They're a Premier League team (for now) and we're a mid-table League One team. I would've thought that would explain it.

I guess if you approach enough PL teams for a striker then one of them will crack and send one, either this season or next. Still wondering how McDons got Smith, has he played yet?

Im happy with the progress in this search as the players we are trying to get ok arnt premiership first 11 players but theyre experienced and I find it encouraging that we are looking at the likes of wilbraham and hulse. To me it shows real intent and that we havnt given up on this season. I know we are only enquiring but at least the club is trying and if it dosnt come off then at least theyve gone for it rather than just rushing german in to first team action or using hacker/norris.

Most of the players of this ilk will not be playing in the Premier League next season and will be looking at Championship (or other Championship, if they're already there) and ambitious L1 clubs. Having a centre forward with real physical presence and experience is an essential component of our type of team, as it is to have in midfield and central defence. We've really missed O'Connor, IMHO, and, while we have Douglas in the middle, our defence at the back has performed like schoolboys on occasions.

Must be earning a fortune and how match fit is he as I don't think he has played for months.

We need to find someone who can come in and produce at once.

A fit Hulse would be frightening at our level but I can't see it happening

Didn't Hulse cause cause some trouble with Brentford fans at Crewe the other year with a few being chucked out,I remember us waiting outside Crewe nick for VFTB to be released but they didn't let him go till we had well gone.

No, I would rather retain my fond memories of Nathan than watch him again now trying to make his way back as a league footballer and having a very tough time of it

He hasn't appeared regularly in the Premiership since 2007 with Sheff Utd. Hughes used him as a sub at Aston Villa, but that's his only recent appearance.
QPR wanted to reduce their wage bill/squad size by loaning out players, but I reckon Hughes is sh*tting himself now about relegation (and they have a tougher run-in than the other sides near the bottom), so he's keeping Hulse there in case. He's not a Premiership level player anymore, if he ever really was.

That may be related to an incident at GP when he dived and won a penalty for Crewe.

IIRC correctly, it was a game up at Crewe where his cheating antics almost caused a riot.

He's had that about him throughout his career, always willing to go down. I recall similar controversies happening when he was at Derby and Leeds.

Do we really need him? If we were to get another striker i'd rather it be a young pacy loanee with a point to prove. Eg. Players like Schluup and Berahino.

I imagine this is old news recycled - unlike a red-top to do that - as we have Hayes. As said above, it's a speedy forward we need to complement El Alagui or Hayes.
