We need a Director of Expectations Management

Not sure that role is viable seeing as us fans have been told there is something like a 5 year plan to reach the Premiership when we were in League 1.

This last week has been a Brand Management catastrophe and we have given those in the media wanting a cheap gag like Stelling or waiting for a chance to have a pop like Durham a loaded gun with our inability to hold onto contracted players until replacements have been sourced, Saturday's performance, the pitch, last nights team selection and inevitable result.

We need some PMA quick and that is best fuelled by some Positive Action like a nice new signing to cheer everybody up

Please refer us to this (non-existent) plan. Thanks.

Yes, but would he/she agree with those at the top of the club!?

Sadly, I get a feeling you're sitting with your old chap in your hand feeling quite smug that you're predictions are coming in.

Would have been a tough job for the Oxford game. As to avoid people being disappointed they'd have to have said:
"Don't bother turning up. It's going to be grim and rainy. If you do you'll be watching a 3rd string team full of kids get absolutely hammered by a team of adults who are playing to win, rather than come for a training session, and be sitting through 90 minutes of the poorest football we've played as far as we can remember". ;)

I am seriously beginning to worry about you Bill. Are you actually able to read? What has happened has happened and there is nothing in my post that is not true.
Stelling started the show on Saturday poking fun at the job titles we have handed out and Durham was in his element yesterday over the pitch and the result against Oxford United.

I did not give him the gun nor did I load the bullets and I am as pissed off as anyone when the media mock our club.

The difference is you want everything to be rosy in the mathematical modelling garden and are so far up its arse you don't want to say when something is wrong.

This is not some nice league in a pleasant part of Scandinavia, this is a league with a £100 million pot of gold at the end of the season and my guess is Giles and Anderson seriously under estimated the backlash from the fans and were not expecting anything but nice things from those lovely people in the media.

Let me ask you a question - How far away from SKY would you say Brentford FC is in miles?

We have played 1 (ONE) league game which we drew.
The reserves lost badly - shame
Bit early for saying something is wrong imho

If you have moved off Brilliant Nick, then I would call that progress.

I am saying that these things have given those that want to mock a loaded gun. If you think I and others that disagree with you are part of that then you are mistaken.
Those that are running the club these days could have gone for months without the rose tinted brigade alerting them to the pitfalls but fortunately they have had a real Week 1 eye opener.

What on you on about , what has happemed that is the fault of mathematical modelling etc. ?

Did you moan when the " stats " unearthed Jota ?

After watching nearly every game stuck in division3 for 48738 years this squad is brilliant in comparison, which we will see when the new signings bed in ( stop being injured ).

I repeat , we have played 1 game in which we got a good result in.

Spot on mate , last thing we need is divisive fans dying to be proved " right "
as for Talksport then abuse from them is a good thing , the dinosaurs in English football will be eating humble pie soon enough and many on here will hide away again ( hopefully )
Its lucky MB is strong enough and committed enough to see this through as some don't deserve it.
Annoying thing being if we did slip back down who would be the ones still going to Oldham , Hartepool etc ......

Saying we are having a brand management catastrophe is yet another over reaction in this current never ending over exaggerations from " bees supporters "
What positive action is needed ?
What negative actions have conducted ?
What are you on about regarding our inability to hold onto a player ? If a player I'd determined to go or a club like hull refuse to go away and are disruptively trying to buy our player, then what are Brentford to do but try and get the best deal possible, which we have done a good job of so far. I know you've been a bees fan long enough that why it's makes your post even more pathetic than a new breeds. You should well how in the past we've always been bent over in having our players stolen from us.
We don't wait for a replacement before we sell as our new system is always looking for new player, at all times, we will always have targets/potential signings on radar. If Gray leaves, and there's a delay in it it will be because we fought for the best deal we can get. That money will then go towards a replacement/s.

What pma or positive action is needed ? Why should BFC rush into that or a new signing haut to make you happy.

The club are doing things right, they don't need to rush into things. Even though we are constantly looking at players and have made a number of offers for new players. Evidently none of the is good enough for you

Who cares what Durham says. He's got nothing to do with our club. Do you seriously listen to talk sport ! There lies the problem if you ask me.
And who gives a sh*t about how far we are from sky. Like anyone else they report what they want to report.

Yes your right, our club is at the serious money end of the football now. How do you expect us to compete ? We can't throw money about like it's going out of fashion. We have to be smart, and we are.
How do you think we got hold of players like Jota and Gray ? A player your going potty over about letting go ? We got him on stats, paid relatively nothing for him and when/if he goes we will make a massive profit on him, allowing us to repeat the process more widely. Seems to me this stats business is working already !

Herbert, I am happy with what we are trying to do, I am happy that the aim is to get to The Premiership, time to do that is not important its being ambitious enough to just be aiming for it and I am all in.

But the pitch is sh*t, it was sh*t when we played Stoke and its being dealt with now probably the first opportunity so it needs not to be sh*t when its relayed.
The squad is not brilliant. Its not an I told you so it is a don't listen to the likes of Nick Logan who would have you think that their sh*t does not stink all is rosy in the garden.
Its not and the fans are wise enough to that fact whether it be the Head Coach, Player unrest, the pitch, Cup defeat etc etc its dividing the fans and the club needs to move to pull us back together.

Sending Marinus and Bonham out in front of the cameras to take the blame for Tuesday only befits the fall guy model and did MD no favours at all.

Watch Sky Sports during the day, don't listen, just watch what they are using everyday to compare players linked to clubs in the Transfer Window. I will tell you Statistical / Mathematical Modelling!!!!

Then look at the SKY live Championship fixtures schedule upto and including November 7th (that's the first three months of the season).

Tell me what you see? Then ask yourself WHY?

Now I am getting totally confused, what specifically are these pitfalls that you have identified which is lesser mortals have missed??

The pitch??? Read our tame experts comments, it can go wrong and it has, action now taken

Sale if Moses? Agent leaked release clause and we sold as had no option

Dallas, wanted regular first team football and we accepted a bid as we're not prepared to give that assurance

JD??? Your mate so presumably you are fully aware of the background there !!!

Grey??? Not sold and holding out for max price unlike in the past

Injuries?? It happens

Oxford??? Not good but not surprising, I suggested before that team would bear little resemblance to 1st team as has been the case for past 3 years. Yea we lost and yea it was bad, sume errors and game over after 12 mins. Seen it all before

So therefore which of these issues, using your extensive knowledge and presumably crystal ball would you have put right before it happened

I have to admit I do struggle with your posts to understand whether you are just a troll, an attention seeker, a closet QPR fan or just so cheesed off that " josh" has gone that now you can only see the negative in everything

Go and watch the video mentioned on another thread as it might give you some insight and enable you to make more objective posts

I've asked myself and one of the answers I've come up with is that Leeds and a couple of other clubs are media darlings and must be shown at every given opportunity.

I think I know where you are going but I think I am right in saying that there are two other clubs that also don't feature at all on that list, is there any explanation of why that is?

Why is it some supporters almost want us to fail? I am a supporter. Therefore I support the club, especially when there's nothing to suggest that we are falling short. Talk to me in a season or two, and if we haven't seen any progress at all, like signing Murray Jones as a replacement for Dean Holdsworth, and then I'll be ranting and raving like a lunatic.

Success, especially after the changes we have made, is not going to happen overnight. You don't click your fingers and hey frickin' presto. We've also undergone quite a bit of bad luck too.

Why don't we wait to see how things pan out and get behind the team? Anything else is purely divisive. The only other alternative is that there is a desire to see us fail, be proven right to satisfy an ego. I know who I'd rather stand next to and support the team with, and no doubt, I will be stood/sat next to around 1000 people on Saturday at Bristol who think very similarly to me......and you know what? I'm going to enjoy it.

I should point to all these fans who are being ultra-negative that you guys are so insightful, I'm sure the club is really grateful for the need to point out the bleeding obvious.

I don't think many are being ultra negative just somewhat amazed that it is revolution and complete upheaval and not evolution from what was a brilliant position only three short months ago.

why oh why rip it apart to bring in a new model, style, staff and all that goes with it after our best ever season for many if not most of us. including mb him himself.

whilst MB is onto something with his math model and management methodology, why not ease it in over two or three years?

i know and appreciate he is a gambler and has enough money to return to the roulette wheel if this project fails - but he is also a business man too.

this way of doing things is like putting all the hard work and investment on a few numbers on the wheel of fortune.

time will tell - but i do think he could have taken things just a tad slower.

As far as I can make out it has been introduced over the last year rather than MB clicking his fingers and shouting 'all change now please'. Jota and Tebar would be evidence of his system being used to identify players a year ago.

Surely this is just phase two of the development of his strategy? We've already been using alot of the techniques employed.

The fact is that Warbs, sadly, didn't buy into it, so there was a need to bring in new staff.

I believe that this season will be a tough one, but one where we will show signs of improvement. It's the next season to two seasons where I think we will make the necessary impact. It's still a country mile away to anything that we've seen in over 60 years.

You drop in the occasional I'm a fan but most of your posts are smug, told you so, hindsight expertise. Give it a rest and if you're as ITK as you would have some believe give us details of what anyone at the club now could and should be doing to ward off unwanted interest for Gray?

Throwing in names like MacDonald and Antonio is far too easy, doesn't make you a star spotter in anyone's eyes apart from your own. Remind me what is your pedigree and experience in the senior game apart from being privvy to a former legends nickname?

But we have been using this system for the past few years? The only difference I can see is that Warbs did not have a veto over signings, this led to him leaving and the press/media going into a frenzy about Brentford's analytical approach to the game and sourcing prospective new signings.

I don't therefore think it is that different the the model which has achieved our success since MB took over, it is now simply in the media spotlight more.

I would like to comment on PR / media exposure. Sky Sports For example seem to have a bias toward ex-prem clubs, as they're considered 'big clubs ' , albeit the likes of Leeds, Forest, Derby etc. In my eyes are they 'has beens'. Their so called experts are in their comfort zone as they already know many of the players and managers from Premiership campaigns, and their research regarding other clubs is somewhat scant, or in other words downright lazy. Similar comment applies to newspaper journalists, e.g. Rod Liddle of the Times, who I usually like. His predictions for the forthcoming Championship campaign ( written before Moses etc departing) was not good for Brentford as he stated that we had not recruited new players, when at the time of going to press we had signed 8. Poor research Mr Liddle.

This lack of coverage was the same last season with Sky live coverage and the Football League Show featured match heavily leaning towards Derby and Middlesbrough. Yes the last week will enable the media to direct cheap digs at us, but we are Brentford, and this is the best time ever to be a fan (I've been so since 1969 ). The media are dinosaurs, get used to it ! Our best PR is to not let them wind us up, and hope our football will continue to be as good as last season.

I implore fans to stick up for our unique, very special club. Don't boo the players, encourage them, lets get behind the team at Bristol and show the football world that we've arrived !

Its not and the fans are wise enough to that fact whether it be the Head Coach, Player unrest, the pitch, Cup defeat etc etc its dividing the fans and the club needs to move to pull us back together.

The only thing dividing fans is bullshit like this thread.

No they're not, they're using the football manager game! And if you watch AND listen then you'd know that because they tell you they're using the game.

It's embarrassing Sky are even using it, let alone RoyalOakBee promoting it as a Statistical/Mathmatical Model. Does he think Benham and Co are using Football Manager to buy players? rofl

The only example i've seen is the new West Brom striker was being compared to one of the current forwards and he had 1 point extra for composure... Sky were then justifying it as a positive buy for West Brom, I haven't watched it since...

If Talksport and Sky have an anti Brentford agenda then we must be on the right track. I didn't mind when we were plucky little Brentwood, pub on each corner, hand grenade, Trotta's penalty and all that stuff and I rather enjoy listening to ex-jailbird and horse-murderer Micky Quinn or drunk life assurance risks like Brazil having ignorant digs at MB. Their opinions are worthless as are those of some people on this board who appear to rub their hands together with glee when things go wrong.

Saw them do it for Harry Kane v Njie or whatever his name is who Tottenham are looking at. Harry Kane,IIRC, won hands down but they seem to think it was good business

What I would love to see is an online debate with such master football management brains like bluestone / ROB / Beezy Bee with Matthew - set it up nana and sell it pay view lol

It's one thing being rose tinted or D&G but these blokes are trolls

Why is it some supporters almost want us to fail? I am a supporter. Therefore I support the club, especially when there's nothing to suggest that we are falling short... ...I should point to all these fans who are being ultra-negative that you guys are so insightful, I'm sure the club is really grateful for the need to point out the bleeding obvious.

Well said.
I've had the feeling that some who purport to support Brentford want things to go tits up.
I have seen a few others mention it, on the GPG.
It distresses me.
I try to understand their mentality, but I can't.
The only explanation I've come up with is that they are of the same mindset as the ageing pundits employed by Sky TV - they've 'known' how football works, for a long time, but now someone wants to try something different, and they can't get their pea-brains round the idea, so they mock and dismiss it.
Once they've nailed their colours to the mast, they really don't want to be wrong, so continue in the same vein - mocking, dismissing and mocking some more. These people do want us to **** up, cos they're so desperate to be proved right.

Why can't some people just buckle up and enjoy the ride?
Finally getting out of that poxy 3rd division (the right way) was the end of the most stressful couple of seasons I have suffered in my 28 years of following Brentford. The Championship, in comparison, is a right laugh.

We (the supporters) should concentrate our energies on backing whatever 11 players are selected to represent our club. :hat:

I really, really need a smoke...

It wasn't a question of Warbs not "buying into it" he didn't want to be in the position that Marinus is in now when he says he doesn't know who's signing as it's not down to him. I'm not anti Marinus or pro Warbs but let's keep it factual !

A certain poster seems to have gone missing recently. Will we have to wait for an unlucky defeat before he pops up?
