went up and beat us at GP 1-0 - late goal if memory serves me right !!
it was a truely massive ruck with about 100 bees against 50-70 foolham and it took 10 mins for the ob to actually put a stop to it!

the one before that in 79 at GP, when we lost 3-1 was with the same number of scum getting in to the corner nearest the new rd but bees numbers that day were massive with around 300 rucking them all the way down to the bottom and fooham had to jump on to the pitch and walk round to the away end in bitter defeat - always remember that one !!
the same season we played them away in the fa cup 2nd rd and lost again ! but we had a massive mob in the away end that gave the 20 or so foolham skins who were at the back by the bar (yes - thats BAR to all the youngsters, you could even have a drink during the game!!)a right kicking - still they deserved it for having the cheek to be in the away end eh?!!

apparently after the game we didnt fair so well and history has it that WE took a bit of a kicking - some you win, some you lose!!

thats why i find it hard to see what all the fuss with qpr is all about when you have this sort of history with those cottagers of no fixed abode - always to me, will be the number one rival, closely followed by watford and then reading - makes sense doesnt it??!!

Rudolph can remember a mob of Fulham in the Oak and between them and the mentals was an old boy standing firm, telling anyone who cared to listen, "I've stood here 20 years and no hooligan is gonna stop me standing here today." Hero or nutter. Rudolph thought he was a hero, particularly after the big ruck Mr Voice mentions occured he was still there, unscaythed amongst old bill and co. Great days!
