Sublime 147 from Sean Murphy in the semi final of the masters.

Snooker

giving every single snooker player ilon the circuit a w***y nickname doesn't stop them being dull as dogshit

I cannot watch the BBC coverage - why does Dennis Taylor think talking all the time is required. Saying things like ‘he needs a sizeable break’ . Really? If we are watching we know about snooker just let us enjoy it.

I’d steer clear of the Eurosport coverage if I were you?

Mrs WB and I go to the Masters most years.
We made our annual trip twice this year (including this afternoons final session). It really is a cracking tournament, and they've finally made a real effort with the new fanzone. Well worth a trip, even with the ball ache of getting to Ally Pally.

Snooker

Engrossing final of the Players Championship currently on ITV4.

Judd Trump (1) 6 - 8 Kyren Wilson (2)
(Best of 19 Frames)

Has ebbed and flowed nicely with some bad misses and excellent breaks under pressure.

Snooker

Looks like it's Wilson 9 8 up now as long as Trump does not mess this break up

Snooker

Wilson beats Trump 10-9.
Both players with a break in the 30s in the final frame before Wilson made the final telling contribution.
Enjoyable watch.

And it was one of the few snooker events which are able to be watched without having to pay TNT 30 quid a month

Brilliant performance from Mark Williams to destroy Shaun Murphy in the final.

In doing so, he becomes the oldest winner of a snooker ranking tournament ever. He eclipses the record held by his compatriot, the late great Ray Reardon, who held the record since 1982.

Agreed. The first session was a demolition job. Murphy gave 2 frames away but was otherwise comprehensively outplayed.

The class of 92 strike again.

Jack Lisowski wins his first ranking event title, on a final frame decider, at the Northern Irish Open.
Had previously been in 6 finals and has had a tough season, including his dad dying suddenly in March.
A talented attacking player and his matches are usually a good watch. Congratulations Jack 🏆👏

Snooker

Brilliant for Jack. He has shades of Jimmy White about him, a bit loose in the safety department but an absolute joy to watch. The standard is so good these days it's completely crazy he hadn't won a ranking event until now, but particularly poignant in light of his personal stuff this year.

Fab game Higgins v Murphy. Really enjoyable. Fantastic tension
The downside is Dennis Taylors commentary it is truly awful, in the middle of a tense deciding frame when Murphy is positioning himself for a key pot he starts whittering about the crowds coming to the tournament. SHUT UP!!
Just have Hendry or Davis who talk brilliantly about various shots AND get it right.
Anyway as I say great game.

If ever a bloke made an entire broadcasting career out of just 2 seasons of being a good snooker player, it's him. He's never been a good commentator, but has got even worse. Beeb fired him 2 or 3 years ago, but unfortunately reversed their decision.

That’s just complete rubbish, certainly more than 2 seasons.

Is it? - look back at his ranking tournament wins. Off the top of my head, one WC in 1985 and one Rothmans Grand Prix tournament around and about the same time.

He was making up the numbers through the 70s and up to his glasses around 1984. I don't remember him doing much in tournaments after 1986/7. Google may prove me wrong.

He won the Masters in 1987 which is a good one to win.

Ok not wins, but he was in 1 world final, 3 world semi finals and 2 world quarter finals before he actually won it and was a consistent performer in all other tournaments, so I would say he wasn't making up the numbers at all and certainly more than 2 seasons per your earlier post!!!

Snooker

The pressure of having your family held by armed men back home
That reminds me of the story that Mussolini sent a message to the Italian team at the World Cup in the 30s that said ‘win or die’ . They won.

Sounds good - how much were the tickets?

I really can’t stand Mark Allen! I know not everyone can play attacking snooker but he is so boring these days - takes ages over every shot and then plays an obvious safety. I’m sure it’s deliberate to knock his opposition out of their rhythm - I can’t even watch him on telly anymore - it’s like watching paint dry! At least you will have Williams to entertain you!

About £35.00 I think.

Not keen on the different camera angle, makes the table look square and the black carpet too.
