There are two grandstands and lots of marquees up, think they are expecting a few people.

Anyone seen the bicycles decorated with flowers on Surrey roundabouts? Colleague of mine thought one was a shrine to an accident victim. I showed him 2 more on the other side of the roundabout and he said, "****ing hell, must have been a big lorry which took them out".

He kept quiet when we passed 3 more at the next roundabout.

Just coming back home from walton on thames. Nice atmosphere. Seemed a massive gap between first group and any GBers. Good weekend so far.

Good controlled race from GB so far. Just need to keep an eye on these breakaways and maintain position. Gilbert will probably blow himself out having gone way too early...

edit. Gilbert now munched by the breakaway group who themselves are only a minute or so away from the main peloton.

Great to see the cyclists going through west London, Richmond ,twickenham spotting my old stomping ground just a shame they didn't go through Feltham now that would have brought a lump to my throat:sad:

Froome has now dropped out. The breakaway still 1min ahead and looking strong. Looking really bad for GB and Cav - need to lay it on the line and hope that Cav can pick up some fast wheels from somewhere in a bunch sprint. Not looking great right now though

Cancellara has gone down - possible broken collarbone. Peloton closing right up.

Edit - gap still 57sec. If that is correct then Cavs race is over.

I guess a team of 4 is just too small to control a race from start to finish if the other teams decide they aren't up for a bunch sprint. I guess that's just the way road racing goes sometimes :shrug:

I hope Vino doesn't win - not good for the "olympic spirit" if a convicted blood doper takes gold

True but then Cav would struggle to get himself in the reckoning as he is just too much of a specialist and would struggle to hold his own in these breaks. Hopefully Brad will be back for the TT but it is asking a lot of him.

Great day, saw it the Albert Arms, Kingston Hill near the park. absolutely packed, beer, BBQ, Live Music, they even set up a grand stand in the car park.

Think it was summed up nicely by Boardman on TV, he explained that if the number of people chasing an escape in the peloton is more than the number of escapees then you have a bunch sprint, if there are more escapees than people chasing it down then the escapees win. Team GB were the only team chasing the escape & did remarkably well in the circumstances. The only argument one can make about GB's tactics is they should have had somebody marking the escape (Millar?) but Cavendish was never going to win if it was only his team chasing down the escape.

Went to see this in Weybridge. Came home and a few carried on watching it round at a friends - I loved the way that we all thought it was under control only to find that it wasn't! The realisation that actually we didn't know what the **** we were talking about was really funny.

Not to worry - I'll be unashamedly passing my expertise onto the Taekwondo later in the Games no doubt.

Stood and watched it on Kingston Bridge. Saw more safety cars and police than cyclists. Some people knew the names of the GB team and talked about something called a peleton - too clever by half.

Town centre very quiet. Went down pub after - saw Southampton v Ajax, Murrays playing tennis, womens handball and Liverpool v Spurs in USA.

Out of Richmond Park (Richmond Gate) at 12:29 towards Twickenham and then back into Richmond Park (Kingston Gate) at 15:20 but that doesn't go through Twickenham.
