Shocking Decisions

Given Monday's shocker I would like to have an informal poll of as many recent decisions as possible where either we were robbed or else had the luck on our side.

Perhaps this will help decide once and for all whether we are a lucky team or whether we are generally dumped on by referees.

WE WUZ ROBBED

- Notts County penalty

- Notts County , Mr Biggar

- Dearden, phantom whistler at Brizzle Rovers

WE WUZ LUCKY

- Pillock air shot penalty v Barnsley

- Newman having Huddersfield sending off rescinded

Over to you all...

Shocking Decisions

WE WUZ LUCKY

Super Market Trolley's goal for Doncaster - although I grant you it didn't affect the final result.

Shocking Decisions

Sir Gary of Bliss scoring against Fulscum at The Cottage but using his arm on purpose prior to the goal:bound::banana::bound::thetruth:

Shocking Decisions

WE WUZ ROBBED

- 98th minute equaliser by Sheff Wed when ref got his timing wrong in Great Escape season

Shocking Decisions

Kevin Phillips goal against us in The FA Cup against Soton...

Shocking Decisions

Newcastle away where their player scored from the half way line

Shocking Decisions

the ten man pile up the ball forced over the line by joe allon ,free kick given against us .the team i forgot but it was in the season we went down in div 1

Shocking Decisions

One that sticks in my mind was the penalty given for hand ball by Billy Manuel away at Watford in 1993. Similar to Glenn Poole but far more crucial in terms of the impact on the season.

Shocking Decisions

How about that one v Hull a few years ago...FA cup game...( not there myself) their striker fouled our keeper to score the winner...:nono:

Shocking Decisions

The lino in the Norwich cup game who then retired after he showed a complete misunderstanding of the offside rule.........several times.....

Shocking Decisions

WE WUZ LUCKY

- Newman having Huddersfield sending off rescinded

Hard to tell for sure only seeing it once at full speed but although he did basically land with his studs on the face of their bloke who was laid out on the floor I was convinced at the time that Newman wasn't aware it was going to happen. Looked to me like he was concentrating on blocking the shot that was coming in from the other player and turning his body as he jumped.

Nasty though the injury was I wasn't that surprised it was overturned.

Shocking Decisions

In the early 70s I saw us win at Plymouth with a "goal" from Alan Murray (I think); problem is it was the opposite of the Trolley "goal"; the ball didn't go in the net but bounced back through a hole in the net.

It was the only goal of the game and the locals were not impressed!
:)

Shocking Decisions

I was in Brook Road Upper for the Newman incident and it was an accident, unlike the decision to sign him.

Shocking Decisions

WE WUZ ROBBED

Watford at home (featured on Sunday's The Big Match) when they scored from a corner whilst the phantom whistler stuck again.

:imwith:

wasn't he a local bloke, Lowestoft seems to ring a bell.........cheating homer........

yes, totally agreed, but it WAS Newman........

Garry Moore's header past Gordon Phillips for Southend that went through a hole in the net and was disallowed.

Shocking Decisions

ROBBED

Ref ordering re-take of penalty our keeper had saved at home to Sheff U in a midweek game 1980-ish (game where Doug Allder got sent off)

Penalty at Watford in our only 'Championship' season of recent times (think it was Keith Millen, not Billy Manuel, penalised) - fairly similar to the Notts Co decision on Monday

Extra time added v Notts Cty in that Championship season

Matt Somner being sent off in an early season midweek game, I think in Martin Allen's first full season (got the ball and couldn't avoid following through)

LUCKY

Both pens v Barnet last season

Willock getting a pen for an air-shot

Rankin getting a pen and an opponent sent off (Port Vale) for what didn't look a foul

I reckon it was Billy Manual - only one way to settle this .........

Especially when Pat Terry equalised later. Kevin Phillips also had one disallowed at Southampton which wasn't offside, evened up their dodgy one in the first half.

WE WUZ LUCKY

DJ v Huddersfield diving to get their keeper sent off in his last league game with us.

not that i saw it, but Darren Powell away to Peterborough. Didn't the keeper kick the ball against him, but it got disallowed for a foul (which the ref only gave cos he wasn't looking and assumed there must have been a foul...)

I was. It was the same day Colchester beat Leeds. 1970, 5th round, I think. My first experience of football injustice.

Shocking Decisions

lucky - own goal at home v brighton (i think) c. 1993. ball gets crossed in, no bees attackers at all anywhere near, defender tries to clear it end up kneeing into top corner.

ps the watford "handball" was millen.

I was talking about lucky and unlucky refereeing decisions rather than lucky pieces of play and, believe me, the Watford handball was Billy Manuel, it has haunted me for 15 years !!

Shocking Decisions

yes i realised that after i posted it. it was a shocking decision by the brighton defender though......

i still think it was millen though. it has also haunted me for a similar time but let's not go to war over it.

Shocking Decisions

Correct. The Glen Thomas own goal was 1998 as well.

Shocking Decisions

a v Plymouth 72/73-Allan Murray hit a beauty-it hit the stanchion and rolled down, running out the back of the net. Ref gave the goal despite the ball being behind the goal and the Plymouth fans going mad. What fun we had walking to our car at the bottom of the hill!

Shocking Decisions

A shocker was Andy Cole scoring when about 5 yards offside v Brizzle c

I was at that game, my dad wrote to The Big Match in which Brian Moore spoke about it and showed it

Shocking Decisions

The Hull away game was a blatant foul by Chris Chilton (I think) on Gordon Phillips & came after Brian Turner had hit the post which would have made the score 2-0 & probably won us the game.

Does anyone remember Asa Hartford blatantly handling the ball in the last few minutes of the game at the Brook Road end?
