Some New Things

* If you want to mention someone in a post, type @username. They will get a notification that will direct them to their profile page where the post will be listed. You can also click Mention from the Quick Reply options (looks like an eye or maybe a speaker). Work in Progress.
* You can now select a part of a post to quote. Simply highlight the text and in the post footer, click Quote Selected Text
* Under Forum > Quick Links there is a new link called Top Posters of the Month/Year. Embarrassing. :(
* The Quick Reply box has a few more features now which should mean that you don't need to go Advanced so often.
* When you hover over a thread, you now get a bigger summary. Not sure I like that one very much though.

All on the Desktop style. Mobile style has none of dat sh*t.

Let me know if any of it doesn't work properly or you have queries.

Some New Things

Thank you for all the work you have put in to improve things for us :)

Cheers for this.

Is it likely some of the GPG's more advanced features might creep into the Mobile Style at any point?

Unlikely sadly. A lot of these features are developed by 3rd party developers and unless they take account of mobile, it doesn't happen. On the version we are on, they don't seem to be interested. Maybe one day in the future we will upgrade to all the latest software but that's a big undertaking which might cost

I like the emoticons by the side, that makes things easier!

That's understandable.

Frustrating though as I'm on the GPG mobile site about 1000x more often

Trouble is that the "official" vb mobile site isn't very good. When it is then we'll make your lives a misery again, and ours.

Please remove the posting totals from quick links.

Thank you.

Just to point out that you can't mention yourself. No one therefore needs to try it anymore. :)

... and new smilies.

I don't know if this is technically possible (or easy enough to do) in the code....but would it be possible to have a forum option to default to the desktop view (regardless of the mobile user agent / browser requesting the mobile version) when logged in?
I only ask as I imagine I'm not the only person who uses their mobile in the standard mode (which requests a mobile site) but certain sites like this are much more functional in desktop mode (quotes, likes etc) and always have to change to desktop mode each time I visit.

The way this works is the software detects for a mobile device and assigns the mobile style if found. I could turn that off but that will almost certainly inconvenience more users than it helps. I need to see if anyone has developed anything to override.

Scroll to bottom. Click "Full Site". Once per session unfortunately

Oh yeah.

Can we have polls on mobile ever or is that also a pretty difficult thing to achieve in the circumstances

Same answer as before. All of these features require you to switch the full site style. Very unsatisfactory I know. :(

Most of the old smilies are still there.

A lot of the standard smilies appear to have had Botox injections. The standard smile, frown, grin and wink are wrong. The crying fella doesn't even cry anymore.

I'll get used to it, I'm sure. I can always start using inappropriate smilies.

Some New Things

Just noticed the new YUCK smilie. I like it. I'll shut up now...

Where's yawn and sleep smilies? I'm concerned for their well-being.

Some New Things

They are as one :bored: (bored)

Okay... So you've killed yawny man?

Crying man's tears have stopped moving again...

I'll stick to shrugging.

Is there anywhere that explains what these things are supposed to mean? I mean why is there a banana? What is the relevance - except on that this site we of course do have a Mr Nana. Why would anyone else use it?

They can mean whatever you want them to mean. :homer:  :monkey:    :drinker: :box:

I see that angel no longer works and that love is all wrong.

It's going to take me a while to become accustomed to these monumental changes...
