After today's typical performance, made even worse by the dismal penalty attempt, please please can this be the end of Stephen Hunt in the starting X1, the guy just hasn;t a clue, he has one of the worst touches, has no vision, and can barely guarantee one decent cross a match - after his recent performances I can see absolutely no reason why he is first choice.

You mean the only one from the mid field that brings the ball forward? The one whose speed and determination worries defences. Yes Hunt has his faults but there again who in that team doesn't? Who would you replace him with?

Rudolph agrees with you about the penalty, a professional should at least hit the target. Didn't you get the impression he'd miss it from the point he had to pick the ball up?

It's the strike force (Ha! FORCE??????)that need replacing urgently, banjo and cow's whatsit spring to Rudolph's mind!

Hunt's a good bloke, leave off him, his confidence will soon return, and only a blind man would be unable to see the differance between P'boro without the Mac, and today with him.

Patience compadres, this team will lose as many as they win, but need our support more in the hard times.

I always think Steve Hunt really tries hard, which is the most you can ask of anyone, and he is the only person who plays the ball forward, and he has scored a few penalties. Without him you could say we would be rock bottom of the division.

No worse than the current incumbent, dare I say? Several of our team are struggling at the moment, not just those who are new or on the fringe last season. Get behind them and they'll deliver.

The difference between Hunt this season and last season is the players around him. When he does anything decent there are no players anywhere near him. He has his limitations and is slight, but with good players around him he could be decent. Eddie Hutchinson on the other hand...

Well its a game of opinions....for what its worth I feel he's done OK this year, can't agree about his touch seems reasonable to me and he got a few decent crosses in, though not as good as Dobbo perhaps. He works hard and has pretty good pace, something which oppo teams don't like.

Agree that his positional sense is sometimes poor and he ends up leaving gaps, notice how Ijah has a right go at him over it.

But wen he and Mac went off we were definately weaker as a team, something in hindsight I wonder if Wally should have done.

I think you're being more than a little harsh on Hunty, I think he's been one of our better players this season. At least he's always up for it 100% and he's one of the few players we've got who can actually run at and beat defenders. If he could be more consistent with his crossing and perhaps be a little more aware of where his teammates are then he could be a very good player for us..

Perhaps I'm expecting too much but I think Hunt has underperformed this year.
I believe he looses the ball too often and is often out of position, his crossing is also letting him down.
I believe in the guy's ability and I think he will come right but perhaps needs a rest or maybe a kick up the arse to get himself going.

Saturday wasn't his best day, but don't crucify teh guy for it. Virtually the whole team under performed.

His touch is erratic, but generally good. He put a ball through to Mac, that if it hadn't hit Mac on the back, would have put Mac through with only the keeper to beat. That ball would probably have made him man of the match.

Against Wycombe, he had a storming game and against Luton when he was subbed. Even from the bench, he was giving it his all.

Last season it was Marky Mac that was singled out, now is it going to be Hunty this season?

If we are looking to point the finger after Saturdays mediocre performance there are several others who should also be bought into the witch hunt (no pun intended).

Steve Hunt's my hero, leave him alone! If you ask me he's sweated blood for the team this season, yeah he's got his faults but I think he's looked bl00dy lively this year in a team that has looked otherwise short of options going forward.

Oh & face it, we were never going to score every penalty we won this season, everyone misses sooner or later, am I alone in thinking he hit the post? All the write-ups say he missed altogether????

there have been a number of games where hunty has been our spark, and as has been said, who the **** would you stick in instead of him.

he's well capable of his mares (anyone remember scunthorpe in the cup last year! ) but he's one of our better players and only young - gotta wonder about some fans!

someone mentions Eddie Hutch - is it just me, or does he always seem none-too-fussed about where the ball is exactly? he does loves his crunching tackles!! can't say i can remember seeing him pass the ball... ever! (actually, sounds just like david beckham... )

oh, as a matter of priority, hunty should be taken away after training every day for the next week/month/year and made to cross a zillion balls until HE BLOODY WORKS OUT HOW TO DO IT!!! the amount of good positions he wastes, he's got the tricks but can't deliver - wait, now i'm making hunt sound like Chelsea's Jesper Gronkjaer, have we got a team of superstars or what!!

Agree with what's been said above: he's one of our better players, and the amount of times he's had an influential game must surely outweigh the odd stinker.

Also agree with the above in that it's odd to be criticising Hunty when Hutch is in the team...

As mentioned before, hunt is disasterous when it comes to crossing or set pieces and the penalty miss was obviously going to happen. However he is the only player that bombs forward and causes problems which is better than stephen evans receiving the ball wide, stopping, looking up, squaring it or hitting it in the channel for the forwards. What makes people think evans will take people on..he is too slow compared to hunt.

Macca contribution is similar to hunt...his finishing and control not the best but he adds plenty with his aggression and workrate which puts pressure on the defence.

When both those two came off on saturday we lost all our impetus going forward.

I'd like to see Hunty given the apparently free role that Hutch currently has, maybe even partnering Mac up front where with his speed he could feed off Mac's flick ons.

Last year Hunty showed a good touch in front of goal and I suspect his apparent drop of form is down to one of the following:

1. Trying to take too much responsibility as one of the more experienced players (he must have at least 35 games behind him now)

2. Loss of confidence - happens to all players at some time.

3. The second season syndrome - opponentsa are ready for him now having been taken a bit by surprise last season.

I think that by allowing him the freedom to roam, he is more likely to crop up in front of goal with a clear chance like he was doing last season as the junior in the team.
