Fair comments, I've just been away a long time it seems, but they earn good money! So, expectations are high.

Yes, a strange performance, 5-1 now. But not a convincing performance, more a case of Kaz running out of steam. They've looked tired this second half.

hmm, i'd argue it was quite convincing - they were clearly the better team. i just thought there were tinges of over-confidence, arrogance, complacency. there were some mistakes made (obviously Cole's, but many others too) that I would be disappointed with from my own team-mates, let alone top-level players!

i'm guessing no-one's gonna stay with me to chat about this Eastern European derby :D so adios!

There were lots of things wrong with the England players attitude and the Cole mistake was waiting to happen as all the players were casual. It just so happened that Cole made it.

But.

Any fan that booed him is in my eyes pure scum and can p!ss off as far as I am concerned.:nono:

In the case of the Georgia-Cyprus game yes it was. In the case of Bulgaria-Italy well it could turn out that way but we won't know until much later in the group. Both sides looked fairly ordinary in a fairly drab game. Michael Robinson was again on the Setanta coverage of the game. Unsurprisingly he was disapproving of the Italian approach to playing football. :D

Sounded like Northern Ireland were unlucky, they just had a minute of madness and conceded two goals.

i wasn't really looking at the Geo-Cyp game - i'm hoping they won't be competing with us!!!
maybe it would've been better for Italy to get beat, but it would've boosted the Bulgarians' confidence too. good to hear they both looked naff anyway :sorted:

I think you may have forgotten our last qualifying campaign when we took the grand total of 1 point against the Cypriots and we were lucky to get that! :( They should have drawn against Italy last time out and they really should have beaten Georgia tonight, especially as they missed a penalty with the score at 0-0 and that they also went 1 nil up.

Cypriot football is on the rise both in terms of their national side and their domestic football, Anorthosis Famagusta becoming the first Cypriot football side to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League this season. They are NOT to be underestimated and will give us plenty of trouble on Wednesday night I believe.

Yes I think a win for the Bulgarians would have boosted their confidence so a draw may work out fine for us. As I said we'll see on that one. They face a tricky trip to Tbilisi on Wednesday night and hopefully the Georgians will help us out.

We have gained an advantage in this group by way of getting 2 very tricky away games out of the way so quickly. After all we played the Georgians on neutral territory whereas the other teams in the group have to go to Tbilisi, which is a dangerous place to go. Just ask Gary Doherty about that one. :eek:

yep, remember Stan's pain well, but i'm assuming that finishing above Bulgaria and Italy (in an ideal world :eek: ) is the priority... so their dropping points is good. if Cyprus DO end up in the mix at the end of the group, fair play to them :eek:
agree re: the away games. also, the BBC preview of Wednesday says we have problems in the midfield - yet we can still afford to overlook Tabb... and what on earth is happening with Stephen Ireland?? that situation should really be resolved by now...

If I were feeling tactful I would say that Stephen Ireland is a mixed up young man who needs time to resolve his problems and that a recall to the squad is something he doesn't feel ready for at this time. :)

However I'm not feeling tactful so I will say that he is a selfish little gobshi*e who doesn't deserve to wear the national shirt again. If he can't be bothered with us then we should move forward without him. He already has history of being a selfish little primadonna, when he made himself unavailable for selection under Brian Kerr's tenure, and he shouldn't be allowed to mess us around any more. :mad1:

Having said all of that the door is still open for him according to Signor Trap. I'm not sure for how long though. Personally I wouldn't have him back but then again plenty of people would. Oh well. :shrug:

i knew of the incident last year where he missed the Czech game through being, frankly, strange. i wasn't aware, before today, that he was still "in exile". so i looked into it a little, and thought it was just a case of him serving some sort of informal punishment...

but, you certainly know more than me on this so I'm surprised to hear the rage :D it is a shame that one of our best footballing talents can't be integrated within the team, but if it's cos he's a ****, then we're better off without him anyway :sorted: shame tho :(

any other problems notwithstanding, even that incident was shamefully handled. he lied twice to the FAI, giving first his maternal grandmother's name, then his paternal one... the FAI found out both were still alive, and one even threatened to sue a paper for reporting her death.
eventually, four days late i believe, he confessed the truth - and everyone wondered he didn't just say that in the first place :confused:

Surely that's just 'foolish' rather than 'malicious'. I suspect he didn't want people invading a terribly tragic and extremely personal experience. I'm not sure I'd not do the same (Ok, not the lying bit but certainly keep the tabloids off the story and away from my grieving partner).

I dunno', I think I'd cut him a break if this is as bad as his gobsh*tery gets.
