unhappy with rowly. I know him and hes not usually like that. A nice person with a dishy bird! he lost the game for us though:sad:

Rowlands

it's getting a bit silly now isn't it?
has he got no self control at all?

Rowlands

I wasn't there today, but if what people say is true, Rowly must be ashamed of himself. If I were Wally he'd be the first player on the team sheet next week - with a view to paying back his team mates, manager and the fans for their continued support and obvious faith in his ability!! He is a quality player with a massive heart - just a shame he seems to take his frustrations out onto the pitch.

Let's not barrack him too much - he has given us far more good times to remember than bad and it would be a shame to see him leave BFC hated rather than appreciated!!

It was Rowlys' birthday today aswell:eek:

If Rowlands is so good......how come nobody has signed him yet!! I don't care if he is a nice bloke.. and has a nice bird it's what he does on the pitch that counts....if he can stay on it long enough that is, has any other Bees player been booked, suspended, or sent of so many times as him...also bloody injured... get rid of him now!!! :mad1:

Agreed.

Will have to work harder for Wally now to get into the team:sad:

Rowlands

I'm convinced we could have had all three points from the match were it not for Rowlands. Neither offence was necessary, the first appalling tackle was in the middle of the pitch. He's a fool and he can't be trusted. I wouldn't have him in the side again and it's criminal to pick him instead of someone who would give more responsible effort. The refs have his name in the book before he goes on the pitch and he gives them every reason.

Rowlands

Best player we've had for years... If you took his aggression away you'd only have half the player..

Agreed he has to calm it a bit, but I thought he was a bit unlucky today?

The reason he hasn't been signed by anyone else is because he is injury prone..would you sign him with his record of injuries?

Hound him out and say hello to a relegation dogfight...

Rowlands is CLASS... Sometimes its a shame that some of the others don't show that fight ...

I'd have his babies...

Rowlands

Rowly was unlucky that he injured the lad for the first foul. I believe the ****** who was "refereeing" the match had already made his mind up there and then with regards to the second booking, and he was waiting for the moment.

Rowly has to chill by about 10% though, if he is to realise his potential.

But leave him with his (misguided) aggression and we don't have him for most of today's game. This is not the first time Rowlands has acted in such a stupid way and I think he is rapidly doing himself out of full-time football. He was clearly off the pace today due to lack of fitness and apart from one dreadful tackle for the first booking which could have been an instant red card, he made very little positive impact on today's game.

I agree he has loads of pure football ability but he's little more than a liabliity when he behaves like a petulant child.

Rowlands

Agree that Rowlands is a class player and one we desperately need to keep.
Today he wasn't in the game. I felt he should have been playing wide.
I don't think he can complain about being sent off, it was one of the very few decisions the ref got right.

Rowlands

Firstly,I liked to say 'Happy 24th Birthday Martin'!!! (Not that it's going to be you're most memorable I'm sure.)

Secondly,I like to say I'm disgusted by some of the comments on this thread about Rowlands.

Ok, he is hot headed @ times (so am I) but @ least he shows passion and a desire to fight/win which is sometimes lacking in the Bees team when he doesn't play.

I went to the game today, unlike some of the people who've already posted, and I believe that because of previous indiscretions, his card was 'already marked' by that **** of a man in black (I'm not going to call him a ref because he didn't act like one, rather a 12th man for Crewe, it was like 12 against 10 after Martin walked).

I know in the past he has deserved to be sent off and I have been one of the first to point the finger of blame but not today. Why do Football League ref's always seem to give the benefit of the doubt to our opponents in the early stages of a game? They always get the warnings (if that) but 99.9% of the time it's a Brentford players' name that is first in the book and often that of Rowlands. Ref's nowadays seem to more and more judge on reputation of certain players rather than the incident before them? I'm personally feel that the official's performance today was disgraceful, however, I understand that @ our away fixture against Crewe (although I didn't see it for myself), the ref was worse. Right now I'm finding it hard to think of a worse man in black than today's Mr Williamson!!!!

Rowlands

he shouldnt have slid in like he did, at the end of the first half whilst already booked, its an idiotic mistake to make and one he seems to make too often, a weeks wages fine might help, and a good telling off ( ;) ). he is undoubtably talented, prob the best in our current squad, but that doesnt excuse him of what he done today

Rowlands

Rowly's one of the most skillful players to be on the books of BFC and has real talent. I'm sure too that he is sometimes signalled out unfairly by some refs. But, come-on...a bad first 'tackle' and studs in for the second - even that arse of a ref could'nt get those decisions wrong.

In reality we've not got a strike force worthy of the name and we are only 7 points away from the danger zone. We desperately need all 11 players to fight for the cause (not literally) and give their all on the pitch. At the moment sorry to say Rowly is a loose cannon.

The real problem is that he's letting our team, his team mates and himself down. I don't care how good the guy is if he aint playing he aint no good to us. I think Wally's comments on the official give some indication of the frustrations felt by a lot of people.

Rowlands

agree that today rowlands was poor and although didnt see both challenges clearly, it seems it was the right decision by what ive read on here.

rowlands however is our most talented player along with kev o connor and when hes on form will be the best player on the pitch.
he just lacked match fitness and wasnt as sharp as usual, but thats just from a long injury lay off and the fact hes only played a handful of games this season.

he will come good.

What about Hunty?

And if so many of you feel that Martin deserved to walk, why were so many booing the ref off @ half-time then?

Wally to fan applauding Rowlands off: "What the f*** are you clapping for?". Wouldn't like to have been Rowlands at half time.

:D Wally Downes....the best discovery this season! Long may he be our manager! You can understand how frustrated Martin must have been with the injuries and the departing stars. No disrespect to Dobson but perhaps Martin should have the responsibility of captain or club captain....it might just check his rashness. I know Rowly cost us points today but he's not the worse offender this season.....surely Fullarton has a worse game/sending off average ratio when compared to Martin's games played for the Club?

Rowlands

Martin is undoubtedly one of the most talented players we have. But he cost us three points today. I can't believe people are saying the bookings were harsh. The second one should have been a straight red.

Right now I don't care if I never see him play for Brentford again. We are a very good side with 11 men on the pitch, although we lack a finisher. But with 10 men against a side as good as Crewe, we didn't stand a chance. I'll probably calm down tomorrow, but right now I'm still pissed off with him.

Where does the red mist come from?

Rowlands

Rowlie has got so much potential as a player but something is definately not right with him at the moment.

We still see flashes of the brilliance we know him to be capable of but all too often over the recent past we've seen a lack of application, discipline and rumours about his attitude-today being a case in point.

He has had appalling luck with injuries true and must be frustrated to see so many of his former teamates move on to higher division clubs (but not necessarily success) but this does not excuse his sending off today which effectively cost us the game (twinned once again with pi@* poor officials). Wally's comments on the club site were spot on about the sending off.

I would love to see the Rowlie of old but perhaps the end of the love affair is nigh and it is time he moved on for the sake of his career. I hope I'm wrong.

Rowlands

Rowlands played like a creative player who'd been told to get stuck in and make some tackles, and patently made two dreadful challenges when the ball wasn't even there to be won... even a minute before he slid in... Still, when he plays well he does the business, and it was still 2-1 to the referee.

Rowlands

I think Rowly is in grave danger of either ending up in the 3rd division or even non league. His contract is up at the end of the season(i think) and based on his disciplinary and injury record we will non be renewing his contract.

Rowlands

Rowlands is not worth anything to us .
He is either injured or suspended , what good is that .
He is so hot headed and sometimes he is worse than Fullarton .
I say get rid of him and save paying him his wages but who would have him .

Rowlands

No excuses for him yesterday, but it would be madness not to try to renew his contract. If he can get himself sorted he, along with Smith and Sonko, is one of the few who can play at a higher level, or who might bring in a few quid. (I would have said the same of Dobson up to a year ago, but his injury problems of last year appear to have taken away his pace)

In the short-term we have to play him wide, where he can use his skill with relatively little risk of him getting into crazy tackles

Debbee said:

Rubbish! Two stupid tackles - he deserved to go.

Rowlands

He has done nothing this season to even justify a renewing of his contract with only 5 starts in 28 league matches.

Wally Downes even said in his programme notes earlier this season that he supposed he only had Rowlands for another 6 months which implies that the decision has already been taken.

I would guess that as an established first team footballer we probably can;t afford his wages anyway so all in all I can see no way he will be staying as after yesterday there will be little complaint.

The question is does Wally give him the chance to redeem himself at Bristol City on Tueday, a ground where he scored a magnificent goal last season (and also nearly provoked the most benign of refs Dermot Gallaher to send him off by halftime) or does he get buried on the subs bench (at best) for the rest of the season?

Rowlands

Rowlands is still a class player, but he has not rediscovered his early form for the Bees. I still think he should be played, its all the frustration, injury, instability that has taken him to the edge. As soon as he can get a run in the team he will be a changed man.
I hope.

Rowlands

Ihtink that they were both bookable offensives. Why did he do the 2nd if he was already on a yellow. He has let the team down, but if I was wally i'd let him back in the squad, as he let fullarton marshall and evans all abck in

Rowlands

He was a silly billy, but I hope he doesn't read this site because if it was me there's no way I'd want to turn out for some of you lot.

[/Q]

i have heard Qpr are preapring an offer for him. They were going to wait till the end of the season when his contract expires but are now ready to pay cash. Bad news imo.:(

Rowlands

i have to say that rowly and fullarton are my favourite current playes. but we must do something about their discipline.it would be more defendable if their tackles were vital, goal saving and in our own danger area but most of the tackles they make are needless lunges on the halfway line.

Rowlands

we cannot let rowly go for peanuts(lets be honest qpr will not offer over 100k for an injury prone player whos contract is expiring).he is worth more than that-hes a quality player who always gives 110%.i would be absolutely gutted to see him leave.

Rowlands

I just really hope that Martin is allowed to play and proves all the douters wrong.

ROWLANDS
We've got Martin Rowlands!:)

Rowlands

Rowsy will be worth precisely nothing in May. It may be harsh, but my opinion is that together with the savings on his wages, anything we can get for him now would be better for the club long term than retaining his services. As for who he goes to, I'm not fussed.

Rowlands

With all thats been said on this thread about how dissapointed we all are with Rowly, has anyone thought that the most dissapointed person may be Rowly himself?
Yes, he did deserve two yellows, yes, he cost us the points and no he probably wont be in a bees shirt next season, but IMO he doesn't deserve all the stick that some fans on this thread are giving him. IMO keep the faith, he'll come good...

i think huntys progression is down to pure graft in training and giving 150% when hes playing, but i dont think he has as much god-given talent.

if rowlands had huntys work ethic then he would be playing in a higher division than he occasionaly plays in at the moment.

Rowlands

Well said Bedfont. A lot of people have short memories and who knows if we may need him to score another memorable goal (like Reading last season) on the 3rd May 2003 to either get us into the play offs (unlikely) or avoid relegation.

He was a silly boy yesterday and nobody can defend what he did. Whether it cost us the game is arguable. We were taken apart by a classy side who were streets ahead of us on the day and frankly could have stepped up a gear at any time.

He will serve his short suspension (2 games I expect) and probably wouldnt have played one of those anyway as he's not fit enough to play twice a week and after that will hopefully be back.

I dont know if he will be around next year or not. One of his most vociferous critics who never misses an opportunity to put him down has rightly pointed out that he has only started 5 games this year and that has to be a factor in the clubs decision . Not many of those have been through suspension though and we were grateful for his contribution last year when we constantly played him when maybe he should have been rested.

I suspect he will not accept £500 pw next season and will look elsewhere but I doubt we will get anybody of similar ability in his place and I for one will miss him even if others won't.

We have a very very poor disciplinary record this season and Rowlands must take his share of the blame but he is not alone in this and crucifying him is counter productive.

Why we are so poor at tackling especially in the middle of the field is a big question. Rowlands, Fularton and Evans all tend to dive in in recklessly in a similar way and it is probably a symptom of the lack of pace in our team that dictates they play this way.

I think that alot of 'hype' follows Dario's Crewe side. They weren't that good (I feel we would have beaten them if we had 11 men, ok it would have been a hard fought victory) and were just the same as most Div 2 sides I've seen this season in that they got away with murder!

Ok, many of you blame Rowly totally but it has to be said that our players have been fouled on numerous occasions this season where the ref hasn't 'batted an eyelid'. How many times have you screamed @ the officals this season when more often that not decisions have gone against us? They definitely have something against us. Not sure why? Don't they think we have enough to cope with, having to put up with a Chairman like Noades and living on the poverty-line? They should feel sorry for us if anything!!!!

Rowlands

As the alleged "vociferous critic" of Rowlands it only comes out of frustration from watching the most talented pure footballer we have had at the club in recent years so consistently underperform and not fulfill his potential.

I take a sense of pride in watching players we have grown and nurtured at GP move on to greater things.

Look at the examples of Herman, Darren Powell, Marcus Gayle, Marcus Bent, Deano, Andy Sinton to mention but a few.

We watched them grow and develop and eventually they fled the nest for bigger and better things and I have only wanted them to succeed (apart from if they ever play against us).

Martin could and should be as great a success as all the aforementioned but for some reason whether it be temperament, poor medical advice, lack of fitness or plain bad luck he looks like he could blow it and never come close to fulfilling his massive potential.

It has been a foregone conclusion since May that he would leave at the end of this season but I want to be able to watch him play in a higher division and even on the international stage in the future and when I see his performances this season it both angers and upsets me as there is nothing more criminal than wasting a talent - just look at Tony Folan, he should be an established Premiership player now and I just don't want Martin Rowlands going the same way.

Rowlands

Agree with most things said about Martin, just a shame that it looks like his career is going down the toilet. No money around in the Nationwide and no club is going to invest in a young player with such an injury record. One comment I can't agree with is the question of referees having preconcieved views on players. That is suggesting referees research who they are in charge of. I don't think so. They have no idea who the players are in the nationwide. They turn up, upset everybody and get off the pitches as soon as they can.

I reckon they do know certain players have a 'reputation' and this is bound to influence their decisions, It's inevitable officials talk and I'm sure the referees grapevine resounds with chat like;

"So who you got this week bob?"

"Down to referee Brentford"

"Yeh did them the other week, team of hot heads. Couple of lads in the middle to watch out for Rowlands & Fullarton, keep an eye on them"

A referee would only have to have a glance at the red cards stats tables to form an 'opinion' about us. It's got to have something to do with the series of poor reffing decisions we have seen this year. :nono:
