Personally, I'm glad to hear that Wally is trying to extend his loan for another year. He has a lot of potential and I think he'll go from strength to strength. OK, he hasn't been as successful as Burgess was here, but he's been playing in a much weaker and less experienced team.

Rowan Vine

Agreed.

Keeps a bit of stability in the side, helps the team gel a bit more. When would the signing take effect? Would Rowan play in preseason friendlies? Pompy may ask for him not to be played against them which is fair enough, but if he gets a run of 6 games in the team prior to the start of the season, that can only be good.

Rowan Vine

I cant see why Pompey wouldnt want him to play against them. Its not a competitive match and they get to have a first hand look at how he's getting on.

Rowan Vine

Some clubs tend to get a bit precious. It wouldn't do Pompy much good if he got injured in the game and if he played a blinder, would they recall him?

Not the same situation I know, but Wolves wouldn't loan Ivar to Brighton until after they played them in the league.

Rowan Vine

Surely it would be worse for us if he got injured in the game than for them? I can understand it for league games like the Ivar situation you mention but see no reason why for friendlies. I dont think there's any chance of them playing him in the Premiership no matter how well he does for us.

Rowan Vine

I guess so, If he gets loaned out to a D2 team when they are in D1, they are hardly likely to rush him into the Premiership after a season in D2.

Another season in D2 with the Bees followed by a season in D1 with the Bees and then we can argue over the Premiership in 2005/06:D

Dive for cover when B2B hears about this !

Rowan Vine

Nah bad choice really, yes he has had some really good goals, but his later season perfomances have been utter sh*te, and it has looked like he just hasn't given a monkeys arse.

Try and sign someone else wally please! :)

Rowan Vine

interstingly the article on the club web site suggests taht the friendlies have been arranged by John Griffin and Wally.

I wonder who else we might be looking at - Haven't we signed players before after the loosing side has been rewarded by a friendly game.

Rowan Vine

I'd be happy to see Vine back next year, I agree some of his performances have been offkey since we went out the cups but he has hardly been alone in that! also strikers often look poor when the team is playing badly.

He is 20, has talent and in all probability will only get better. On top of that we can obviously afford him.

I think he would also benefit from a bit pressure for his place which hopefullly Peters will give him.

Rowan Vine

i can't say i'm overjoyed by the prospect!!! but as no one else is available i suppose he'll have to do!! Would like to see Traynor get an extended run next year though!!!

Rowan Vine

I think with a full season under his belt we may see a better player next year.

He should be stronger and more consistant, we know he has ability so that should help us, and him.

However I reckon Portsmouth will want to see him at a better club, he has done the Div 2 thing, been fairly successful and been the top scorer in a team that hasn't scored many goals, and where he is the best striker at the club.

I think they'd want him to go somewhere higher.

Personally, I think Rowan is alright and I don't have the problem with his attitude and commitment that many others do, but I believe there are better players out there available for loan who we are capable fo getting.

So, let's get one of them please. :)

Rowan Vine

Would like him to stay. Thought he has done very well and can only get better.

Do not think that pompey would let him though. Also he would probably like another challenge, because he may think he has proved that he can score goals in a struggling team in this division............... and he might just be right.

Good luck to him if he leaves the mecca. I won't shed a tear, but he has done alright for us and will clap him on any future return.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :nono: :nono:

NOT good enough as an all round team player - please get a better player.....please....

Rowan Vine

i don't like him, i think he doesn't try hard enough

Rowan Vine

Admittedly I haven't been able to see him play regularly but on the occassions I have been down he hasn't stood out in anyway like others...Sonko, Paul Smith, Hunt (on occassion) and Rowlands....

:nono: I say send him back and get someone who is committed to the club!

Rowan Vine

I think he and Peters would link up well. Vine problem is he often seems to be one step ahead of the rest of the team however I think Peters is at his level. Futhermore if Rowan discovers his form from the start of the season I feel we will have a great chance of doing something next seaon.

Rowan Vine

On the official site when talking about the Pompey friendly it mentions that Wally is trying to get Rowan back again next year

I agree. He has talent but his poor work rate and attitude often limit his effectiveness. There must be better options available to us.

Like???The lad has come on loan and is our top scorer.Who know's how many more goals he would have got if he had a better partner alongside him rather than that donkey McCammon for most of the season.I hope he stays and can pair up with Peters.

Rowan Vine

Nothing wrong with defenders scoring goals, Sonko has managed 5 league goals this season. Ivar bagged 6 league goals last season.

Marky Mac (a striker), 7 league goals this season.

Got to go with WarrenBee on this, Peters and Vine up front will set the world alight next season. I can see 30+ goals between the pair.

Rowan Vine

however all those that you mention have actually played in defence!!

Marky Mac wasn't a striker really either...he was a target man...for a striker to play off and was very effective in his role the times that I watched him.

I saw Mac as a lower leagues Emile Heskey....and both players offer sides alot more that meets the eye....sure neither are gonna get you 20+ goals in a season...but put them in a strike partnership and their partner always does well!

Look at Heskey at Leicester for instance....Leicester signed Cottee who was on our books and we weren't really sure if he could do anything in the 2nd Division...however partnered with Heskey he scored 20+ goals in the premiership!

As I say I am not sure about Vine...I think the club may be best served looking at some of the players available this summer before rushing into re signing Vine.

Rowan Vine

Being realistic here.

Vine has proved he can score goals in Div 2. Even if some fans think he didn`t try hard enough.

We only have a dozen or so professional clubs to look at for cheap young loan players. Another option is a cheap and risky rough diamond from the minor leagues, but he will have to learn quick.

Vine compared to Fullarsen, Marshall, Supermarket, Hughes, Lovett, Constantine, Peters, Frenchie, is in a different league.

I have spoken to the coaching staff and management staff this season and all of them expected BFC to probably drop in form after xmas due to inexperience fatigue.

Let`s get behind him and don`t forget the FA Cup Wycombe Away performance to remember what he can do.

B2B - You are going to get a knuckle sandwich, if you carry on with your negetive aura and karma.

Vine is growing on me.

Rowan Vine

With a year under his belt and pre season to recouperate, I've got a feeling we are going to see an improved Rowan next season. 14 goals in his first season as a first teamer is excellent. I think those that say he is lazy are being a bit harsh. I find the prospect of Vine & Peters up front and Sonko & Roget at the back quite an exciting prospect! Just need a central midfielder a right sided midfielder and a couple of full backs and we are laughing! :)

Rowan Vine

I think Vines' effort dropped off once he realised there were no trophies in the offing.

The only reason I would sign him is as COVER for Mark Peters who is a FAR better prospect.

Rowan Vine

a vine-peters partnership is an exciting prospect

it's totally unproven
but given a full pre-season and a decent run of games
it might just work

and if it does it will surely be as good as any in div 2

Changed my mind think it was because I hadn't seen him for a while and was blighted by the top scorer bit. He was absolute cack yesterday and has been for some time send him back.

Rowan Vine

I still stand by what I said in an earlier post, sign the lad for another year and give him and Peters a free attacking role. They will frighten the 2nd division to death.

Rowan Vine

Can't really make my mind up about Vine. He has undoubted talent at this level, his form in the first half of the season proved that if nothing else. His form over the final third of the season has been poor- is this due to a first year pro being knackered or symptomatic of a bloke who couldn't give a monkeys? I suppose the fact that Wally apparently wishes to resign Rowan on loan next season means Wally has faith in the lad and he should be given the benefit of any doubt.

Personally speaking I would rather we looked elsewhere, he has a poor disciplinary record and even allowing for tiredness he has too often looked like he can't be arsed. However if Wally does resign him I hope he proves me wrong and scores 20+ goals. IMO Peters is a better option with a pacy target man if possible (shame they don't grow on trees):) :)
