In many of todays newpapers Mr Blatter is quoting that if Man Utd take the Rio case to court, he and FIFA will come down on them like a ton of bricks!:eek:
Well done Mr Blatter, its about time somebody told this 'we are above all the rules of the game' football team and their 'untouchable' players and manager where they stand:nono:

Man Utd think they can do whatever they want....take that FA Cup withdrawal a few yrs back (98?). If a little club like Hayes or even the League clubs that are in difficulty (Notts County etc) were unable to play for financial reasons pulled out of the competition then the rules say that you can never re-enter it again. Man Utd to the disgust of most other fans were re entered. Again a clear example of them being bigger than the game:sad:

So back to Rio, he fukked off when the drugs tester arrived on that Sept morning....myself I believe it was a case of arrogance more than running away because he'd been on anything. I don't think he cleared off in an attempt to get a substance out of his system(unlike an alleged certain WBA player!). It was a case of 'bollox to this, I got something planned this morning, and I can't be arsed to hang around here'.
So we are back to the arrogance again of Man Utd players, and if it takes a Blatter to bring them back to earth with an almighty bump then all power to you Mr Blatter.

Oh by the way approx 18 rugby players were banned for 18months by the RFU last year for testing +ve. RFU came down on those players much harder than the FA on Rio, so count yourself lucky mate!

It is my understanding that the FA Cup withdrawl, surely after 98? was done with the blessing and even encouragement of the FA, to aid our failed World Cup 2006 bid.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has blocked Rio Ferdinand's path to civil action over his eight-month ban imposed for missing a drugs test.

Privately they accuse Blatter of jumping on a populist bandwagon by urging the Football Association to clamp down on a drugs problem he has previously claimed did not exist.

And now he has entered the debate again and insisted under the laws of the game Ferdinand cannot take his case to a civil court should he wish to pursue the matter beyond an initial appeal.

"According to the statutes of Fifa and its member associations, in this case, no recourse may be made to civil courts," said Blatter.

"The highest court would be the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne."

Blatter denied weekend suggestions that he had threatened United with expulsion from the game should Ferdinand opt to take his case into the civil courts but the controversial Swiss is clearly on a collision course with one of the world's biggest clubs.

He has already clashed once with United chief executive David Gill over the Ferdinand issue and is also embroiled in a separate battle with the Red Devils over their membership of the influential G14 group which Blatter refuses to recognise.

Having rounded on the FA for the length of time they took in setting up the hearing, Blatter has "noted with satisfaction that this case has finally been dealt with and a decision passed".

However, he also hinted the threat of an increased penalty on Ferdinand had not yet been lifted, saying: "Fifa will not make any comment until it has received the decision, the reasons for the decision and the file on the case from the FA."

Blatter's comments only increase United's isolation on the Ferdinand issue.

As it stands, the 25-year-old has 14 days to decide if he will appeal against the suspension, a hearing which would be chaired by an independent QC but include two members of an FA council United believes is determined to make an example of their £29.3m record signing.

Interesting from Blatter. The FA and FIFA are in danger of disregarding Rio's Human Rights - namely, right to a fair trial.

Interesting to see if that comes into play and whether the ECJ or the ECHR get involved...

Errrr....he HAD a fair trial. He was represented by a lawyer. He was tried by a panel of independent people. What more do you want?

Are you going to say that a child who is suspended from school by the head/governors has his Human Rights disregarded?

It's about time that someone cracked down on these i-am-bigger-than-thou-boots. No-one is bigger than the game. Even ohn McEnroe had to admit that - and he was the closest someone came to being bigger than their game.

why should there be a trial. You park on a double yellow line, you get a fine because you've done wrong.

Whats so special about Ferdinand apart from he plays for Manure (which by precedent gives you special dispensation- is that Manure's argument)

Seff Blatter is a clown. And the motives behind his interfering with an English FA matter are highly questionable. This man would love nothing more than to see England disqualified from Euro '04. Remember that.

Can we remove the appeals procedure from all cases now?

Blatter is on dodgy ground. There are several continental players that have been banned after positive drugs tests, taken their case to appeal and had it reduced, they include Oscar Davids and Japp Stam.

If the FA or FIFA are going to get tough, they need to send a directive round to the clubs, not make an example of one player.
The precidents have already been set and so Rio will get his sentence on appeal.

Blatter should stop sticking his oar in and look at the whole drug issue across the world of football rather than telling the FA what to do when he has clearly let similar matters go.

Sorry Paz, but Rio's Human Rights!?...there are far more worthy people in our world that needs their human rights attended to well before this jumped up 'I'm untouchable' pr@t.

Agreed, but they're not under the jurisdiction of certain conventions by and large.

I'm not saying Rio is deserving, but those are his rights.

Uncharacteristically naive for you, Banana. As if it wasn't patently obvious, the Sun carried the story today about the "independence" of at least one man on the panel.

Slack Bladder is ruining the game we love!!

True, this whole Rio thing is a case of arrogance. But there have been so many things going on with FIFA & Slack that just make you sick. Brian Glanville once described Slack as a "50 ideas a day all of them crap" man!

Its about time the FA stood up to him. We have seen the introduction of the transfer window, which is having a huge effect on clubs like ours. Being very optimistic but we may have got out of this hole we are in if we didnt have 28 days in January to sign people in. Also smaller clubs are forced into panic sales of their best prospects just to keep the bank manager away for at least 5 months until the window opens again. But of course Slack doesnt care about the smaller clubs in countries like England as long as his friends in Africa & Asia are happy.

Its a real shame that no one looks as if they will stand against Slack when he comes up for re-election. I find it very hard to believe that every one of the national FA's are satisifed with his performance!

Finally, i would like to draw your attention to the 'FIFA2'. Not sure if you have heard this but two players, Colin Healy & Gareth Farrelly, have been banned from playing for Cork City in their home country, simply because they have played for 2 clubs already this season. In effect FIFA are stopping 2 guys, who cant be earning much, from plying their trade and providing for their families. They will be allowed to play again in JUly according to FIFA rules. Cork are up in arms about this, as FIFA allowed Mascherano to sign for Liverpool under an exceptional ruling but will not allow Healy & Farrelly the same. Cork have a petition running at the moment which they hope to present to FIFA and may even take as far as a European employment court, so please feel free to sign at...

why?

Clubs in all countries, English, Spanish, Italian etc etc, should have a minimum number of players from the country the club is affiliated to. IMO.

Can't wait for markafc's reply! :D

Imagine Arsenal playing with 5 Englishmen................... rofl

the foreigners are in the top league due to the money, it's the managers decision to sign them, there isn't that many foreigners below that as they leave that club when they go down to the championship. Blatter even lets foreign players that haven't represented their own country in full International to play for the country they play in within 3 seasons, like I said Blatter is a moron

Blatter doesn't allow it, the passport does.

When a player is in a country for x amount (believe it varies in different countries) of years consecutively, they are entitled to a passport, and become a citizen. This then qualifies them to play for that country if they wish to adopt it as their own.

letting foreigners play for a country not their own happens in all sports, not just football, just look at the Cricket and Rugby national teams.

As for managers signing them, maybe English players are around but the agents and players and their clubs ask for too much, £5 mill for an Englishman or £2 mill for a foreigner........................ they'd take johnny foreigner every time. The system needs to change to support home grown talent, some are world class like the Rooney's etc, but some of the foreign players are no better than there english counter parts, but are the cheaper option to purchase.

only this week he went on record threatening England with not being able to apply for the World Cup again with the premiership clubs wishing to play abroad, he forgets about the fans that don't support the big teams

OK OK OK! We get it that you think he is a moron.

The idea is still a good one and something like this is long overdue to start on the road to restoring competitiveness to the game. If football is not going to be further reduced to a parody like the Harlem Globetrotters where a few teams of glamorous players tour around making oodles of cash by making the others look like (dare I say it?) morons, something needs to be done to replace money-making as the driving criteria of the sport and to ensure the development and participation of local people.

The idea isn´t long overdue, because he´s been saying it for years. And he´s in no better position to change things now than he was before. It´s entirely up to the EU and whether they change the laws on freedom of employment for professional sports.
