Sam Up Front?

May be a gamble, but how about playing Sam up front from the beginning against Stockport on Saturday?

If Marcus Gayle is anywhere near fit i am sure he would easily fit in at the back given it is the position he has been playing in for Watford for the last two seasons to much acclaim from their supporters.

This would give Sam the chance to push forward from the beginning. We know he would win more than his fair share of headers, has the ball skills to unsettle a defence that is languishing at the bottom of the table, and would put his head in where it hurts!!!

Its been done before getting a centre back to switch to target man, remember Warhurst?

If we can cover him at the back it may be worth a go at Stockport, we had our best spell when MA "sent" him to the front and he would have got a goal if Fitz had not cleared his header from their line!!

No Sam Sodje in defence = a worrying lack of pace.

Sodje is fantastic striding forward with the ball, how effective would he be 1 on 1 against a big lump of a centre half with his back to goal?

Not a bad idea, but, if Marcus Gayle is anywhere near fit, I'd rather have him up front, since I'd rather not weaken our defence by moving Sam out. If Marcus doesn't work out up front, MA could always push Sam up front for the last half-hour or so.

If Marcus isn't fit for Saturday, then I think that it's probably worth a gamble playing Sam up front even if it does slightly weaken our defence. It's gotta be worth a try since neither Rankin or young Fitz are target men strikers, and we certainly need someone who is and/or can put himself about a bit.

At the end of the day, I believe that, although other teams around us are dropping "silly" points as well as us, from here on in, we have to win all the games that we should win on paper, otherwise the likes of Bristol Titty and/or Swindon WILL overtake us. Hence 3 points on Saturday is vital irrespective of what other teams do.

Sam Sodje played up front in a pre-season friendly at Arundel - he was pretty effective!

Sam Sodje was our best striker yesterday, and the best striker against Bradford when he was stuck up front. That's better proof he can hack it up front

Sam Up Front?

Are you seriously comparing Arundel with League One

I wasn't trying to compare anything, just making the point that he'd had a 90-minute run out there. Regardless of the opposition it was interesting to see how he frightened the life out of their defenders - he scored too!

Maybe comparing Arundel with Stockport is more appropriate but then it's Brentford innit?

wa it against bradford he did all those stepovers running into the box, was then hacked down and nothing was given? MA then went mental telling him to shot the ******* thing and he was promptly moved back to centre back and hasent gone upfront since? :fishing:

I'd rather our best defender stays at the back and play strikers up front

no. at one of the question answer sessions pre season, they had a shooting competition (like the warm up on matchdays) sam was the last to put the ball in the net and that was only once the goalie had been removed

Sam Up Front?

Why not!! I think Sam can play anywhere on the pitch although I am not sure we should split up such a great center back pairing at this important stage of the season. Scoring goals is important but not letting any in is essentual!!

I seem to remember MA talking about potential penalty takers when we were in the Cup and Sam was number 12 (out of 11 players on the pitch)! :nono:

Sam Up Front?

bloody rediculous thread!!!

Play a centre forward at the back and a centre back at the front...why?

sam is our best defender and is why we keep so many clean sheets, what we need to do is score more goals..that's al!

Sam is the reason why we didn't concede on Monday, snuffing out the threat of the sub from the umpteen long throws.

If with 10 to go he is pushed up so be it but like Mhead says.....Why would you lay people out of position......give the new Fitz a chance for gawdsake, I'm sure he'll click when Deon's back.
