Hello, I'm new and basically just joined up to share my experience of the game on Saturday.

Firstly about the game, I thought we were unlucky not to be winning at half time and our overall performance wasn't to bad, It's just that they were much more threatening when attacking. And also glad Logan isn't seriously injured.

Now, After the game as my username suggests I reside in Kent and therefore have to travel back into Waterloo withmy 9 Year old son so as usual we went back to the station and there was quite a bit of singing but we crossed over to the other platform where the Charlton 'fans' were and was only there a couple of minutes before both groups started chucking coins and other objects and while I was trying to move away from the group a Coin struck my son right on his shoulder which caused a lot of pain and immediatley started crying as someone that young would...But that didn't stop either group.

Now I'm not just blaming our fans as it was clearly both sides but with Charlton not being known as a 'nasty' club I thought it would be ok to leave straight away but both sets surprised me.

On the train was worse, With one particular group of Charlton 'fans' boasting about drugs being consumed on the Terrace and openly using the word Ni##er and other racist terms about Catholics all the way back to Waterloo.

Now I know not to tar everyone with the same brush but the groups at the Station and on the Train were very large and the Charlton group contained a couple of Scottish men who I guessed were Glasgow Rangers after listening to them. And by looking at a couple of posts about the game on the Charlton Forum (http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/44411/brentford-0-1-charlton-post-match-views/p3 , http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/44409/the-inflatable-banana/p1) , It seems that they are not as nice as people assume and neither are a certain section of Bees fans.

And I probably won't be attending with my boy for a while now as he is scared of going to the Station so if your reading, Well Done...Thats atleast 1 Fan you have put off from attending. Hope your proud.

Sorry for the negative post as I know it was only a very small element when yuo consider but still wanted to get my message across.

That said, the policing at that station needs to be looked at. The police never seem to do anything but give the gobby adolescents a clip on the earhole

I make the same journey for most home games - and am happy to report that I have never witnessed anything like that.....

Shame you experienced what you did .One thing I would of done though before going to the game is check rail links .Just in case the away team were from London and travelling from the same direction as me .

I was at the station with my seven year old son and when the Waterloo bound train came in the Charlton fans behind us just pushed forward crushing my son in a stampede to push on the train. I was holding my sons hand but had no time to react before he was virtually engulfed in a melee of fat spotty oicks, lost my rag a bit and pushed back, retrieved my distressed son and told them exactly what I thought of them. Plod and plastic plod just stood to the sidelines doing nothing. Luckily my son took it in his seven year old stride but unfortunately my ex didn't when he told her "it was great mummy I got crushed and daddy nearly had a fight at the station after football":sad:.

Think my son's not so bothered about going to the Hartlepool game as the excitement of getting on the train afterwards. Have tried to explain I don't quite think it'll be the same but he's having none of it!

Sadly, you probably get this everywhere you go in the country, On a train, a bus or while walking to the ground. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I hope your son is ok. Explain it was a one off. Don't lose faith in the Bees.

I take my youngest (12 y.o daughter) to games, thankfully we haven't come across anything like this, she's now a bees addict My eldest, my son, jumped ship at about 11 y.o!! My middle one, another daughter, just has no interest at all! She's the sensible one!

Keep yours and his interest/faith in the Bees, we're one big family, that's why I still love going.

That unfortunately is the whole problem, they cant give them a clip round the ear. Just the same as at school where the poor bloody teachers have to put up with all this sh*t. Its part and parcel of living in this wonderful country that past generations fought and died for and politicians effed up for the sake of political expediency.
I remember taking my two lads when they were youngsters and yes sometimes I was worried for our safety ( thanks Millwall!), but if you stop going then the lunatics really have taken over the asylum. Please dont tar everybody with the same brush, the vast majority of Bees and Charlton fans are normal decent people who would go out of their way to protect a child even if it meant endangering themselves.

Shame you had that experience. I travel by train most games and have never really had any trouble. If there is a large away following I tend to walk to Kew Bridge and get on there, notice a few others do as well.

Charlton is basically a family type club but they have always had a bigger and older "element" than you would have thought.

Travel by train to all games home and away. Even at the later time of getting the train at nearly 6.30pm, there were mindless diots from both clubs, swearing and being aggressive and throwing things across the tracks to each other. That's the first time I have seen that in many years. So I would say, it was a rare occassion that anything like that kicked off. Of course, you can't apologise for the opposing teams supporters but I can say, from many years experience of travelling by train to all games that that sort of occurence is very rare. Come back, we are a family club with many awards to prove it. There are mindless idiots at all clubs and they are in the minority. Don't let an idiotic few spoil a good day out for you and your son.

yeah there are always loads of police at the train station before the game but none afterwards, both on midweek and saturday home games.

I was on the platform to Waterloo and was amazed by the lack of Police that were "present". I was relieved that my daughter was actually to ill to attend otherwise she would have been scared out of her wits, too be honest I really thought somebody would get hurt. Not ideal but in future leave 5 mins early and catch the train that leaves at 16.54 then you will miss all this . I really hope it doesnt put your son off.

I used to work with a Charlton season ticket holder and i went to the cup game there and as a guest of his, sat in their family stand with him and his young son. The atmosphere was nothing short of poisonous and the language used in front of children was incredible. The youngsters see their old man screaming obscenities and five years later are doing the same themselves. There was a small group of our fans at the Basingstoke game concentrating solely on giving abuse to their fans in the second half. Police and stewards nearby took no notice but until these people are warned and/or chucked out nothing will change. These lads get two pints down them and want to fight the world. I tend to use trains for the aways and it can be very intimidating. The next generation of fans need to be encouraged and this sort of incident plainly doesnt help.

The sooner hounslow shut the Brentford fc library the better... We moan that the dug out moves have taken the intimidation away and now people are expected to clap and wave and be merry this is football. Friendly non swearing Safe boring stuff is done at the rugby

The Brook Road has always had a herbal smell to it particularly at the back. Not quite the same in Ealing road perhaps that's What has been missing from the match day experience.

I do the same journey back to Waterloo, I always cross the railway via footbridge on Brook Lane North, turn left, walk through estate, onto Windmill Road, get refreshments for the journey at the shop, cross over, down Orchard Road, straight on to platform, either go right to the back or right to front of platform, not in the middle. Never had a problem.
