Stan Bowles RIP

Stan Bowles RIP

Stood behind him in the New Road stand one Saturday afternoon as he took a free kick. I watched it as he saw it. We watched it arc with precision into the right hand top corner of the goal, absolutely brilliant .
What a player, RIP Stan.

Stan Bowles RIP

My father used to go to Brentford one week and QPR the next to watch bowles...wonder if any other bees of that era did the same

Stan Bowles RIP

Very sad news. Started watching the Bees in the early 80s and Stan even during his latter end of his career was a superb footballer. I could be wrong but I am sure we held a testimonial match for him (happy to be corrected).

RIP Stan.
Yep v qpr about 87 …3-2 them and nearly 8k there…they only expected half that too? RIP Stan…great entertainer and character ????

Stan Bowles RIP

Saw him quite a few times for Brentford. Remember one week we were in the Braemar Rd forecourt pre match and saw Stan there chatting to some people. It was about 20 minutes before ko. Said to my brother “bugger, Stan’s not playing”.
15 minutes later he trotted out onto the pitch fully kitted up. A brilliant footballer and complete maverick. RIP Stanley!

Didn't he live and had a house in Braemar Road?

Stan Bowles RIP

IIRC it didn't as no-one knew he was even signed, let alone due to play
I can remember very vividly reading in the press we’d signed him before the Burnley game and thinking wow, bloody wow we’ve actually signed Stan Bowles. Worth the entrance fee alone, a superb talent even in the twilight of his career. RIP Stan, so fondly remembered by all Bees fans who had the privilege to watch him in the famous red and white stripes

Stan Bowles RIP

RIP Stan

He had his flaws but with the ball at his feet he was a real genius. He joined us at the end of his career but his talent still lit up Griffin Park in his unique way.

Stan Bowles RIP

RIP Stan. Up until the present day, you were part of the most entertaining team to watch. If Tony Mahoney hadn't broken his leg in the FA Cup replay V Swindon, who knows how far that team could have gone.

Thank you for the wonderful memories.

Attendance 8k

Stan Bowles RIP

Brilliant story I read/heard somewhere about when he lived in Braemar Road, he had some mates round for dinner and whilst they were eating, the bailiffs turned up and took the table away!! ??
Must be made up as I understand that Baliffs can't take your dining table! That and the chairs.

Stan Bowles RIP

Very very sad news.

Roberts - Kamara - Hurlock - Bowles was some midfield.

I think he said that after the other lot, Brentford was the next most enjoyable time of his career.

I had the pleasure of talking to him in the Coach and Horses in Isleworth during the Martin Allen era. He was a really humble guy and good company - he spoke highly of the club and as an ex-pro he was happy to talk football on the same level as an ignorant fan like me - no arrogance whatsoever.

A genius of a footballer, without any doubt, and from my brief experience, a good person too who didn’t take himself the slightest bit seriously.

RIP

I think Gerry Francis was there at the time.
He said it was " just another day in the Bowles house".

Stan Bowles RIP

That’s my recollection and when part of Braemar caught fire it was Mrs Bowles who called the fire brigade. Urban myth or fact??
The urban myth is some of the players were playing cards, after a game in the stadium and the fire started soon after they left.
Probably untrue?

RIP Stanley
Fantastic football, good tile salesman, excellent entertainer....

Stan Bowles RIP

Used to see him at White City dogs, with a mate who used to play for Wimbledon, think him name was Parsons, and also his so called mates asking him what do you know then Stan.

Not sure what you are gaining out of bringing this up with a question mark at the end - never heard this urban myth and not appropriate for this thread.

Nonsense, it's for memories.

I believe after QPR he played more matches for us than any other team.

Stan Bowles RIP
