Selection Process For New Manager

This appointment is an important one in the history of the club.

With no disrespect to the any of the Directors on the board, they are not qualified any more than you or I to pick a list of names. I don't want Championship Manager at board level thanks

The thought of Joe Bourke handing over his list to Greg sends shivers down my spine.

My hope is for the board to ask John Griffin or a person involved in the football scene to give their recommendations.

Can we not ask Gerry Francis, Steve Perryman, Jimmy Hill etc to work as a consultant and help us in our selection? They are all supposed to hold the Bees in their hearts and Gerry doesn't seem to get out much.

Certainly ... I don't want the board picking any old "Tom Dick or Harry", it is going to be a very delicate job next season and the choice needs to be spot on.

They'll have to at least take advice from someone with a knowledge of the game at this level and below, Time for John Griffin to shine perhaps?

You obviously disagree with what I've said elsewhere. Greg Dyke should be far more qualified to pick a decent man manager than anyone else in charge IMO. From a footballing point of view though, I would tend to agree he has no better say than us but that ought to be true of any club that doesn't have a Director of Football which must be 90%ish outside the Premier League?

They will surely draw up a shortlist to maybe gage fan reaction. i.e Tranmere have said Levein, Moore and Allen so that gives the Tranny fans something to think about. Big decision= do they go for someone in the lower leagues like when we got Allen (maybe seen as a gamble by the board but also less money i would assume) or someone who has done it at this level?

I'm with you on with that, but I would still press for the board to act responsibly and take the advice of someone who has been in or around the game for a long time.

I would make John Griffin Director Of Football now anyway.

Except that for many managers that is seen as a role they do not want to work alongside.

A 'chief scout' is less intimidating for a man walking into the club.

I have no doubt that Griffin will be involved somehow in the selection process and I also trust Dyke to see through any bull spouted by someone not up to the job, this is where he can be useful to us.

Griffin's role seems to be advisory to almost anyone who wants to listen at BFC and he has done a good job in the recent past so why chnage it.

I think it's easier when the appointment is done before that of the manager. "Chief Scouts" can be removed by the manager - DOF's cannot.

What I'm saying is John Griffin is a font of knowledge that the board should be using to the maximium.

I wonder if Dyke would have taken MA on if he'd been around at the time? I think there's a bit of a personality clash going on which has been overlooked.

Which is why MA is going to find few clubs where he has unlimited reign.

Can't see the following being told how MA wants his chairman to run the club he manages

Spot on, MA's days were numbered when Dyke arrived, previously MA ran the show and no one had the balls to stand up to him, but Dyke is in a different league I would imagine, and used to coming across (!!) people like MA

We are on topic as far as I'm concerned because we're talking about a different calibre of person being available to interview the applicants which I would imagine are far greater in number than last time. The impression I get is that in 2004 the board were almost going cap in hand to people asking them if they would mind being manager of this great Club.

You're bang on there. Perryman, Francis, Stuart Gray all said "no thanks" to John Mac before he turned to Martin.
