Respect Campaign

Football League back FA 'Respect' programme

Respect is set to be the key word this coming season, as The Football League gives its support to the FA's latest initiative.

From the big kick-off on August 9th the aim is to improve behaviour both on and around the pitch and, in particular, demonstrate a commitment towards greater respect for match officials.

The Respect campaign is being supported throughout the game and has the backing of The Football League, the Premier League, the Football Conference, the PFA and the LMA and for you the fans the most noticeable aspect will come before each and every kick-off.

The League has agreed to adopt the pre-match 'Fair Play' handshake procedure which has become standard at International, European and Premier League matches for a number of years.

The 'Fair Play' handshake will be part of every single pre-match ceremony for all first team competitive matches - Football League, FA Cup, Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Another change will see substitutes warming up on the opposite side of the touchline to the assistant referee, rather than the same side.

wokings players have signed up to something like this

Righto.

Can someone remind John Terry et al when there doing their macho posturing and calling the ref a "fcking prck" routine?

I hope this doesn't extend to us :nono:
It's been a staple part of the game for me and I'd miss chatting to the lino throughout the game.

WTF is a "fair play handshake"? Is it like the Freemasons?

I assume the 4th official will be on the New Road side at GP. How do subs warming up impede the 4th official anyway? Surely they're more hassle when sitting behind him on the bench.

Respect Campaign

The "assistant referee" is the linesman, not the 4th official.

There is an assistant referee on both sides. I assume that they mean the other side of the halfway line.

Respect Campaign

If the match officials are sh*te and make mistakes they'll get flack. And rightly so too.

I think its sad that club traditions are gonna be lost with all teams coming out of the tunnel to the tune of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. (Aretha Franklin).

Everton is the Z Cars music, real shame to lose this, even if it is for 1 season only :(

Given the failure of appeal against Elder's red card leading to a further 4 match ban and other shocking decisions this season, particularly the corresponding fixture and a decision by the FA's other up-and-coming darling Michael Oliver to award that penalty against Glenn Poole, I think enough is now enough.

We should not stand idly by and allow the Respect campaign to ruin the pre-match atmosphere by having the players trudge slowly out crocodile-fashion and have to hear some pious rhetoric about respect towards men whose performance has not improved during the duration of the campaign. Respect is to be earned, not forced upon paying customers.

Therefore, I propose a disrespect campaign in response. When the players and ourselves are forced to go through this rigmarole, we should either boo or chant "what a load of rubbish" until this needless formality is completed, then cheer our boys as usual as they run properly onto the pitch.

The club may be duty-bound to promote various FA initiatives, but that doesn't mean the fans are.

:bound: some proper hate seems to be in order

Respect Campaign

In my old fashion way, I believe that respect has to be earned, not demanded

(never thought I'd agree to that but the recent Attwelliesque shenanagins have severely kyboshed my usual sense of fair-play.......) Expect some vitriol from New Road

tw*ttwell should show some R.E.S.P.E.C.T. and get a job that he can bloody well do. He should be ashamed to take the money.

Respect Campaign

Any idea where he is today?

I'm sure we would have plenty of volunteers to assist Mr Attwell with his transgender operation and thereby save the NHS a load of money :sorted:

Now where are those rusty pliers? :)
