"Wright not left out because he was sh*t" shocker

Wright signed a deal at Brentford last season, but a clause in his contract, which meant extra financial outlay for the Bees following a certain number of appearances, saw the centre-back left out in the cold.

The player, though, admits he was willing to waive such rights in order to stay in the side. “I just wanted to play,” he said.

“I had things in my contract, for games and the like, but I said ‘if that’s why I’m not playing then take it out’.

Interesting. Good on AS for thinking about the budget altho seems a stupid deal for both parties if we can't afford to play him. At least it kept him out the side so well done BFC. we should put this "we're skint, f*** off mate" clause in every rubbish player we sign's contract! :dj:

Stephen Wright

The club could afford to play him, no player since BU has taken the majority shareholding has not been played due to payment clauses in his contract. I won't divulge any players' personal details but if you weren't getting in your previous team first eleven you wouldn't say to the press it was because of your form, or lack of, would you?

and how many times have we complained when others have done it to us, one P. Smith springs to mind

Good to see that the club were paying him what he was worth then. :)

Couldn't he have said that the manager never spoke to him after they had a slight disagreement, like the otthers?

At no time was Stephen Wright not selected because of financial constraints or concerns. If this was suggested to him by his then team manager as the reason for not picking him then it was not known to me.

We do not enter into 'stupid deals' (as you put it) where we sign players that we find we cannot afford to play......indeed the playing budget was underspent last season.

Would that be on a account of unclaimed goal scoring bonuses?:fishing::idea:

Hello Mr abee . Could you please tell me something? (Only if you don't mind like .) Is it true that a rule is in place in our division where a wage bill (and therefore by definition the playing budget) must be limited to a certain percentage of a club's turnover? And if so, what is that percentage?

Love and hugs,

Mazz x

For 2011-12 the salary cap is 75% of relevant turnover
For 2012-13 the salary cap is 65% of relevant turnover
For 2013-14 and onwards the salary cap is 60% of relevant turnover.

Our return shows an actual of less than 40% if the salary cap had been in force for 2010-11 and a forecast of around the same for 2011-12.

I haven't seen the returns for the other League One clubs but I shall be surprised if any club has a lower SCM percentage than Brentford.

Good info abee - many thanks for your answer :sorted:.

Who else did Nicky Forster have a disagreement with? Wright was in the side up until the Dagenham game and Scott's departure.

See, to the best of my knowledge we've not exactly spent a fortune on transfer fees which is why I don't get this 'Manchester City of the lower leagues' tag that we seem to have adopted. Supporters (and particularly those of other clubs) seem to think we're paying players a fortune to come and play here and have some sort of mega-budget. But the rules alone prove that this simply can't be the case .

In the seasons 2008-11 we paid transfer fees (in some cases quite substantial) for Woodman, Spillane, Diagouraga, Balkestein, Hudson, Weston, (Nicky) Adams, Alexander, Elder, Taylor and MacDonald. The costs were partly offset by fees received for Nicky Adams, Elder and Dickson. However there was a substantial net out on the transfer dealings over these two seasons.

Uwe Rosler has spent not one penny on transfer fees preferring instead to concentrate his efforts on out of contract players who he had identified and marked down on his 'wish list' i.e. Logan, Eger, Douglas, Forrester, Grella and Donaldson. Mark Warburton was also very closely involved in the researching of these players and instrumental in persuading and encouraging at least one (Harry Forrester) to sign. The contracted players brought in during the summer were reinforced by the signing of McGinn for the season and the loan arrivals of Thompson, Llera, Blair Adams and now Clarkson. In addition to the mentioned players we have extended the contracts of Legge and Moore both with costs applicable to and charged to this seasons budget.

We do not pay extravagant wages for League One but the budget is managed to provide a balance between recruiting contracted players, re-inforcing the squad with loans either long term or currently short term to fill gaps caused by injuries and the managed extending of contracts.

My view is that our playing budget is probably around 8th - 11th in the League One table but because of the quality of the players that Uwe and Mark Warburton have attracted to Brentford it is assumed by other clubs that we have thrown a lot more monies at the budget for this season. I can only repeat that the monies available to Uwe to spend on the playiing budget is exactly the same as that for season 2010-11.

Right . There also seems to be a popular opinion that Mr B has ploughed in far more than the £1M per year for 5 years that was arranged. That 'far more', is commonly believed by many to be going on a massive playing budget which, as you've explained (and indeed as the rules dictate), isn't the case. I'm curious therefore to know if A) Mr B is actually ploughing in more than originally arranged and B) if so, what are these extra funds for? But call me a nosey old git if you like :fishing:.

I think abee explained in another thread that MB has ploughed significantly more than £1m per year into the club, can't remember the figure but it was a lot! However this is going into various areas of the club, development squad etc, but the playing budget remains the same as last year.

This is a problem - when a thread goes off topic and in to a chat with abee. The info gets spead right across the GPG and is easily missed. Maybe there should be a dedicated thread for asking him stuff? But then that might be a bit of a rod for his back?.

I can't remember what thread it was in but it was interesting!

I reckon abee probably prefers to dip in and out when he feels appropriate.

Is it correct that there are no sanctions this year? So big spending clubs could do a "sh*t or bust" in a bid to get to the Championship this year?

Stephen Wright

Does all sound pretty sensible use of a budget.

Wright may be just stretching the truth. He may have been in line for an extra £50 if he played another game and he has convinced himself that's why he was left out and not due to performance issues or the fact he was so ugly he made lee luscombe look like brad pitt.

Stephen Wright

He's probably still bitter about getting released by Coventry after being appointed captain.

I would happily have paid £50 a week to keep him out of the squad after Dagenham. I am literally stunned he is still in professional football after that shambolic performance.

To be fair to him, he was excellent at Southampton. O'Connor and Spillane were better options for us last season at right-back though.

The bad outweighed the good, and Dagenham was a truly horrific performance although that could be said of almost everyone that night. Thank god those days are behind us.

He became a winners medal?

The FA Trophy Sponsored by Pixar Films Presents Toy Story 4?

We were there and he played a very solid game. Rarely, if ever, beaten and always looking to go forward.

Deserved his 120 minutes of glory!
