Steve Claridge Again...?

Steve Claridge Again...?

steve claridge doesn't need to go from box to box

just to make a big nuisance of himself
in the oppositions penalty area

he's brave and he hates losing
and his expertise as a striker will surely help the
likes of harrold and rhodes

Steve Claridge Again...?

Anyone got one of those career / history websites where we can see what Claridge has been doing recently?

Steve Claridge Again...?

What a dreadful signing. What does he add to Rankin and Burton? Even in his heyday, 10 years ago, Claridge was only good enough for Leicester and Birmingham in the old second division.

He's a lot older and a lot, lot slower now. He can't replace May as a target man, and Harrold has been deemed not good enough with May around. Or is it a sign that MA is fed up with watching Rankin miss all the time?

And where's the money coming from? Signed for the rest of the season, yet we let go a young talent like Pacquette because we can't afford him. Why is MA constrained by his budget only some of the time? Is Claridge paying us?

I think this signing makes us a laughing stock; it's an embarrassment. It's not 1 April is it? MA's weekly wind-up after Eddie's 'signing'?

I can still remember Claridge being booked when playing for Cambridge against us for not looking like a footballer. That was before he and his teammates got into a punch up over some poor defending.

Rubbish

The following is quoted from skysports...

As for Claridge, Brentford boss Martin Allen denied a deal has been struck with the 38-year-old.

"Steve has not signed for us," he protested. "I've no idea where that story came from.

"It's news to me."

Has anyone else pointed out that it's on the OS now?

Not pleased then, Shirley? If you look at the link in Boro Bee's posting after yours, and see that between 2000 and 2003, when he played for Millwall (a division above us), he scored 37 goals in 108 appearances. I think that that holds up well against anyone else that we currently have at the club. Want to have a rethink? At least give him a chance (maybe even a couple of games?)

Did I say it wasn't good news? I am delighted that we can attract a player of that calibre to Brentford.

I just asked a question. If you think that is in any way similar to Caeser then I suggest you go back to your Shakespeare lol

Thought so ! Great move. More competition up front. Good pro, great influence on the other players. Who will play, SC and Burton ? What about Ben May ?

We are beginning to look like we have a serious squad with a great blend of experience, youth, pace, skill and determination.

BUT SC is cup tied as he played for Weymouth in the Qualifying rounds.

I agree that the question this raises is what happens to Ben May???? I can't imagine MA bringing Claridge in until the end of the season just to warm the bench & fully expect him to be first choice together with Deon starting Saturday.
By my reckoning, Ben May's 1 month loan spell expires before the Luton Cup game. Claridge is cup-tied, but would we extend Ben Mays' loan spell on the basis of his starting against Luton...I can't see it. In spite of the extra revenue from the Cup, I still think we will be on a one in - one out situation in terms of the squad, particularly when we are sniffing about for John Spicer from Arsenal, currently on loan at Bournemouth

This move for Claridge says to me that Ben May has not done quite enough to justify a loan extension / or even a permanent move & that he will return from whence he came when his loan expires at the end of Dec

Ignoring all your other ill-informed comments, how exactly do you come to this conclusion?

Took a day's holiday to receive a call this afternoon that we have signed Steve Claridge - I'm delighted. Competition, profile and fitness. Things are hotting up in the squad and when Fitz, Dobbo, Hutch and Hunty are match fit, people will be looking over their shoulders and what a sixteen we will have on matchdays. A bold move and one that should hopefully pay off.

So if Claridge was good enough in the old second division, can you remind me which one we play in at the moment????!!!!

This guy is a very well respected professional. He has more idea of how to play the game than our other strikers.Perhaps..bar (Burton!)

Alright he's been around the block a bit but who cares if he takes us up? You never know what sort of inspiration he might be.He has the same bottle and fight that MA has and this is the sort of signing most clubs at our level will look on at with envy! Well done MA for bringing in more quality!

Lets show the same commitment hes always shown - give him a chance and ROAR OUR HEROES to promotion. Come on Stevie boy knock those sitters in that Isiah has been missing!

As regards to pacquette. He must of only touched the ball twice at Hull. Hes so good that no-one else wants him!

RED ARMY.

Steve Claridge Again...?

I would be disappointed if we let Ben May go. In the few games he has played he has provided a much improved attacking presence. He is also tall - and therefore more likely to take advantage of the quality crosses provided by Salako, Frampton, Kev and Tabby. He is also young, fit and strong and holds the ball up well to bring the runners such as Burton, Salako, Rhodes and Tabby into play.

Could we not send Harrold out on loan to develop his game further at a slightly lower level (and to balance the salaries). He could then return for next season to contend for a place in the starting line-up.

Steve Claridge Again...?

I'm pretty certain he is cup-tied. I think he was on the radio when the draw was made. I think Brighton play Millwall and he was disappointed he couldn't play.

Steve Claridge Again...?

I think Harrold will go out on loan at some stage to get him regular football..

Not to far for Steve Claridge to go and do his other jobs for Sky sports during his free time as well.

Brighton are away to Spurs, I believe Brighton played Millwall at the den last weekend with Millwall winning 2-0.

In Martin we trust!

He hasn't let us down so far!

Some of the posts on this thread are beyond contempt!

he must have fancied a trip to White Hart Lane then - still think he's cup tied though

Steve Claridge Again...?

If it works it will bee a good move by MA..Steve has plenty of exprience and is always on Sky...more good PR for the Bees...well done ..MA

Steve Claridge Again...?

Our main problem this season has been putting the ball in the net,Steve Claridge has a proven record as a regular goal scorer.OK he is now getting to the end of his playing career but may just be what Brentford require for the rest of this season.Lets give him a go and see, with Salako and perhaps Rhodes getting in some good crosses he could be the player to get on the end of a few and slot them home.

Steve Claridge Again...?

I think its a good signing.
I know his recent record isnt the best- but i believe younger players will look to him rather than feel let down by possibly being put down the pecking order again.
He has vast experience, is strong and has a good shot. I just wonder where MA will play him and with who?

If you had the choice of McCammon (given that he was available for loan) or Claridge who would you want............I know were my money would go. :sorted:

PS for all the doubters about his age, Salako is one of the oldest players in our team, but probably one of the fitest :D

Has he signed yet? His medical was supposed to be at 9.30 and there is nothing on the OS yet.

He's probably late for the medical !!

Claridge has a reputation for not being the best timekeeper or the tidiest person around. One thing is for sure with the strict rules within the club, his wallet will be a lot more empty for all those fines he will have to pay.

Crackin signing just what we need. Players go on a lot older these days coz their fit! I'd like to see Martin try and keep him out of the bar though!

Steve is welcome to try a selcetive Malt with me and the boyz any night. But NOT before kick off!!!!! :nono:

You know that TV money..............

Steve Claridge Again...?

So we're not going to extend May's loan if the opportunity exists? Despite his actually-quite-good performances to date?

Do you know that, or is that your speculation?

longdistancebee said:
From the money we get by stopping paying for May and Harrold.

Steve Claridge Again...?

As much as I am excited by the signing, is this a last ditch gamble on promotion and the board not being able to say 'No' to anything Martin Allen asks for?

I thought we were mean't to be broke and every penny we are raising was to save the club from financial ruin?

It all F**king worries me to be honest...
