Rumour has it that BFC have expressed a definite interest in signing Rory Fallon from Barnsley for a fee of approx £30,000.

Well it's a better way of spending some cash instead of paying non-league clubs for doing nothing! :)

It sounds promising. Who is he anyway?

Capped by England U21 Rory is another product of the club's excellent Academy set up. The youngster considers himself of the same mould as former Reds striker Ashley Ward whom he models his game on .

He's got 5 goal in 17 starts for them. Not bad. Ex England U18 international too. On the Barnsley site it says he is a 6'2" centre forward. He's played quite a bit for them this season.

How can we be about to go into adminstration on one hand but spend £30k on a player on the other.

Rory Fallon

Seems unlikely to me....

Unless we've already agreed a fee for someone going out.......

Just realised that I've seen him play twice. He played 90 minutes against us at GP, but I didn't really notice him as it was Betsy that caught the eye. And he came on as a sub for Bruce Dyer in their game at QPR recently (see other thread). He looked a decent centre-forward and certainly better than the player he replaced.

Rory Fallon

Haven't seen alot of him but have to agree he didn't exactly shine at GP when we played them.

I'm not sure where this money is going to come from, perhaps Forest REALLY want Mark McCammon.

Rory Fallon

An honest pro that misses sitters we've had a few of those in our time, do we really need another.

Here's an opinion on Fallon: "Big lad, will score goals but will also miss sitters all the time. Good honest lad."

Sounds familiar!!

Rory Fallon

Lanky streak of piss who has outgrown his strength.

Good in the air but seemed a bit light weight and good first touch.

Can't really see where this one has come from though.

Rory Fallon

Or where its going as we have zilch money.

Rory Fallon

30K - Not unless they're paying us it surely!!

Another striker seems a bit silly with all the potentials we have on the bench!! Will Peters ever get a chance?? If we are signing someone then surely it's because we're losing a striker??

Rory Fallon

Maybe that he should be stronger given his height. Not very built a bit lightweight, thats just my interpretation.

Rory Fallon

Maybe Ron has allowed the £50K for progressing into the next round of the FA cup to spend on player/s. It could also be that some squad member is about to leave for a price?
£30K wouldn't necessarily be paid immediately, £15K this season and the rest based on appearances etc.

Rory Fallon

if he is not good enough for crappy barnsley why do we want him?

I believe this rumour to be somewhat pandora-esque!

Rory Fallon

lol, yeah we just magically found 30k or did ron noades decide to give us money? me thinks not.

Surely it is true to say that a balance has to be struck between expenditure/income/speculation.

Most people would agree that the most likely weakness in our side that could prevent us maintaining our play off challenge is the lack of firepower. If we drop right out of the play off race our crowds will suffer by at least 1000 a game costing us around £8-£9000 evert time we play at home. An "investment" of £30,000 even in the curent financial climate doesn't sound like pushing the boat out too far, especially given the unexpected windfall income from the FA Cup.

I agree that we cant go blowing money left right and centre but by next saturday we could be out of both cups and if we don't do something to get our league form back on track it will be 4000 paying fans every week till the end of the year.

Now that really would mean administration.

Uh, haven't we been trying to get a loan striker for weeks? If we are signing someone then surely it's because are current strike force isn't good enough? Oh yes, that's true. :(

Rory Fallon

I don't think you can rule out signings altogether just cos the finances don't add up...if you can sell a player and then bring in a player who is of the same or better quality for half the price then this makes more sense than

a) keeping your player to the benefit of the team

b) selling the player without replacement

I would see it as a compromise so as not to run the club into the ground.

Rory Fallon

If the club weants to spend £30k on a player then lets loan Carlton Cole, or similar, till the end of the season.
