Is there any reason why the timer stops at the end of 45 mins?

Surely it would make sense for them to carry on counting so we can see how much stoppage time is played?

Well They could at least put an animation saying 2 Additional Minutes or somthing and then put it back... Notice What they did when we scored? One of them changed, The other Turned off!

I could not see either of them from braemar e block due to the angles they are placed at. I had to put my own stopwatch on again and I suddenly noticed that I looked at my watch at least once evey 10 seconds. I never realised how often I used to look up at the scoreboard!

This is costing the club something and I feel it is the biggest waste of money since we decided to repair the scoreboard when it got broken the first time.

What a complete waste of money? - Silly old me thought we were foprecasting £300k losses on 6000 gates. Glad to see money keeps being found for admin changes, training facilities, extra £91,000 for MA squad and a new matchday stadium safety manager to help Roy King.

Didn't have the right time though, did they? Were 2 minutes fast!!!! Why. The old scoreboard still had the correct time and the two new ones were both fast. Makes us look amateurish when you cannot even co-ordinate the time on the clocks in the ground to read the same.

Also the actual clock time “froze” at half time when 45 minutes had elapsed and the actual clock time only started again when the countdown timer was started for the second half, but still 2 minutes fast. Surely they work independently of timers?

And what really annoys me is this countdown timer malarkey. Footie is played for 45 minutes counting from zero up. It is not played to run the clock down from 45 minutes. That is the system the Yanks use because they are incapable of working out how much time is left unless it is spoon fed to them!!!! So lets see a proper timer counting up to 45 minutes.

I am also disappointed if they only are able to indicate team names, scores, time and timer. Surely someone must be able to manipulate the software to enable team line-ups, substitution info and the like to be displayed?

Arsenal use the same method.... perhaps we can become their feeder club.. :)

Re: New Scoreboards

This is costing the club something and I feel it is the biggest waste of money since we decided to repair the scoreboard when it got broken the first time.

I think that's just a slight overreaction. Especially considering we aren't spending any money on them, as far as I was aware it's from a grant for ground improvments.

As for counting down that's personal preference. I'd rather it counted down to the match ending as that's what I like most about watching Brentford, when it's over :D

I am also disappointed if they only are able to indicate team names, scores, time and timer. Surely someone must be able to manipulate the software to enable team line-ups, substitution info and the like to be displayed?

Whose actually controlling the thing? Is it really anything more than a data cable/wireless link from a computer and hence stuff can easily be typed in? Need the instructions.

Re: New Scoreboards

Regarding the comments of timers counting down, perhaps someone can explain how when a timer reaches zero the referee can determine the amount of added time has elapsed? Referees would normally use a watch that counts up, and their second watch can show whatever time they like either up or down.

Additionally, prior to the League and FA banning ground timers showing time added on that had been played all clocks counted up! I have never seen a timer that can show negative time which is what would be needed if counting down was normal.

Also, televised matches for as long as I can remember have always used a clock that shows time played not time elapsed.

This is a Yankee thing, counting down where they cannot work things out like time left for themselves and where the matches stop the clock and so when zero is reached the game ends.. That is not how footie is played.

As for Arsenal, it is not my fault that they are as thick as Yankees at Highbury, is it? They are not known as gooners for nothing!!! lol

Re: New Scoreboards

Well the good news (see Si Bee post and link above) seems to be that the new scoreboards are more all singing and dancing than they appeared to be last Saturday. Presumably they have now read the manual and found someone with agile enough digits to use all the features? :D

Hopefully, as well as being used for advertising (which should raise some additional revenue) we will also be able to be informed of team lines ups, substitutes, substitutions, amount of time added on at end of each half, etc, etc?

I also hope that we revert to a proper stopwatch type of timer with the time counting up to 45/90 mins and not down to zero.

Re: New Scoreboards

Good to se on saturday that the timer now counts up from zero. Pity second half did not start at 45 mins and go up to 90 mins, rather than from zero to 45 again.

Pity the clock was still 2 minutes fast though! Surely someone can put the correct time on it.

Appeared to be some teething troubles getting the display fonts, sizes, logos, etc the correct size to display properly. Hopefully when that is sorted and the remainder of the manual is digested and cogitated we will also see the team line ups, substitutes, substitution information, amount of added time, half time scores, etc, etc being displayed?

But generally looking good. :D :)

Re: New Scoreboards

I think the new scorebords will be useful to the club for additional advertising and as it cost the club nothing (unclaim/unused grant money), they could profit out of it.

The only question is why the scoreboard by the 'Brook Road' stand is not at an angle like the one on the Ealing Terrace, giving everyone a resonable view of them. (You can we why the one on Brook Road is postioned like it is, on exsisting posts) With the Brook Road scoreboard at the same angle it would make the ground more enclosed, covering the space in that corner!

Anyone see my point of view or am I making too much of it??

Think you're spot on - but why didn't they just put the Brook Road one on the front of the stand in place of the old scoreboard?

As it is, the old wreck of a scoreboard looks cr@p & will need to be removed at some point anyhow...

Good to see the new scoreboards giving team info as well on Saturday against Port Vale. Also timer counts up to 45 then 90 mins.

Shame there was a problem in the last ten mins when all went blank!!! Still it is a great improvement and getting better every match.

It is still work in progress I think - apparently we took Hunt off twice on Saturday, first time for Tabb, then for Lawrence :D Maybe a little training on the system away from a matchday might be a good idea :sorted:

Not electronic ones. Now the ones they used to have at wembley where they have to manually insert the cards showing the team or score: old media. Electronic one: New Media. Sack him now.

Electronic scoreboards were here before the internet was widespread. They are old media. Still it's the New Media manager's fault I'd say :D

I thought the Arsenal thing was perhaps the operator getting confused due to the high quality of our recent home performances!

At least it's getting better. I still can't fathom how a scoreboard can be hard to operate, surely they come with a USB cable or wi-fi link and a program to use it?

Scoreboard (Merged Threads)

Re: New Scoreboards

Reckon there was a glitch in the system....as board showed Port Vale v Port Vale....there would be no need for the operator to touch the two teams so reckon it was a software problem...
