Steve Coppell

I've noticed that here and there on this site people have posted how Steve Coppell might make a good manager. Maybe it's worth mentioning now that I sat next to him in Braemar Rd at the Swansea game.

Seeing as I heard him say he still lives in Purley, it was a bit of a way to come to see a match...

There's no smoke without fire and all that. More conspiracy theories below, please!

And the Millwall management duo were at last night's game. Maybe they weren't looking at a player, but considering an offer from Ron to take over?

Rons decided to give up his hobby and has decided to give the managers job to a new man. The last I heard was that Gary Hargraves has been put in charge of employing a new man. Apparently to boost attendences hes going to give the job to the person he goes through the turnstiles as the 50,000 person this season. So we might have a new manger by May?!

Can't see it being Coppell should Ron decide a change is needed, don't think they parted on best of terms when Ron left Palace.

Steve Coppell?

Top player, but as a manager, no thanks. Must be one of the most boring and negative managers of recent years. Ranks on the 'Z' list of managers alongside Howard Wilkinson, John Beck, Bryan Robson, Mark McGhee and that Southampton bloke who dropped Le Tiss when he was in his prime.

There's a question. Who's the worst manager of recent years? (Apart from Dave Webb that is)

I think Coppell would be good at Griffin Park.

He discovered some top talents whilst at Palace. Bright, Wright, Thomas etc - you have to admit that these were good players at Palace in their heyday. Not forgetting Nigel Martyn.

He was my Manager of the Year last season - football is not always about winning, so why Coppell didn't get the award ahead of Ferguson, sorry Ferguscub, I'll never know.

Not that I have anything much to add to this discussion...but Steve Coppell was in the Braemar Road again on Saturday.

I would have thought that if a new manager was to be appointed it would be an internal promotion.

I am not sure how Lewington would feel about being passed over.
