Simon Cox

On his second stint with Brentford, but whats your opinions of him? He is an overrated Premiership youngster but or a talented lad?

I will start the ball rolling, he seems to have added a bit of bite and pace to a lacking team. A wise loan move to bring him back.

Simon Cox

Overall a class above our players, worthy of playing in Championship without a doubt, lucky to have him at the moment, hope he stays on til the end of the season at least :sorted:

Simon Cox

Good strong player, Can play either CF or CM does both jobs well.
His goalscoring record in Reading reserves was fantastic but when you pur someone like him into a team struggling you cant gurantee goals.
Nice lad aswell. :sorted:

Simon Cox

At least he will take us down with effort.
We are a much better side with him in it.

Simon Cox

But surely 'putting in 100%' was the answer to all our problems???? Don't tell me we're going to go down even if we do that???? :D :fishing:

I think we look a better team with him in it due to our players being complete tosh.
Mousinho put in a really good performance and is improving and even on off days you can't fault his commitment and Cox is the same. Cox has an a positive effect on our side by showing heart and desire and you can see that defeat hurts.
I like football and I like watching good football but I hate watching players with no heart. I've seen plenty of them playing for other sides that have come to GP and sadly Brooker is up there with the worst of them.
I don't disagree with your philosphy on football and couldn't stand Eddie Hutch being in our side but Brooker hid like a frightened little girl again on Saturday and we needed him.
I'm not arguing with you but I think you and others on here have got my take of football wrong, I don't like hoofball and didn't enjoy the football under MA. I quite liked the results but my favourite times at GP were with that superb footballing side under Callaghan who entertained yet really underachieved.
Sadly Brooker neither entertains or achieves and could learn so much from Cox and Ide who will never have his ability but luckily will never give up and hide.

.

Well, I'm certainly with you on that one..

Going back to topic, do you reckon the new manager (whoever he may be) will keep Cox or sacrifice him to bring in a much needed defensive midfielder or left winger.. ?

I think we need a left winger or a right winger more than anything......

Fitz loves him so if he gets the job then it is a cert that he stays in the side.
Mousinho and KOC are coping in the middle as Cox also helps out but width is needed as after Ide went off we had no outlet at all. Sadly Rhodes is not the answer but Jo has performed pretty well in an alien position for him.
We need a winger..............

Simon Cox

Skillfull little player. Hope we keep him to the end of the season

Needs a song though

How much would he actually be costing us, i would not think that sending him back would free up much money for a experienced player hope we can keep him for rest of season

Personally I can't see us surviving with KOC and Mousinho in the middle, partly because of the lack of pace and also because it would mean Osbourne playing out the rest of the season at RB..

Kuffour's wasted and unhappy out wide, he needs to be played up front asap. You won't agree I know, but I'm perfectly happy with Brooker on the right providing KOC is behind him, as they work well together. The left side is a huge problem however and we havent found a solution yet.

Oli seems to be history at BFC now and it remains to be seen whether a new man can get anything out of Pinault, so assuming these two arent in contention I'd imagine we'd try and keep Cox if at all possible.... I've always wondered how he'd do up front though, that's supposedly his best position and he's certainly not afraid to shoot, unlike our other front men...

Simon Cox

The left side is a strange one, before a ball was kicked I remember thinking that perm 2 from Framps, Tillen, Rhodes or Charles was more than enough.
Charles had a stormer when he came on in LM at Bradford last season and I thought Tillen would progress and was willing to give Rhodes another chance.
In a way it was perm 1 from the above 3 as Framps staying was going to mean he was LB when fit and even LB with one arm.
I've had it with Rhodes, seriously doubting Tillen and Charles is too young and raw but still a prospect.

KOC and Mousinho are the best we have but i would love to have a Stewart Talbot character plucked out of thin air and quickly but at the moment they must start. I'd prefer Hurlock and Kamara fetching and carrying for Sir Stanley but we are a million miles away from that.

Cox and Kuffour were pivotal to all things good at Vale and although I agree that Jo is wasted there he is as good as it gets there at present.
Mousinho really put in a good performance and deserves his place but Cox is a "huge member" of our struggling side.
Brooker should never play again, one person was given stick at Vale and it was an absolutely dismal showing by him again.

Simon Cox

For all of Cox's endeavour, it's a tough ask playing up front and he ain't scored any goals yet and I'm afraid that's what counts.

I prefer Cox in a central midfield role to be honest, he adds bite to a position that for the majority of the season has needed someone in there who is going to stamp there authority on the game. At a push i would put Cox at the top of a diamond midfield, however i wouldn't play him as a centre forward. However Brentford need to get Moore, Kuffour and Cox all working together, if you want to stand a good chance of staying up.

Simon Cox

Is he staying for the season? Hope so...

I hope so too... but if he is surely it could have been announced today? Or maybe Fitz is going to spread the good news out over a few days? Or is hoping to spend the money on someone else? Or will wait until his loan officially ends on Monday?

What was the other "good news"? ;) :fishing:

Simon Cox

I was just about to ask this.

This is what he said in the Swansea Press Conference. All up in the air at the moment by the looks of it. I'd give him an 18 month contract if Reading release him for nowt.

My loan ends on 8 January so there is one game left. I don’t know yet if I’ll return. I want to go somewhere where I can play every week. That could be Brentford or elsewhere. I’ll also see if Reading want me.

I could go on either another loan or a permanent move. I’ll need to see what happens and weigh up my options.

Thanks for drawing my attention to the above

Does not sound overly positive to me

More importantly he could get injured on saturday and that would f*ck up our plans unless we agre with Reading he returns to them each time he gets injured.
I said before elsewhere that there will only be two signings this week but it will have to be three as abbey is only on a seven day deal from last Thursday.
I can not see him being given a contract for the whole five months but who knows.
Cox on the other hand will attract other clubs this month and if not then he has a poor agent. Will he sign for us again? I doubt it personally but on saturday we now have a line up like this
abbey assuming he re-signs tomorrow.
KOC Partridge Griffiths Framps
Brooker Cox Pinault Keith
Willock Kuffour

If Heywood is fit then griffiths will play in midfield ahead of pinault imho

Simon Cox

Sometimes you can read too much into written text and often it's totally the wrong end of the stick, but i remember that when i read what Cox had to say as quoted above it gave me the distinct impression that staying at Brentford was not exactly what he has in mind in the near future.

It wil be a shame if he goes because he's given some much needed urgency & heart to our recent performances. I wonder whether being subbed on more than one occasion has affected his opinion - i guess that this supposition largely depends upon if the widely suggested view that he'd run himself into the ground beforehand is actually true

He provides the level of commitment & passion we need but i'm not sure if he's got the quality to keep us in League 1

He was blowing on Saturday for sure and he spoke to Fitz a good five minutes before he was subbed to let him know, good pro that he is!
Playing out of position is sometimes more mentally exhausting than physically and you could see even in the first half that Fitz and Reevesy were constantly trying to get him in the right position at many a given time.
that is not to question or lessen his work rate which is tremendous also!

Simon Cox

Maybe playing on the left wing wasn't the sort pf experience he was looking for when joining us? Frankly I cannot understand why both JK & Cox have been played in this position when Brooker, who has played a significant part of his career there, has not been. JK is certainly more suited to playing on the right if we are really going to play him out of position - he is wasted on the left, as is Cox.

As for our potential midfield - PB, Cox, Hunt (?), Keith - there's not exactly a lot of physical presence, is there?

Simon Cox

I hope he stays, but i doubt he will :(

He lives down the road and isn't going to command astronomical wages so that is in our favour surely?

It really depends if he wants to play in a team as poor as us at present, and if he gets a better offer?

Simon Cox

I'll be disappointed if he leaves. He hasn't quite made the impact Sidwell did obviously but he's been brought into a struggling side and I think he has demonstrated more passion in his play for a team that isn't his than most of our own players have.

He seems best suited to attacking midfield or just behind the strikers though but hasn't always been used effectively by the club management which frankly is their mistake not his.

Simon Cox

Cox has gone back to reading:

http://www.brentfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10421~961433,00.html

"We can only take five players on loan at any one time, so the decision was made before today's game to allow Simon to return to Reading, in order to allow new players to come in if and when necessary" said Scott.

So one would assume we're expecting a couple of loans to arrive next week then? Perhaps the much heralded freebies from the Premiership??? :D

Simon Cox

During his second stint Cox has often been the best player on the pitch wearing red and white and on occasion the one who cares the most. If were only allowed two players on loan then surely it's better to keep him than loan a defender. Ok our defence isn't great, but Heywood and Griffiths aren't our worst players and just getting another defender isn't going to solve the problem. On the other hand every time Cox played he seemed to give something to the match...it was never enough to compensate for some of the other players htough...

Simon Cox

Very surprised Fitzgerald did not want to keep him

Seemed for a while that everything was going through him

I think he should be looking to play in a better team than us at present for his long term prospects

Simon Cox

at the end of the day people moan about the current squad game after game, what has Cox actually done in his two stints, no denying he gave it his all, but if his return to Reading opens up a different option for us then I am up for that. Unfortunately for Cox was his height, once JK returned up front, he was never going to get his supposed favoured position, the few times he played CM he was ok, but nothing special, and as I say, if it means a different option coming in, then I think thats the way to go.

Thanks Simon.

That's the way I see it. Not bad but not exceptional. If him going means we get a decent forward then that'll be no bad swap imo.

We have 3 on loan. Mark explained that Abbey is actually a loan to circumvent the window.

Cox would have made four with Abbey, Leary and Partridge.

I would expect at least one striker, probably two, we need Cox out TBH.

He's done ok but for a striker or forward midfield player he doesn't get in the box enough or score enough goals.

Simon Cox

I thought it was only five players in the playing squad.

still what do I know!!

You can have five loan players in your 16 man matchday squad.

There's no point having more than five in the squad full stop is there  You couldn't use them all

Won't we be able to sign Abbey on a contract now if Torquay release him. He's not going to go back is he?

Simon Cox

If Abbey gets his ban then we do need a keeper until Nelson can return.

Yes we can but I suspect we are waiting to see what the FA do.

If he gets a three match ban he's out until Feb and Masters and/or Nelson may be back by then so signing him would be the last thing we'd do.

As you intimate I don't think he'll be on loan at Brentford come next Saturday, whether he's a permanent signing or has left the club is the question IMHO.

Simon Cox

Thanks Simon Cox................ showed more passion than some of those with contracts at BFC................. he's not the right player at this present moment in time, but i'd like to think that he'll come here in a season or so as a BFC player because he shows PASSION.................. i just wish some of the squad new what passion meant...........top kid.........good luck to him
